Mary Buzzard
McLoud resident Mary Buzzard, 75, died Friday, Jan. 12, at her home.
Mary was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Shawnee to Guy H. and Elizabeth (Anderson)
Sandel.
She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1949. She attended Oklahoma Baptist
University and The University of Oklahoma.
On Sept. 7, 1951, she married Richard E. Buzzard.
Mary was a homemaker, wife and mother. She worked at Sylvania in the early 1950s
until her husband returned from military service in Korea and Japan. She was a
bookkeeper for her husband's auto repair business and her parents' produce
business.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of McLoud, and the Bykota Sunday School
Class for 51 years and the church choir.
Mary enjoyed activities and traveling with her family, attending events of her
grandchildren, the fellowship of her Sunday School Class, sewing, cooking,
crafts and the out-of-doors.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Kathy Jane Buzzard.
Survivors include her husband, Richard of the home; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Suzanne and Ben Frits of Stillwater, Kay and Terry Rials of
Newalla; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kathy Buzzard of McLoud and Guy
and Kathy Jo Buzzard of Grapevine, Texas; four grandchildren, Hunter Rials,
Braydon Buzzard, and Addyson and Anna Buzzard; sister, Bettie Hall of Shawnee;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Jack Bird of McLoud and Bob and
Barbara Buzzard of Shawnee; uncle and aunt, Bert and Wanda Lane of Shawnee; and
many beloved nieces and nephews.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of McLoud with the
Rev. Ernest Graham and the Rev. Bill Derrick officiating. Burial will follow at
Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.

Binnie Coley
Yukon resident Binnie Coley, 70, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, at her home.
She was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Webb City, Mo., and had been living in Yukon the
past three years. She moved here from Springdale, Ark. Binnie had lived in the
Tecumseh area and worked in Shawnee as a RN nurse for 20 years before going to
work at City Hall in Tecumseh for several years. Upon retirement she moved to
Springdale.
Binnie was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Yukon. She enjoyed cooking and
being with her family. The delight of her life was her granddaughter, Kaci.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister and a grandson,
Kody Clark.
Survivors include her daughter, Dana Clark and husband, Ken, of Mustang; sister,
Sue Northup and husband, Charles, of Springdale, Ark.; granddaughter, Kaci
Rosann Clark; two step-grandsons; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church with burial following in
Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Shawnee under the direction of Smith &
Turner Mortuary, Yukon.

Former resident of Seminole County Wallace B. Harjo, 47, died Thursday, Jan. 4,
in Broward County Florida.
Wake service was held Monday, Jan. 15, at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
He will be taken to the Strother Community Center at 4 p.m. today for an all
night service.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Strother Indian Community
Center in the Strother Community, Northeast of Seminole, with Mike Harjo and
Dorsey Nero officiating.

John Dean Richardson

Longtime Seminole resident and beloved oilman John Dean
Richardson passed away on Monday, Jan. 15, at the age of 77.
He was born on Jan. 8, 1930, in Waurika, Okla., to Claude and Hazel (Thompson)
Richardson.
In 1976 he married Karen Posey Richardson in Fort Smith, Ark.
John was a graduate of Waurika High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force
where he was stationed in Bermuda for four years as a sergeant and a Hurricane
Hunter. John moved to Seminole from Duncan, Okla., where he retired from
Halliburton Services. In June of 1974, John started working in this area for W.H.
Kopezynski of Ada as a company man for his oil production company, Texhoma Oil
and Gas. In 1978 John started working for Tommy Eeds of Seminole at his company,
Seminole Acid. Shortly afterwards John and Tommy formed Apollo Oil Tools. In
1981 John bought Apollo Oil Tools from Tommy and continues to operate in Letha,
Okla., with his son, Matt Cone, and son-in-law, Mike Baxter.
John was a member of the Harvey Road Baptist Church, Seminole Elks Lodge and a
former Maud city council member where he lived in Maud for 23 years, prior to
moving to Seminole eight years ago.
John loved playing poker, buying and selling oilfield equipment and spending
quality time with his family and especially his grandkids.
His parents preceded him in death.
John is survived by his loving wife, Karen Richardson of the home; three sons
and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kelly Richardson of Plano, Texas, Dusty and Tammy
Gaff of Jett, Okla., and Matt and Dutchess Cone of Wewoka; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Shawn and Mike Baxter of Seminole and Vicki and Sam Brimer of
Ardmore; four sisters, Opal Ward of Saginaw, Texas, Mildred Porter of Clute,
Texas, Helen Edwards of Waurika, and Mary and husband Ron Penny of Duncan; nine
grandchildren, Amy Brimer, Josh Brimer, Jennifer Richardson, Jason Richardson,
Dakota Gaff, Cheyanne Gaff, Chris Richardson, Collin Cone, and Caleb Cone; as
well as a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today for visitation at
the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Wade
Robertson officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Waurika Cemetery,
Waurika.
Pallbearers will be Tim Edwards, Randy Edwards, Robby Whitefield, Tommy King,
David Brown and Mark Childress.
Honorary bearers will be Ralph Jones, Wink Kopezynski, Nick Johnson, Ronnie
Conner, Kenneth Stalnaker, Larry Clements and Jessy Pierce.

Violet Mae Fruit

Shawnee resident Violet Mae Fruit, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 13,
in a local nursing home.
She was born Nov. 6, 1915, in Coalgate, Okla., to George Whit Wyatt and Pearl
Ellen (Spangler) Wyatt.
She attended and graduated from Shawnee High School with the class of 1934.
On Feb. 1, 1942, she married Lawrence David Fruit in Shawnee. He passed away in
1991.
Violet was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She
worked in the church nursery for 49 years. She also taught Sunday School for
toddlers and served as the Benevolence Chairman. She was named Senior Woman of
the Year in 2000.
Violet came to know the Lord at an early age and served Him faithfully. She
loved children and touched many lives as she worked in the church nursery and
kept children in her home. She was a special Christian wife, mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother and a friend to many.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers; two sisters; two infant
daughters; and a son-in-law, Steven Weeks.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Richard Geyer of
Shawnee, Vinita and Tommy Penuel of Shawnee; grandchildren, Brian and Laura
Weeks of Norman, Christina and Mark Austin of Seminole, Jill Penuel of Norman,
Joel and Josh Penuel of Shawnee; great-grandchildren, Patrick and Steven Austin
of Seminole and Jacen Weeks of Norman; brother-in-law, Bob Nelson of Shawnee;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Adams
and Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the
direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Robert Lee "Bob" McCreery

Robert Lee "Bob" McCreery, 93, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, in
Tulsa.
He was born Feb. 3, 1913, in Elgin, Texas, to Ray and Oma (Potts) McCreery.
He lived in Texas until he was 5 years of age. His parents then moved to Tulsa
where Bob atteneded several elementary schools and graduated from Central High
School in 1931. In 1936 Bob graduated from OSU as an electrical engineer.
He was a lifelong memember of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Bob worked for P.S.O for two years before moving to New York and working for
General Electric. In 1941 he moved to Washington D.C. where he worked for the
Navy as a civilian. As a Naval representative, he witnessed the atomic bomb
tests on Bikini Atoll in 1945. After 10 years with the Navy he returned to New
York and was a representative for Ideal Electric and EBASCO Engineering.
Bob loved New York but returned to Oklahoma when his father became ill. After
his father's death, Bob operated the family lumber company in Sand Springs and
his own company, McCreery Investments. During this period he consulted for
EBASCO. He spent two years in Spain and made several trips to Japan.
Bob enjoyed his work and was active until Parkinson's and cancer took his life.
He is survived by his wife Norma (Haun); cousins, Buford and Anne Potts of
Tomball, Texas, and Maida Draker of Austin, Texas.
Bequests may be direct to the Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland, 7800 Foster
St., Overland Park, Kan. 66204-2955.
Visitation is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Moore's
Eastlawn Chapel.
Service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Moore's Eastlawn Chapel with
burial at 4 p.m. at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.

Carolyn Jean Bowden (Bronson)

Carolyn Jean Bowden (Bronson) 42, passed away Sun. Jan. 14, at a
local hospital.
She was born in Torrence, Calif. Oct. 10, 1964. She moved to Oklahoma in 1976.
Carolyn attended and graduated from Strothers High School.
Carolyn enjoyed basketball and music.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Bowden Sr.
Survivors include her son, Dillon Bronson of Meeker; her mother, Ella Mae Bowden
of Shawnee; one sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and Billy Wolfe of Eufala, and
three brothers and sisters-in-law Eddie and Marie Bowden of Shawnee, Randy and
Angie Bowden of Shawnee, Gary and Deresa Claybrook of Moore, and many aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Shawnee, Okla. with the
Rev. Perry Nelson officiating. Burial will take place at Pottawatomi Cemetery.

Betty Jo Cranford
Shawnee resident Betty Jo (Welch) Cranford, 73, died of natural
causes Saturday, Jan. 13, at Unity Health Care.
She was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Shawnee to Leonard Welch and Florence (Miles)
Welch.
On Oct. 31, 1949, she married Floyd Cranford. They enjoyed 57 wonderful years of
marriage.
Betty was a homemaker. She enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, deer hunting,
reading her Bible and going to church. She attended Shawnee Beauty College.
She was a longtime member of Evangelistic Center Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Leonard and Florence Welch; a sister,
Delores Whitecotton; a great-grandson, Zackery Deathridge; and a
great-granddaughter, Heaven Noel Phillips.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Cranford of the home; daughter and
son-in-law, Sherrie and Larry McDaniels; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sharon
Cranford; five grandchildren, Melanie Deathridge, Crystal Cranford, Amber
Rohrick and husband Steve, David Phillips and wife Elizabeth, Jolyn Klaus and
husband Roger; 11 great-grandchildren, Derrick Deathridge, Kirstie and Kalah
Gilmore, Lacey and Ashton Rohrick, Dalton Phillips, Ethan, Trae, Landon and
Lauren Phillips and Trace McDaniels; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ruby D. Davis

Former Shawnee resident Ruby D. Davis, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 14,
at Edmond Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Russellville, Ark., to Martin Andrew Chilton and
Mary Elizabeth (Sims).
Ruby came to Oklahoma at the age of two in a covered wagon. She lived on the
family farm near Wewoka before moving to Shawnee.
She attended Shawnee High School and graduated from nursing school at City
Hospital in Shawnee.
Ruby worked at Baxter Hospital, then at A.C.& H. as a surgical nurse for more
than 20 years and later at Shawnee Regional Hospital.
She was married Aug. 15, 1936, to J.D. Davis. They were married more than 61
years before his death.
Ruby attended Central Church of Christ and Northridge Church of Christ in
Shawnee. After retirement she enjoyed cooking meals for others and visiting with
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters, Jessie,
Jewell and Mary
Survivors include one son, Don Q. Davis and wife, Linda, of Georgetown, Texas;
one daughter, Marlene D. Neal and husband, Victor, of Edmond; four
grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis, Amy Ottmers and husband, Daryl, Joel Baker and
wife, Sarah, and Leah Baker; five great-grandchildren, Kara, Madisyn, Liam,
Kaelyn and Ryan; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Viewing will be today and Thursday.
The family will be at Walker Funeral Service from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday
to receive friends.

Darrell Richard McBride

Edmond resident Darrell Richard McBride, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, in Edmond.
On July 20, 1933, he was born in Colby, Kan. to Carl Admir and Margaret Delores
(McGuire) McBride.
Darrell grew up in Nebraska and later moved to Missouri. He came to Oklahoma
following his military service. He had lived in Edmond for the past 40 years.
On March 27, 1966, he married Darlene Northcutt in Durant.
Darrell served for four years (from 1952 to 1956) in the U.S. Air Force. He
retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1995 after 34 years of service. He was an
avid fan of OU Football and enjoyed making bird houses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill McBride and Keith
McBride; and a brother-in-law, Johnny Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene McBride of the home; six children and their
spouses, Dalina and David Reynolds of El Reno, Vicky and Joe Webster of Moore,
Leland and Heidi Gale of Kansas, Teresa and Tim Kennemer of Edmond, Cathy and
Rudy Woodard of Louisiana, Cheryl and Steve Wines of Shawnee; ten grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses, Roland and Joan
McBride of Grove, Merrill and Phyllis McBride of Shawnee; one sister, Margie
Harris of Drumright; several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ed McCreary,
pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Moore, officiating. Burial will be at
Brown Cemetery.

E. Gertrue Larch-Miller

Shawnee resident E. Gertrue Larch-Miller, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, at her
home.
She was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Ardmore to Frank and Dollie (McNeely) Thompson.
Gertie moved to Shawnee at a young age and was a graduate of Shawnee High School
class of 1940.
She had worked in the office of the Aldridge Hotel and during World War II she
supported the war effort by moving to California to work as a bookkeeper in the
shipyards.
Upon returning to Shawnee, she married Burke Joseph Larch-Miller on Feb. 2,
1947.
She was a longtime employee of Commercial Brick Corporation. Gertie was an
active member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She also was a member of Beta
Sigma Phi Sorority and the Salvation Army Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Larch-Miller Jr; her parents,
Frank and Dollie Thompson; sister, Geraldine Dutton, and a newphew, Russell
Dutton.
Survivors include her son, Mark Larch-Miller of Shawnee; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Cheryl and William Hudson of Midwest City and Linda and William
Garwood of Herndon, Va.; two grandchildren, Shelby and her husband Josh Lane of
Midwest City and Wesley Hudson of Midwest City; step-grandchild, William Hudson
II of Lawton; one great-grandchild, Gunner Lane of Midwest City; one brother,
C.L. Thompson and his wife Irene of Rockford, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Denise
Rooker and Frank Dutton of Shawnee, Mike Larch-Miller of San Diego, Calif., Inis

Meeker resident Thelma Mae (Wakolee) Wilcox, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, at her
home.
She was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Meeker to Harry Eugene and Lillian Mae (Windemaker)
Wakolee.
On May 27, 1950, she married Edward John Wilcox.
Thelma was a homemaker and a member of the Sac & Fox Nation.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ed Wilcox in 2005; two
sisters, Donna Green and Leona Wakolee; and two brothers, Delbert Wakolee and
Gary Wakolee.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Arletta and Bruce Gallaway of
Meeker; two grandsons, Jason Gallaway and Jeffrey Gallaway, both of Meeker; one
brother, Lowell Wakolee; six sisters, Freda West, Charlotte Lane, Esther
Armitage, Sue Bohannon, Lois Wahington and Irene McClellan.

Longtime Meeker resident Edith Armitage, 90, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16, in
Meeker, Okla.
She was born on Aug. 28, 1916 in Payson, Okla., to Grover and Eula (Nicely)
Cartwright.
She worked many years as a housekeeper and nanny. Edith was of the Baptist
faith.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, James and Helen Armitage of
Meeker, Bobby and Norma Armitage of Meeker; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and
Lucille Nicely of Missoula, Mont.; sister Mable Woody of Chandler; six
grandchildren; Tiffany and Robert Gear, Scott Armitage, Cherly Thomas, Terri
Kiker and David Armitage; 14 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren,
and many other realatives and friends.

Jon Michael Sullivan
Richardson, Texas, resident Jon Michael Sullivan, 24, died Monday, Jan. 15, in
Richardson.
He was born Sept. 5, 1982, in Plano, Texas, to Terry D. and Krisandra "Sandy" (Rozas)
Sullivan.
Jon was preceded in death by his grandmother, J. Noretta Sullivan.
Survivors include his parents of the home; one brother, Kyle William Sullivan,
stationed in Yuma, Ariz.; grandparents, Don E. Sullivan of Shawnee, Joe and
Shirley Rozas of Porter, Texas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Earl Martin Drury
Earl Martin Drury departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Oklahoma City, at
the age of 66.
Earl was born Dec. 29, 1940, in Bartlesville to Linville Bartlett and Irma
Francis (Tull) Drury.
He lived in Prague most of his life and graduated from Prague High School with
the Class of 1959. He was a sales representative for Shepard Oil Company, a
member of the Elks Lodge in Shawnee and a member of the OOMPA.
On April 2, 1960, he married Linda K. Friend in Prague.

Edgar L. Kneisel, 84, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, in Santa Rosa, Calif.
He was born March 16, 1922, in Seminole County, Okla.
Mr. Kneisel served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
Sixty-four years ago he married Mary K. Reeder. He worked for Chevron refinery
for 32 years. They moved to Calistoga, Calif., in 1988.
Edgar was preceded in death by a brother, Q. George Kneisel.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Calistoga; four daughters, Gwen Aylor and
her husband, Jerry, of Oklahoma City, Linda Nichols and her husband, David, of
Calistoga, Calif., Winona Ford and her husband, Chuck, of Spring, Texas, Marsha
Derrer and her husband, Michael, of El Cerrito, Calif.; son, Greg Kneisel and
his wife, Marlene, of Grey Eagle, Calif.; a brother, the Reverend and Mrs.
Harvey Kneisel of Pearland, Texas; two nephews, Johnny and Michael Kneisel, both
of Shawnee; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Service will be noon today at Inspiration Chapel & Napa Valley Memorial Park,

Former Seminole resident Leah Ann Larney Presley, 49, died Wednesday, Jan. 17,
at her home in Buffalo, Mo.
She was born Dec. 3, 1957, in Seminole to Alex Larney Sr. and Balerine (Lasley).
She was a home health care provider and a member of the Seminole Tribe. Leah was
baptized in the Methodist Hitchite Church in Seminole.
Preceding her in death were her father and one brother, Alex Larney Jr.
Survivors include her mother, Balerine Lasley of Shawnee; two daughters, Ladina
Larney of Shawnee and Christi Stone of Maud; four sons, Michael Stone of
Springfield, Mo., Joseph Stone of Springfield, Mo., Andrew Stone of Aurora, Mo.,
and Matthew Stone of Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Mary
Harjo of Shawnee, Teresa Larney of Konawa, and Deborah Toney of Shawnee; one

Josie Blythe
Tecumseh resident Josie Blythe, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Tecumseh.
She was born Feb. 7, 1916, in North Dunbar, Okla., to Joseph Edward and Eva
Mahala (Harrell) Payne.
Josie was raised in Eubanks and moved to Asher Christmas 1949. She lived in
Asher until 1995. She then moved back to Antlers in southeastern Oklahoma. The
best part of her life was spent on the farm in Asher with Sam and the kids.
Josie attended Miller and Dunbar schools.
She was married July 1936 in Antlers to Sam Blythe. He preceded her in death
March 1974.
Josie was a homemaker and worked at N&R Feed and Hardware. She was a member of
many home demonstration clubs and garden clubs, and a member of the Asher Senior
Citizens.
She enjoyed playing dominoes and going on cruises and traveling the world. Above
all else, she loved spending most of her time with her husband and children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Anderson Blythe; one son and one
daughter; sisters, Elvie Hollingworth, Cooter Engle, Elsie Payne, Susie Jackson
and Jewel Crump; brothers, Bud Payne, Josh Payne and Joe Edward Payne; two
grandsons, Charles Edward Lamirand Jr., and Bill Blythe; and a
great-granddaughter, Sadie Grace Malone.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Lamirand and her husband, Charles, of
Asher, Betty Simpson of Tecumseh, Geneva Brumley and her husband, Russell, of
Moore; Son, Doyle Blythe and his wife, Vickie, of Antlers, 19 grandchildren and
several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; two
sisters-in-law, Lois Payne of Moyers and Frances Payne of Valiant.
Service will be 10:00 a.m. Today at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with Father
John Norvell, of St. Luke's Episcopal in Ada officiating. Burial will be at

City hospital.
Steven was born April 14, 1974 in Shawnee to Benny and Linda (Garrison) Smith.
In 1993 Steven graduated from Cherryvale High School in Cherryvale, Kan., where
he participated in band and Boys State for two years. He later attended
Independence Community College. He worked as an overnight stocker at Shawnee
Wal-Mart for 5 years

Bettie Imogene Boswell
Shawnee resident Bettie Imogene Boswell, 81, died Friday, Jan.
19. She was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to Lonnie and Margarite
(Springmeyer) Boswell.
Bettie graduated from Shawnee High School in 1944 and attended Seminole Junior
College and later Oklahoma Baptist University. She worked at City Hall for 38
years before retiring in Dec. of 1990. She was a member of Central Church of
Christ, and past President of the Shawnee Business and Professional Women9s
Club. Bettie also enjoyed singing in choirs, painting and Civil War history.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Gonda Boswell.
Survivors include her cousins, Jim Boswell and wife, Artie of Shawnee, Mary
Kathryn McKinnis of Troy, Tenn., Nita Phebus of Martin, Tenn., Dana Kelly of
Martin, Tenn., Dale Rogers of Tiptonville, Tenn., Roger Springmeyer of Missouri;
and good friend, Bertha Ann Young of Shawnee.

Leon McDonald

Life-long Seminole resident Albert Leon McDonald, 84, went to be
with his Lord at the same home from which he was born on Sunday, Jan. 21, after
a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on August 5, 1922, in the Twin Oak Community, north of Seminole, to
parents Martin D. "M.D." McDonald and Osa May (Hill) McDonald. He was the
seventh of eight children.
Leon attended Twin Oak School and then Varnum High School, graduating in 1940.
He went on to join the the Civilian Conservation Corps. He worked in Colorado
where he met his wife, Marie Holm, of Idaho Springs. They married there Dec. 12,
1941. They enjoyed 48 years together until her death in 1990.
Leon entered the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served with the 453rd bomb group,
8th Air Force stationed in Old Buckenham, England. Upon his discharge in 1945 he
was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European Campaign
Medal with eight battle stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He and Marie returned to Seminole after the war and Leon went to work for Gulf
Oil Company and later for Kerr McGee. Leon retired from Kerr McGee in 1984 as a
connection foreman out of the Cushing office.
A faithful member of the Church of Christ, Leon served as a Bible class teacher
and elder in congregations in Cushing and Little. He enjoyed collecting antique
tools. Several articles and photos were published about Leon and his hobby.
Leon married Virginia "Betty" Freed Aug. 10, 1991 in Oklahoma City. Leon and
Betty served on the site council board of the Seminole Senior Center. Last year
they were chosen as the site's Valentine King and Queen. They enjoyed traveling
together; especially their Alaskan cruise.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marie and infant
children Kathy, Jennie, and Richard; four brothers, Roy, Burnard, James and
Hoyt; sister Nola; brothers-in-law, Floyd Willoughby, and Herman Bull; and
sisters-in-law, Lula, Myrtle, Esther, and Norma Lee.
Suvivors include his wife, Betty of the home; his son, Leon Jr. And wife, Ann,
of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Amy and husband, Todd Foxx, of Bettendorf,
Iowa, Clay and wife, Debbie, of Piedmont, Okla., Ryan and wife, Dwan, of Midwest
City; great-grandchildren, Kellen, Garrett and Gannon Foxx, Madison, Mallori and
Mason McDonald; stepson, Jim Freed and his wife, Beverly, of Chickasha;
stepdaughter, Judy Babbit and husband, Ron, of Tulsa; stepgrandchildren, Janet
and husband, Jimmy Strate, Jerry Freed and wife, Carmen, Lori Davis and Tyler
Babbit; great-grandchildren, Justin and Jared Strate, Vail and Vann Freed, Randy
and Christina Davis; brother, Bill McDonald and wife, Edna; sister Lillie
Willoughby all of Seminole; "Uncle Leon" is also survived by many special nieces
and nephews and other friends who will greatly miss him.
Viewing will be 8 a.m. To 8 p.m. Today at Swearingen Funeral Home.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ at Little,
Oklahoma, with Rusty Dawson, Rob Babbit, and Bill McDonald officiating. Burial
will follow at Little Cemetery with military honors.

Agra resident Ferman F. Davis, 73, passed from this life Sunday,
Jan. 21, at his home in Agra.
Ferman was born June 16, 1933 in Agra, Oklahoma to Wayne and Mary Davis.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
On April 19, 1952 he was united in marriage to Patsy Parker at Cushing,
Oklahoma.
Ferman was a self employed dairy farmer. He had been very active in The Church
of the First Born. The church was his life. He loved to fish with his children
and grandchildren. He spent many hours working in his garden. He loved his
Little dog Sophie.
Ferman is survived by his wife, Patsy of the home; two Sons, Jeff Davis and
wife, Darlene and David Davis and wife, Tammy both of Agra; two daughters, Faith
Greenfield and husband, Gene of Shawnee and Dawn Poteet and husband, James Jr.
Of Tryon; one brother, Hubert Davis of Memphis, Tenn; one sister, Bonnie Frazier
of Stillwater; grandchildren, Justin Greenfield of Norman and Brandon Davis of
Agra, Jameson Poteet, Anihtra Watkins, Tim, Casey, Joey, Ashley and Jasmine.

his home after a short battle with cancer.
He was born June 4, 1957, in Shawnee to R.C. Rimer Sr. And Iva Mae Rimer.
On Nov. 19, 2006, he married Cynthia Wilcox.
James was a drywall finisher for VL Fletcher Drywall. He was a member of South
Rock Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed birds, his dog, watching wrestling and
spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Foy and Mattie Rimer.

Phillip was born March 16, 1928, to Jerry and Marie (Jacobs) Johnson in Shawnee.
He married Lois Fern (Moore) on October 6, 1951. She preceded him in death in
2005.
Phillip worked as a brick mason. He enjoyed tinkering with motors, fishing and
spending time with his family; especially his great-grandchildren.
He married Towana (Glaze) on September 6, 2002.
Preceding him in death are his parents and first wife, Lois.
Phillip leaves many loving memories with his family, his wife, Towana "Toni";
his children, Steven Johnson, Diana Kay Markham and husband, Stan, Ronnie Jacobs

Shawnee resident Larry Lee Sullivan, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 23,
at a local hospital.
Larry was born Feb. 9, 1940, in Shawnee to Leo and Dixie (Blackwell) Sullivan.
He graduated from Shawnee High School and later from Phillips University in
Enid.
He retired from insurance sales and was a member of First Christian Church,
Shawnee. Larry enjoyed his beloved dogs, friends, collecting houseplants and
fishing.

George Edgar Buoy

Meeker resident George Edgar Buoy, 68, died Thursday, Jan. 25,
at his home.
He was born March 18, 1938, in Oklahoma City to Rome Edward and Iva Mea (Beatty)
Buoy.
He was married March 7, 1957, in Meeker to Ann Burchette. She preceded him in
death April 12, 2003.
George retired from Tinker Air Force Base where he worked as a machinist for 32
years. He was a former mayor of Meeker, retired volunteer with the Meeker Fire
Department, member of the Masonic Lodge, and member of the First Baptist Church.
He also was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and one brother.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, James and Jan Buoy of Prague, and
Mark E. Buoy of Meeker; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Gerrie Buoy of
Shawnee, and Robert and Melba Buoy of Prague; sisters and brother-in-law Effie
Lou and Gene Walker of Meeker, and Barbara Ford of Shawnee; granchildren, Brian
Allen Buoy, Michelle and John Gomez, Cheyenne and Christopher Stemlow, and
Sherri and Travis Gillespie; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kyla, Madlyn and
McKenze.
Visitation will be unit 4 p.m. Saturday; noon to 8 p.m. Sunday; and 9 a.m. To
noon Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Meeker.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Meeker with the
Rev. Joe Jones and the Rev. Howard Peace officiating. Burial will follow at New

Willie F. Shirey
Macomb resident Willie F. Shirey, 74, died Wednesday Jan. 24, in Macomb.
He was born April 21, 1932, in Tribbey to Alex and Mae (Folks) Shirey. He was
raised in Tribbey ND Macomb but lived most of his life in Macomb.
Willie worked as a ranch hand for Fred Humphrey and Zollie Edgin. He enjoyed
fishing, hunting, cutting wood and spending time with his family. He had a great
sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucille Roe and Annie
Kessinger; two brothers, Clyde Shirey and an infant brother.
Survivors include his sister, Mamie Aber of Shawnee; brother, Monroe Shirey of
Macomb; special friend, Ella O'Dell; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other
family members.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lakeview Church of Christ with Steve
Mills and Ben Glover, minister of Lakeview Church of Christ, officiating. Burial
will be at Prairie View Cemetery.

Dorothy Deem

Shawnee resident Dorothy Deem, 100, passed away Thursday, Jan.
25, in Shawnee.
She was born Oct. 29, 1906 in Moline, Ill., to Harry and Mable Dickinson.
Dorothy graduated from Moline High School in 1925 and then attended the Villa De
Chantal School for Girls. From there she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., and
attended Miss Fulmer9s Primary Training School. She then taught kindergarten in
Los Angeles for one year and then in Rock Island, Ill., for another year. While
visiting Galva, Ill., she met Adam Charles Deem. They were married Oct. 19,
1930, in Galva. The couple moved to Oklahoma in 1932. In 1947 they opened the
second Dairy Queen in the state; one of the first 15 in the United States. While
working at the Dairy Queen she was instrumental in starting the Alpha Mothers
Club and was a charter member of the Chrysantheum Garden Club. She was an active
member of Chapter CI of P.E.O, St. Paul9s Methodist Church; various bridge
groups; and other civic organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband,
parents, brother and son-in-law. Survivors include her daughter, Ann Farmer of
Amarillo, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Cody Deem of Shawnee; five
grandchildren and spouses, Phil Farmer, Pat Farmer, Kelly and Clark Robertson of
Amarillo, Texas, Kristen and Allen Wallach and Adam and Adrianne Deem of Fort
Worth, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Abby Robertson, Paige Wallach
and Adam Joseph Deem. These are the facts of her life: The pulse of her life
were her family and friends. Her hospitality is legend. She nourished all who
came to know her with either her famous vanilla wafer pudding or her quiet
strength and sense of humor. Her creativity extended from her exquisite handwork
to her garden and her prized mystery lillies. Her love of life extended to bird
watching and doll collecting. She loved her coffee and prided herself on never
drinking water; perhaps that is why she lived to be 100. All who knew her
benefited from her long, vigorous life. We had her longer than most. Memorial
service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul9s Methodist Church with the Rev.
Dr. Rockford Johnson and Dr. Jerry Ball officiating. Memorials may be made to

Shawnee resident April Gillham Hall, 51, died Thursday, Jan. 25,
in Shawnee.
She was born Dec. 24, 1955, to Ronald A., Sr. & Allie M. (Reeves) Gillham in
Torrance, Cali.. She was married Feb. 14, 1997, to Lloyd Hall. April was manager
of Rave Revue for 15 years. She enjoyed glass etching and sewing. She was
preceded in death by her father-in-law, Orville Lloyd Hall, Sr; and
grandparents, Ed and Lena Gillham; aunt, Maggie Williams. Survivors include

William L. Qualls
Newalla resident William L. Qualls died Friday, Jan. 26, in Newalla at the age
of 84.
He was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Wister, Okla., to William Thomas and Dora Belle
(Self) Qualls.
He grew up in Shawnee, also living in Midwest City, and had lived in Newalla for
many years.
On Oct. 2, 1957, he married Wilma L. Smith in Goliad, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Following
that service he joined the U.S. Air Force.
He worked in civil service at Tinker Air Force Base until he retired in 1987.
William enjoyed fishing, sports, his family and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; infant child, Lethal Everett Qualls;
and three brothers, Otis E., Orbie and Homer Qualls.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Qualls of the home; one daughter and
son-in-law, Janelle and Russell H. Richter of Waco, Texas; two sons and two
daughters-in-law, Hoyt Qualls of Newall, Troy and Cindy Qualls of Norman, and
Kym Qualls of Moore; one brother, Willard Qualls of Shawnee; one sister, Elma
Lamberts; seven grandchildren, Heather Thornton-Masterpool, Niles Thornton,
Chance Qualls, Logan Qualls and Breanna Qualls, Coal White and Nick White; one
great-grandson, Chandler Thornton.

Paul DeMik
Tecumseh resident Paul DeMik, 65, died Friday, Jan. 26, in
Shawnee.
He was born Feb. 19, 1941, to John and Beatrice (Hatton) DeMik in Hammond, Ind.
He grew up in Chicago, Ill., where he attended school and graduated. He later
moved to California for a few years before moving to Oklahoma where he met his
wife.
On Nov. 5, 1971, he married Kay Chapman in Shawnee.
He worked as a truck driver for Koss Construction. Paul enjoyed fishing, NASCAR,
doing crossword puzzles, driving trucks, old cars and wreckers.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Kay DeMik of the home; seven children and their
spouses, Pamela and Mark Morgan, Sherry and Chris Adams, Tina and Tim Wilson,
Kenneth and Sylvia Chapman, Ironda and Mike Montgomery, Daniel and Lesa DeMik,
and Andrea and Eric Reed; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; mother,
Beatrice DeMik; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Herman DeMik, Allen and
Alice DeMik; sister and brother-in-law, Judith and Al Pyke; numerous other
relatives and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mary Wishon

Elva Climer Smith

Former Wewoka resident Elva Smith, 69, died Saturday Jan. 28, in
a Oklahoma City Hospital.
Elva Climer Smith was born in Anadarko on Aug. 27, 1937 to William Henry and
Viola Estell(Campbell) Climer. She attended school at New Lima and later
attended Rose College for two years. She was employed at Tinker Air Force Base
for 38 years and was a member of the Baptist Church and Eastern Star. Mrs. Smith
loved her family and put them above everything other things and good mother and
grandmother.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Smith of Seminole and Terry Smith of Shawnee;
companion, Art Dover; brothers, Carrol Gene Climer and David Ray Allen;
grandchildren, Misty Smith, Rickey Smith, and Travis Lynn White, Elizabeth
Smith; one great-grandchild, Amanda Kay Lynn White.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with
Johnny Chesser officiating . Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery under the
direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Alice Mae Bostick
Wanette resident Alice Mae Bostick, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 27, in Norman.
She was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Danville, Ark. To Robert and Emma (Hall) Peeler.
Alice was raised in the Wanette area.
She was married March 14, 1942, in Lubbock, Texas, to Dave T. Bostick. Mr.
Bostick preceded her in death May 10, 1998.
Following her marriage she and her husband farmed and ranched in West Texas for
20 years. They then ran a dairy in Chromo, Colo., for 5 years. In 1965 they
moved back to Macomb where they also farmed and ranched.
In 2000 she moved to Wanette, where she had lived since. She enjoyed gardening,
house plants, crocheting, reading, cooking, canning and raising chickens.
She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Kent Bramwell; two sisters, Letha
Wilson and Flora Degn; and three brothers, Lee, Ed and George Lester Peeler.
Survivors include, three daughters and one son-in-law, Janet Taylor of Oklahoma
City, Rosa Lea and Kenneth Griffith of Liberal, Kan., and Beverly Bostick of
Wanette, two sisters, Roxie Farley of Lexington, Clema Farley of Wanette, one
brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Pat Peeler of Del City; grandchildren,
Margaret Whitaker, Eric Taylor, Derek Taylor, Daniel Taylor and Tamie Elam; nine
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other
relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. To 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper
Funeral Home in Tecumseh and again beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Chapel
in Wanette.
Service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Wanette with
the Rev. Larry Stevenson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Wanette,

Ruby Laverne Thompson
Maud resident Ruby Laverne Thompson died Saturday, Jan. 27, in Oklahoma City at
the age of 80.
She was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Eagletown, Okla., to James E. And Lillie Mae
(Vickery) Cobb.
She was raised in the Macomb area and had lived in Purcell. She had resided in
Maud for the past 15 years.
On Feb. 11, 1942, she married Marvell Thompson in Pauls Valley. He preceded her
in death on May 24, 2001.
Ruby was a licensed practical nurse and had worked at Central State Hospital,
Mission Hill Hospital, Sunset Estates in Seminole and Maud and Shawnee Care
Center. She also had worked as a beautician out of her home.
Ruby enjoyed traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and fishing. Her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a focal point in her life. Also
preceding her in death was one grandson, James Garretson.
Surviviors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and James Garretson of
Maud, Jolene and Max Hunt of Seminole, Nickie and Jerry Nelson of Maud, and
Debbie and Randy Briggs of Tecumseh; son and daughter-in-law, Morris and Carleta
Thompson of Tecumseh; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dewayne Hillis of
Stratford; brother, William Cobb of Asher; nine grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends, including special
friend, Melvin Long.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim
Martin and the Rev. Dennis Stone officiating. Burial will be at Old Moral
Cemetery.

Joyce Imogene Jackson
Longtime Okemah area resident Joyce Imogene Jackson, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 30,
in Okemah.
She was born July 6, 1923, in Okemah to William Henry and Eva Sarah (Watson)
Farrill .
On Dec. 27, 1939, she married John Earl Jackson in Cromwell. He later preceded
her in death Aug. 22, 2005.
Mrs. Jackson retired from the Wrangler Plant in Okemah after more than 25 years
of employment. She attended the First Baptist Church in Okemah. Joyce enjoyed
sewing and cooking for her family.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, William Henry and Eva Sarah
Farrill; husband, John Earl Jackson; one daughter; one brother; five sisters;
one daughter-in-law, Carol Jackson; and two grandchildren. She is survived by
two sons, Jimmie Ray Jackson of Bearden and Gerald Wayne Jackson and wife,
Sharon, of Konawa; three daughters, Patricia Ann Boatman and husband, Bob, of
Castle, Donna Sue Tate and husband, Rory, of Oklahoma City, and Elaine Gail
Coplin and husband, Joe, of Shawnee; two brothers, Duaine Henry Farrill of
Okemah and Phillip Wayne Farrill of Okmulgee; 12 grandchildren, 25
great-grandchildren, and three great-great-gandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah
with the Rev. Larry Chesser officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery
in Okemah.

God decided to take one of his children, Johnny Harvey, home, Thursday, Jan. 11,
at 7 a.m. He died at the age of 54 at his home.
He left behind a wife, Rowena Harvey; four children, Lisa, Shelia, Johnny
"Bubba" Harvey of Shawnee and Timothy Harvey of Arkansas; ten grandchildren,
eight of Shawnee and two of Arkansas; one great-grandchild of Arkansas; one
son-in-law, Mitchell Harjo; two daughters-in-law, Michelle (Batt) Harvey of
Shawnee, and Marlaine Harvey of Arkansas; several half brothers and sisters of
Arkansas; four brothers and one sister, all of Arkansas; lots of nieces and
nephews of Arkansas; close nephews, Ronald Warren and Ricky Warren of Norman;
niece, Angelia Warren of Norman.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, three sisters, four brothers,
a twin brother, and three other brothers of Arkansas.
Service will be 9 a.m. Saturday at 305 N. Louisa, Shawnee, with Bro. Manning, of
Liberty Baptist Church officiating.
