Robert "Ray" DuBois

Collinsville, Conn., resident Robert "Ray" DuBois, 75, husband of Regina (Lamer) DuBois, died Sunday, Jan. 28, at Unity Hospital in Shawnee after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Collinsville, to Lucien and Odile (Fournier) DuBois.

Ray served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korean War veteran.

He was a graduate of Canton High School. He worked 25 years as a secondary set-up machinist for both New England Spring Company and Bristol Spring Company. He loved walking, bowling, fishing, and cooking.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Lucien DuBois and Odile (Fournier) DuBois; and two brothers, Clifford DuBois and Richard DuBois.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond R. DuBois of Avon, Conn., and Michael T. DuBois of Torrington, Conn.; two daughters, Linda M. McGuffie of Carlton, Ore., and Vera J. Elrod of Macomb; five grandchildren, Bryan M., Matthew M., and Ethan R. Elrod, Netanya DuBois and Jordan A. DuBois; one brother, Lucien DuBois Jr. Of Harwick, Vt.; and one sister Lorraine Soucy of Avon, Conn.; several nieces and nephews.

Mary A. Perkins

Shawnee resident Mary A. Perkins died Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the age of 98.
Mary was born in Paden, Okla., on Sept. 2, 1908, to Charles and Viola Lower.

She married C.T. Perkins on Nov. 27, 1927. They were married for 64 years before his death in 1991. Rev and Mrs. Perkins lived in Crescent, Kingfisher and Shawnee.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a brother, Frank; and an infant son, Charles David.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Lankard of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Bart Weedman and wife, Leigh, of Fort Worth, Texas, Jayna Haney and husband, Mike, of Houston, Texas, Krista Tippett of St. Paul, Minn., and Alan Parker of Los Angeles, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, Aly, Sebastian, Jacob, Zachary, Erin and Ryan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Shawnee .

Longtime Seminole resident Dorene Andrews died Sunday, Jan. 28, at the age of 44.
Service will be 1 p.m. Today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Don Ramsey officiating.

Robert Lee Halstead

Shawnee resident Robert Lee "Bob" Halstead, 86, departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 31, in Oklahoma City.
He was born March 27, 1920, in Carterville, Ill., to Sam and Mary (Freeman) Halstead.

Bob served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy. He was a retired geologist, a member of the First Christian Church in Shawnee, and a 32nd Degree Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verna Lucetta (Richardson) Halstead; and one grandson.

Survivors include his son, Gary Lane Halstead of Haymarket, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bob Pickett of Prague; brother, Sam Halstead Jr. Of Ohio; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. To 8 p.m. Today at Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Pastor John Halstead, Bro. Tim Emmons, and the Rev. Milo Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at the Prague Cemetery.

Mark Allen Taylor-Barnett

Shawnee resident Mark Allen Taylor-Barnett, 32, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 30. He passed from this life at his home in Shawnee.
He was born April 2, 1974, at South Community Hospital to Roger and Sherida Barnett.

He was very humorous and mischievous. Mark enjoyed playing with his dogs, going to the casino, spending time with his family and making people laugh.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Carma Nell Eidson; grandfather, Billy Barnett; and aunt, Cheryl Bryan.

Survivors include his parents, Roger Barnett and Sherida Taylor; one daughter Rrhaylee Barnett and her mother (his best friend) Melissa Stubblefield; one brother, Billy Barnett; four sisters, Laura Lyn Brown and her husband, Josh, Amber Barnett, Ashley Taylor, and Roxy Barnett; two nieces, Ronee Harlin and her husband, Seth, and Whitney Coching; two nephews, Avry and Aydin Young; and one great-niece Blakelyn Harlin; one grandmother; Lenora Barnett; one grandfather, Jim Eidson; two very dear friends, Margo Starnes and Rosa Chan; his beloved dogs Peanut and Pepper and many other friends and family members.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel.


Reba Chandler

Shawnee resident Reba Chandler, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Edmond.
She was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Maxwell, Okla. To Dee B. And Elma M. (Abney) Belcher. She moved to Lincoln County as a teenager. She graduated from Wellston High School in 1945.

She was married Dec. 15, 1945, John N. Chandler in Wellington, Kan. He preceded her in death Oct. 7, 2002.

Following her marriage she lived in Chandler for several years. She also lived in Bartlesville, Hominy and Humboldt, Kan., before settling in Shawnee in 1967.

She worked for abstract offices and the county clerks office in Lincoln County. While living in Kansas she worked for a credit union. Upon moving to Shawnee she received her realtors license and became a broker and partner in Century 21 Golden Key.

She was very active member of Wesley United Methodist Church as well as the Rebekah's Lodge in Chandler. She enjoyed reading, sewing and spending time at Lake Eufaula.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two brothers, Kenneth Belcher and Vaughn Belcher.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Richard Rollins of Edmond, Paula and Paul Martin of Coppell, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, John L. And Laura Chandler of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Taylor and her husband, Ralph, of Shawnee, and Carolyn Riley of Edmond; and one brother, Troy Belcher of Golden Valley, Ariz.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Burress and Rep. Kris Steele officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler.

Sheila Kay Ross

McLoud resident Sheila Kay Ross, 47, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Chariton, Iowa.

She was born Oct. 17, 1959, in Abilene, Kan., to Charles Kenneth Greening and Bartrella "Barty" Mae (Foster) Atwell.

She was married Feb. 14, 1980, to Dane Ross

Sheila was a truck driver. She and her husband Dane owned their own truck.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, Dane Ross; father, Charles Greening and his wife, Mary Jo; mother, Barty Atwell and her husband, Don; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Candice Ross; granddaughter, Halee Ross; sister, JoElla Nolen and friend, John Haffey; sister and brother-in-law, Karla and Danny Bryce; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Barbara Ross of Harrah; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Georgia and Jim Hinshaw of Tucson, Ariz.; many cousins, nieces, nephews and very special friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Lee Witt officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery, Dale, under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.


Ruby A. Batchelor

Meeker resident Ruby A. Batchelor, 97, died Friday, Feb. 2, in Meeker.

She was born Oct. 31, 1909, in Prague to Dr. Owen and Mary Sutton. Ruby was the youngest of five daughters.

Ruby was married Dec. 24, 1929, to James Wallace Batchelor in Milfay. He preceded her in death October 25, 1983.

Most of her childhood was spent in Milfay. After graduating from Milfay High School, she attended and graduated from Hills Business College, Oklahoma City. She had a long business career beginning in 1928 and ending in 1984. After retirement in 1972, she served as Treasurer for the Town of Meeker for eleven years.

Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church, Meeker. She continued to live in her home in Meeker until the end.

Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Mary Evelyn; her parents and four sisters.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jerry Gaines of Sparks; granddaughter Terri Branson and husband, David; grandson, Allen Gaines and wife, Shelly; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler and Madison Gaines.

Viewing will be held at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Stroud Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Shawnee resident Wanda Lee Abel, 77, died Friday, Feb. 2, in Shawnee.

Juanita Marie Woods

Shawnee resident Juanita Marie Woods, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 1, in Shawnee.

She was born April 19, 1923, in Norman to John William and Verna (Fussel) Graham.

Juanita was raised on farms in the Newcastle, Norman and Blanchard areas. She attended school in Newcastle and Norman.

She was married June 10, 1948, in New Mobete, Texas, to Earl Lee Woods. He preceded her in death May 31, 1988.

Following her marriage she moved to California then to Arlington, Texas, for 40 years. She moved to the Shawnee area 13 years ago.

She worked at Douglas Aircraft Base (Tinker Air Force Base) on aircraft that was used during World War II. She also worked in dietary at elementary schools and later at Arlington Memorial Hospital.

Juanita was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very special to family and friends alike.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four sisters; five brothers; step-son, Jimmy Woods; and great-granddaughter, Makailah Marie Sanders-Bates.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Erlene Sanders and Allen Graham of Shawnee, and Judith Ann and Butch Collier of Arlington, Texas; one son, Jerry Dwayne Woods of Shawnee; two sisters, Norma June Graham of Shawnee, and Betty Lou Anderson of Tulsa; brother, Curtis Leon Graham of Medford, Ore.; grandchildren, Amanda Marie Wallace, Bryan Eugene Sanders, Mickey Shawn Collier, James Cody Collier, Lisa Marie Caid, Jay Woods, Mike Woods, and Jennifer Woods; and many great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ray Cemetery with Lester Hastings of Good Shepherd Hospice officiating.


Joe Bill Lantrip

McLoud resident Joe Bill Lantrip died Thursday, Feb. 1, at his residence at the age of 79.
Joe was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Ione, Ark., to Delmar V. Lantrip and Avos (Savage) Lantrip.

On Dec. 31, 1948, he married Wilma Rose Johnton in Waldron, Ark.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 and the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.

Joe worked as a truck driver for Transcon Freight Lines for 25 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #126 in McLoud and the Road Runners Club for Retired Drivers. He used the G.I. Bill to obtain a private pilot license.

Joe's children and grandchildren were the delight of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Lantrip.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Lantrip of the home; three sons, Stanley Lantrip of Norman, Steve Lantrip of Shawnee and Stacey Lantrip of Newalla; five grandchildren and several other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Dennis Stone officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.

Zella Laverne Milburn

Lawton resident Zella Laverne Milburn, 96, died Sunday, Feb. 4, in Lawton.
Zella was born March 26, 1910, in Stephens County to the Rev. M.F. And Emma (Clark) Milburn. She lived in and around Duncan for most of her life.

She graduated from Comanche High School in 1929 and then from Westminister Junior College in Tehuacana, Texas. She received her bachelor of science degree and mastersdegree from Central State University in Edmond.

Zella was a member of the Stephens United Methodist Church in Duncan for 52 years. In past years she had served as chairperson of the Council of Ministries as well as many other committees. She was a member of the Duncan United Methodist Women and served in many of it's offices. She also served on committees of the Lawton District and Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Women. In 2004, she established the Zella L. Milburn Scholarship Endowment Fund to benefit students of Duncan Stephens United Methodist Church.

Zella was a lover of children and youth. She began teaching Sunday school classes when she was a sophomore in high school. She taught all age levels; mostly elementary. She sponsored the Methodist Youth Fellowship for 24 years and 4-H Club for 27 years. Zella was a public school teacher; teaching at Stony Point in Comanche County; Oak College, west of Comanche in Stephens County; White Rock in Lincoln County; and Harrisburg and Empire in Stephens County. In 1970 she was chosen Stephens County Teacher of the Year. In 1974 she retired from the Empire School District after teaching third grade for 30 years. She was a member of the Stephens County and Oklahoma Retired Teachers Assocation. She was a member of Rock Creek Family Community and Education Club and was a volunteer for Christian Concerns for Duncan for a number of years. In 1999 Zella made her home in the Village on Lee in Lawton and became a member of the United Methodist Church in Lawton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Roy, Willie, Charlie, Mansel, Clarence, and Luther.

She is survived by one brother and sister in law, Marion F. (Jr.) and Linda Milburn of Tecumseh; three sisters, Jetta Doyle of Chickasha, Johnnie Booth of Lawton and Rosetta Penrod of Houston, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Milburn, of Duncan, Doris Milburn of Comanche, and Kathryn Milburn of Mustang; eleven nephews; twelve nieces; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A special visitation for family and friends will be from 7 p.m. To 9 p.m. Today at the funeral home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stephens United Methodist Church, Duncan, with the Rev. Ruth Atterberry, pastor, officiating and Kenley Milburn assisting. Burial will be at Duncan City Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Wanda Lee Abel

Shawnee Wanda Lee Abel, 77, died Friday, Feb. 2, in Shawnee.
She was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Pottawatomie County, to Charlie and Fern Pauline (Bodkin) Coffman.

Wanda was married Oct. 23, 1947, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Oran Kenneth Abel.

She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church. She also was a Campfire leader for 12 years and a Cub Scout leader for 3 years; a Master Gardner and a member of the Lilac Unit Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Lee Abel; a sister, Peggy Lofton; and her parents.

Survivors include her husband Oran K. Abel Sr. Of the home; daughter, Cleo Crothers of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, O. Conard O. Springwater

Conard O. Springwater, 81, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, in Shawnee.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1925, in Gans, Okla.

Conard was raised in Seminole where he graduated from Seminole High School. He went to Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma University. He was a master mason for fifty years and was a Southern Baptist ordained Deacon.

He was born July 10, 1945, to Wanda Springwater.

Conard served in the U.S. Army during WWII, The Korean Conflict and European Theatre as a master sergeant and a squad leader with the 504th parachute company and the 82nd airborne division, E-company. He also was a platoon sergeant in the 120th Engineering Company, 45th infantry.

He worked for ten years at Southern California Edison Power Company where he was a broker/dispatcher. He retired after 27 years from the federal government as a Power Systems Broker working on government dams.

He received a distinguished career service award from the U.S. Dept. Of Energy.

He and his wife received a distinguished leadership award in 1998 from Oklahoma Baptist University.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; Connie Lynn Springwater Ludwig in November 1995; and two sisters Helen Hart and Ruth Roby.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda of the home; one brother, Bert Springwater of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Lawrence and Linda Ludwig of Colorado; and numerous, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.


Lillian B. (Pat) Carter

Shawnee resident Lillian B. (Pat) Carter, 84, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 3, at her daughter's home in Shawnee.
She was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Texas to Abel and Ella Grace (Banks) Corgill.

She graduated from Vamoosa High School.

Pat was married June 1, 1944 in Shawnee to J. E. Carter.

She worked at the Douglas Aircraft Plant in Midwest City during World War II and was a homemaker.

She attended Shawnee Faith Assembly for 34 years. Pat enjoyed serving others in life. She loved flowers, gardening, and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, parents, and sisters; Frankie Posric, Oleta Boren, Jackie Carson, and Ora Sharp.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Beverly and Roger Banning, Shawnee; one sister, Essie Collier, Shawnee; granddaughter, Teri Schollenbarger and her husband, Lane of Shawnee; grandson, Randy Banning and his wife, April of Oklahoma City; and the joy of her life - her only great-grandchild, Kinley Schollenbarger of Shawnee.

Service will be 10 a.m. Today at Shawnee Faith Assembly with the Rev. Kurt Beauford and the Rev. M.L. Hadsell officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.


Donna Lee Brown

Former Shawnee resident Donna Lee (Truby) Brown, currently of Ada, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the age of 72.
Donna was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Drumright, Okla., to Glenn and Marguerite (Ray) Truby.

She met and married the love of her life, Dennis Brown, on April 20, 1955. They raised four children together.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Donna is survived by her children, Deborah Ritter and special friend, Mike Bourne, of Shawnee, David Brown of Shawnee, Denise Brown Breed of Virginia and Denny and Cindy Brown of Indiana; her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bill Goodnight; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nadine and Roy Myers; grandchildren, Mandy and Steven Rooker, Jamie and Chris St. Laurent, Jennifer Brown, Denae and Brad Brady, Michael Justin and Stephanie Breed, Colt and Vanessa Brown and Misty Breed; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Zarek, Madax, Riley, Sean, Kyle, Trinity, Tatam, Gage, Dakoda, Jaclyn and Matthew; along with many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh with Brother John Keeling officiating.

Meeker resident Connie Mack Ailey, 73, died Friday, Feb. 2, in Oklahoma City.
He was born Sept. 23, 1933, in Elmwood, Ark., to Zack and Pearl (Crow) Ailey.

He attended Shawnee High School.

He was married Sept. 27, 1957, to Geneva Joyce Martin. They enjoyed 49 years together.

He attended Meeker Church of Christ. He enjoyed horses, cattle, and fishing every fall at Lake Eufaula.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Taylor Ailey; and one son, Howard Ailey.

Survivors include his wife Geneva Ailey of the home; children, Randy Ailey and wife, Angel, of Meeker; Keith Ailey and wife, Gayle, of Ada; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doyle Loveland officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.


Thelma Alice Talbott

Shawnee resident Thelma Alice Talbott, 79, died Saturday, Feb. 3, at Unity Hospital.
She was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Lowrey, Okla., to William Mack and Minnie B. (Davis) Harris.

She retired from Unity Hospital after 15 years. She loved to quilt and was a member of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Raymond Talbott on April 10, 2004; and five siblings.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn Murrow and husband, Rod, of Freedom, Okla., Ray Talbott and wife, Vicki, of Ada, Linda Dixon and husband, Gary, of Wellington, Kan., and Louis Talbott of Idaho; sister, Erma Roberson of Shawnee; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. To 8 PM. Today at Gaskill Funeral Home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Faith Baptist Church in Tahlequah with Pastor Kenny Kelly officiating. Burial will be at Molly Field Cemetery in Tahlequah.


Col. Mike Humphrey

Macomb resident Col. Mike Humphrey, 58, died Sunday, Feb. 4, in Macomb.
He was born Nov. 11, 1948, in Shawnee to Charles William and Weda Jean (Beal) Humphrey.

He graduated from Macomb High School in 1966. He then attended East Central University in Ada and the Fort Smith Auctioneer School in July 1964.

He worked as an auctioneer throughout the state his entire life at cattle auctions and was a rancher in Macomb for many years. His love was being a cattle auctioneer.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee.

Preceded in death were his parents.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Sonny and Gerallyn Humphrey of Macomb, nephews, Michael Humphrey and wife, Kristie, of Edmond, Chris Humphrey of Macomb, Seth Humphrey of Yukon; niece, Sunny Llyn Munson and husband, Todd, of Shawnee; four great-nephews, Brad, Derek, Kevin and Jack Humphrey, all of Edmond; numerous other relatives and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Bill Montin officiating. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery.

Rudy Rolette

Shawnee resident Rudy Rolette, 74, departed this life Monday after an extended illness.
He was born August 28, 1932, in the Econtuskee area to Luther and Ella (Squirell) Rolette.

He graduated from Earlsboro High School and earned his bachelor degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. He pursued his master degree at Oklahoma City University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954 in San Diego, Calif.

The majority of his career was spent in management of manufacturing companies. He retired from the Absentee Shawnee Tribe where he served for 10 years as Tax Administrator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kylie Copeland; and brother, Dexter Rolette.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Georgie of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Leroy Downs, and Rochelle and Billy Copeland, all of Shawnee; two grandsons, Che' Downs of Oklahoma City and Kyle Copeland of Shawnee; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Christine Rolette of Shawnee, Antone and Lorraine Rolette of Yukon, and Gilbert Rolette of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara and Stan Kaskuske, and Pat and Leon Bell, all of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Neida Rolette of Shawnee; mother-in-law, Laura Kishketon Walker of Shawnee; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Floyd Parnecher of Newcastle; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Leonardine Walker, Fort. McDowell, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Conard O. Springwater

Conard O. Springwater, 81, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, in Shawnee.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1925, in Gans, Okla.

Conard was raised in Seminole where he graduated from Seminole High School. He went to Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma University. He was a master mason for fifty years and was a Southern Baptist ordained Deacon.

He was married July 10, 1945, to Wanda Springwater.

Conard served in the U.S. Army during WWII, The Korean Conflict and European Theatre as a master sergeant and a squad leader with the 504th parachute company and the 82nd airborne division, E-company. He also was a platoon sergeant in the 120th Engineering Company, 45th infantry.

He worked for ten years at Southern California Edison Power Company where he was a broker/dispatcher. He retired after 27 years from the federal government as a Power Systems Broker working on government dams.

He received a distinguished career service award from the U.S. Dept. Of Energy.

He and his wife received a distinguished leadership award in 1998 from Oklahoma Baptist University.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; Connie Lynn Springwater Ludwig in November 1995; and two sisters Helen Hart and Ruth Roby.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda of the home; one brother, Bert Springwater of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Lawrence and Linda Ludwig of Colorado; and numerous, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.


Carl Edward Satterfield

Macomb resident Carl Edward Satterfield died Monday, Feb. 5, in Macomb at the age of 78.
He was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Bowlegs, Okla., to Theodore William and Cora Mae (Maddox) Satterfield.

On Sept. 12, 1961, he married Jane (Pickering) Rhodd in Macomb.

Carl worked in the oilfield in Wyoming and Oklahoma. In 1962 he went to work for Broce Construction Company where he was a mechanic and drove a truck.

Carl served in the U.S. Army from March 15, 1947, to Jan. 20, 1950.

Preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers, one sister, one sister-in-law, and one nephew.

Survivors include his wife, Jane, of the home; son, Steven Rhodd of Colorado; daughter, Julie Floyd and husband, Benny, of Shawnee; son, Carl Satterfield Jr. And his wife, Mickeala, of Harrah; sister, Ethel Neal and her husband, Raymon, of Shawnee; two grandsons, Wesley Scott of Norman, and Brad Scott and his wife, Laney, of Texas; one granddaughter, Casey Larson; one great-grandson, J.C. Larson of Wisconsin; two brothers and their wives, James and Fern Satterfield of California and Robert and Paula Satterfield of Kansas; three sisters-in-law, Bertha Satterfield of Oklahoma City, Mary Satterfield of Oklahoma City and Freda Satterfield of Shawnee; numerous nieces and nephews and loved ones.

Mildred Alice (Elwell) Moore

Glenpool resident Mildred Alice (Elwell) Moore, 89, died Monday, Feb. 5, at Glenpool Health Care Center.
She was born Aug. 28, 1917, in Stillwater to Rex Elwell and Beulah (Miller) Elwell.

Mildred was very talented at cooking, canning her own food, and making beautiful quilts. She loved crotching, as well as tatting, knitting and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley Moore; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors included one son and wife, Everett and Virginia Potter of Shawnee; one daughter and husband, Betty and John Farrar of Bixby; four grandchildren, Dwight Farrar and Susie of Kiefer, Debria and Clay Perry of Beggs, LaNora and Mike Bean of Glenpool, and Keith Farrar of Tulsa; eight great-grandchildren, Lora and Brian Dowler of Bixby, Aaron and Tana Perry of Broken Arrow, Crystal and Scott Kraftchick of Orlando, Fla., Stephanie and Tim Dodge of Wichita, Kan., Justin Bean of Tulsa, Adam and Daniel Farrar of Bixby, and Ryan Perry of Beggs; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Santino

Tecumseh resident Mary Santino, 49, died Sunday, Feb. 4, in Shawnee.
She was born Sept. 22, 1957, in Elgin, Ill. To Frank and Ruby (Martin) Haser.

She was born and raised in Elgin, Illinois. She later moved to Tecumseh and has lived there since.

She was married August, 1976, in Shawnee to Bob Santino.

Mrs. Santino was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, taking pictures and sewing. Her grandchildren were a focal point in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Santino of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Shannon Stevenson of Tecumseh; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Patty Santino of Tecumseh, Donny and Mindy Santino of Madill, and Michael and Leah Santino of Tecumseh; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Debora Haser of Moore; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kris and Roger Jacobsen of Corpus Christi, Texas, Cathy and Nick Frazier of Princeton, Ky., Cecelia and Bill Santino of Tecumseh, Betty and Kenneth Haley of Shawnee, and Peggy and David Carlson of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Juanita Proffitt Goss

Former Prague resident Juanita Proffitt Goss, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 6.
She was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Tupelo, Okla. She was the ninth of ten children born to David Backus and Alma Lula (Baggett) Proffitt.

Juanita married Alvie Newton "Jack" Goss on December 12, 1936, in Ada.

Jack and Juanita purchased Goss Dry Goods in Maud in 1946. They opened a Goss Dry Goods in Prague in 1954. This business was sold in 1972 when Jack became ill.

Juanita was very active in the Prague United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Prague Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She also was a member of Chapter AF of PEO; the Eastern Star; the American Legion Auxiliary; and the Prague Historical Society.

Juanita loved people; most of all she loved her family.

Her parents; four brothers and five sisters; husband, Jack Goss; and one grandchild, Randy Lynn Aylor, preceded Juanita in death.

Kathy Turnpaugh

Prague resident Kathy Turnpaugh, 43, died Sunday, Feb. 4, in Prague.
She was born Jan. 17, 1964, in Norman to Ted C. And Carolyn June (Sullivan) Geyer. She grew up in Tribbey and had lived in Wanette, Asher, and South Fork, Colo. She had lived in Prague for the past six years.

She attended Wanette High School.

She was married in 1983 to Michael Scott Turnpaugh in Wanette. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2001.

She was a farmer and had driven a mining truck. She raised two children by herself; they were the focal point of her life. She enjoyed the outdoors, and hunting.

She also was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Lee; step-father, George Lee; grandfather, Travis Sullivan and sister, Debbie Gregg.

Survivors include her daughter, Sarah Turnpaugh of the home; son, Michael Turnpaugh of the home; friend, Larry Belcher; father, Ted C. Geyer of Wanette; sister and brother-in-Law, Donna and Mickey Akerman of Konawa; brother, Ted A. Elbert Middleton (Bert) Lane

Shawnee resident Elbert Middleton (Bert) Lane, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, at a local hospital.
Bert was born March 2, 1926, in Shawnee to Josiah M. And Ester E. Lane.

He graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University.

When World War II broke out, he quit school at the age of 17 and joined the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Porter. Following his service he came home and finish school.

On Aug. 1, 1951, he married Ina Anderson. She preceded him in death in 1994. On Jan. 13, 2004, he married Wanda (Hess) Blackstone.

Bert worked for Boeing and Douglas Aircraft. He was a mason and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, a brother, and his first wife.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda of the home; step-daughters, LuWana Lowe, Pamala Riggin and June Penton; niece, Bettie Hall; nephew, Dick Buzzard; several other nieces and nephews; great-nephews and nieces, Mike Buzzard of McLoud, Guy Buzzard of Texas, Kay Rials of Newalla, Suzanne Frits of Stillwater, and Milhea Hall of Cottrill, Wash.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist church with Bill Matthews officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.


Freda LaNan Mize

Longtime Shawnee resident Freda LaNan Mize, 70, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007. She was surrounded by her loved ones when she took her journey back to God.
Freda was born Aug. 9, 1936, in Sulphur, Okla., to Cecil and Gertie Stephens.

On August 30, 1973, she married Edward Mize.

Freda loved her family. She was a kind and generous person and was a nurse for more than 40 years. She had cared for others all her life. Freda was dearly loved by her family and will be missed tremendously.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronny Wyrick; one brother, De Loyd Stephens; one sister, Jayne McGarry; and one brother-in-law, Hilton Phillips.

Freda is survived by her husband, Edward Mize; two sons, Ricky Wyrick of Bethel, Jerry Wyrick of Houston, Texas; her sister, Donnie Phillips of Idabel; four grandchildren, Jennifer Wyrick who resided with her; J. Don Wyrick of Ada, Jerrita Wyrick of Houston and Travis Wyrick of Bethel; two nieces, Terri Phillips and Kristi Phillips of Dallas; one nephew, Brad Phillips of Idabel; two step-daughters, Terri Mize of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sherri Graham of Fort Myers, Fla.

Marcia Maxine Brewer

Longtime Shawnee resident Marcia Maxine Brewer died Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the age of 93.
She was born to Otis P. Stamphill and Ruth M. (Michael) on Jan. 15, 1914, in Caney, Okla.

On Jan. 30, 1932, she married Floyd Virgil Brewer.

She was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II and worked at Tinker Air Force Base as an inventory clerk until her retirement. Maxine enjoyed spending time with her family and bowling.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd Brewer Sr.; four sisters; two sons, Floyd Brewer Jr. And Gary Arthur Brewer; two daughters, Loretta Faye Nixon and Elizabeth Jean Holland; two granddaughters, Debra Fay Pooler and Tracy Lynn Johnson.

"Nonny", as she was known to her family, is survied by her grandchildren, Marcia Cowan and husband, Johnny, Dayle Nixon, Gayle Riley and husband, Marvin, David Nixon, Chuck Day and wife, Connie, and Michael Brewer; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Today at Resthaven Memorial Park.


Jane E. Barnes

Shawnee resident Jane E. Barnes died Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Oklahoma City at the age of 77.
She was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Jane met her first husband in Brooklyn, N.Y. Both were in the U.S. Navy. They were stationed in Japan where they adopted their three children. They were then stationed at Widby Island, Wash., as well as living in Maryland, N.J. She then moved to California before moving to Oklahoma where she met her second husband, Joe Barnes. She had lived in Maud for the past 15 years.

Following her military service, she worked as a LVN for several nursing homes and as a homemaker for most of her life. Her children and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She loved making people smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Barnes, and her parents.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Morrow-Wade of Silver Springs, Nev.; son, Daniel Hallinan; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Christa Hallinan of Shawnee; granddaughters, Sherri Brown of Tecumseh, Christy Hallinan of Shawnee and Stephanie Hallinan of Tecumseh; grandsons, Clayton and Kyle Rogers; three great-grandchildren, Noah Brown, Gabe Brown and Addyson Brown.

Service will be 11 a.m. Today at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh with Father Basil Keenan, Immaculate Conception, officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Kylie Grace Standlee, infant daughter of Denay Dale Jordan and Mark Standlee Jr., died Tuesday, Feb. 6, in an Oklahoma City hospital.
Kylie was born Sept. 28, 2006, in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her grandpa, Dale Whiteman; great-grandma, Ann Whiteman; great-great-grandparents, Archa and Velma Weston.

Josie Kate Watkins

Josie Kate Watkins born Nov. 14, 2006, unexpectedly left this world to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007.
Every moment of her precious life will be cherished forever.

She was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Everett and Lois Watkins of Enid; Floyd Aubrey Salter, RosaBelle Salter Downs, Ralph Downs; and great-grandfather, Andrew Jerrold Lowe of Shawnee.

She is survived by her father and mother, Toby and Sara, and big sister, Ella Grace.

Service will be 2 p.m. Today at Quail Springs Church of Christ, Oklahoma City.

Melba Voncille (Prince) Hargus

McLoud resident Melba Voncille (Prince) Hargus, 78, departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 7, in McLoud.
She was born on May 14, 1928, in Wirt, Okla., to James Washington and Clym Eva (Grace) Prince.

Melba graduated from Waurika High School in 1946 and attended Cameron University, Lawton, prior to marriage.

On April 25, 1947, she married Thomas Newton Hargus in Waurika.

Melba was a loving mother, wife and made a home for her family. As the children attended school, she worked at businesses in and around Harrah, including Seikel's Grocery, Navarre's Drive In and McCorkle Truck Lines. Melba loved to travel, was an accomplished seamstress, artist and the best cook ever.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Virginia Lykins.

Survivor include her husband, Thomas Hargus of Bethel Acres; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Patrick and Deanna Hargus of Harrah and Michael Hargus of Oklahoma City; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda and Terry Gay of Midwest City, Nancy and Charles Loomis of Warr Acres, Ann and Greg Baker of Eufaula and Lisa Smith of Oklahoma City; one sister, Mona Venable, Mesquite, Texas; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Davenport resident Chrystal Irene Walker, 95, died Friday, Feb. 9, in Stroud.

Wendy S. Hansen

Wendy S. Hansen, 63, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Nashville, Tenn., to Cecil and Betty Jane (Cope)Wilkins.

Wendy grew up in Fort Smith, Ark., where her mother had a large dance studio.

She moved to Oklahoma City graduating from John Marshall High School and attended Arkansas Tech and Oklahoma City University.

She was a medical secretary, a real estate agent and later community education coordinator in Shawnee where her husband was in the private practice of medicine. In 1985 the family moved to Stillwater where she lived until the time of death.

She placed the raising of her children above all else and was very active in school events and education matters in addition to musical and dance programs during the time they were still at home. She and her great smile and loving ways will be greatly missed.

Wendy leaves behind her husband, Thomas; children, Jennifer Norton and Eric Hansen; her sister, Doran Bowers; two grandchildren, Jenna and Trey Norton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Salem Lutheran Church at Elm and Duck streets in Stillwater.

Service is under the direction of Palmer-Marler-Carberry Funeral Home in Stillwater.

Seminole resident Carolyn Dean Davisson, 67, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Seminole Municipal Hospital after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Catoosa resident Monica Janean Martin, 29, departed this life Friday, Feb. 9, in Catoosa, Okla.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, and mother.

On March 15, 1977 she was born in Oklahoma City to Jimmy C. And Linda A. (Webb) Bartlett.

She graduated from Prague High School with the class of 1995. Her family and friends will remember her for her contributions to the Prague High School Speech Team where she won numerous awards. Monica was a cosmetologist, a member of the Army National Guard in Kingfisher and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sparks.

She was preceded in death by her three grandparents.

George E. "Newt" Compton

Shawnee resident George E. "Newt" Compton, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 10, at a local hospital.
He was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Francis, Okla. To George Thomas and Maggie Agnes (Goodman) Compton.

He entered the Navy in 1943 and served his country until April of 1946. He was stationed on the U.S.S Wasp in the Pacific Fleet.

On June 23, 1946, he married Naomi Daley in Shawnee.

He was a Fuel Control Supervisor at Tinker Air Force Base and retired in 1987.

He received his honorary high school diploma from Bethel High School in 2001. He was a member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church and the VFW. He lived in Shawnee most of his life. George's greatest joy was his family. He loved watching his children and grandchildren compete ===cluded gardening, hunting and fishing.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Howard and Lucien Compton; sister, Bessie Wooten; mother-in-law, Pearl Daley and father-in-law, Charles Daley.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Naomi Compton of the home; daughter, Darla Clements and husband, Bill, of Lindsay; three sons, Russell Compton and wife, Lisa, of Arlington, Texas, Terry Compton and wife, Sherry, of Shawnee, and Jerry Compton and wife, Lisa, of Owasso; grandchildren, Jason Clements and wife, Sasha, Bridget Furnish and husband, Justin, Nick Clements and wife, Jen, Carie Moore and husband, Michael, Rusty Harrelson and husband, Matt, Jarrod Compton and wife, Kelley, Jillian Compton, Susannah Compton, Miles Compton, Nathan Compton, Jason Pettigrew, Asa Pettigrew and Aulia Claytor; great-grandchildren, Logan Furnish, Londyn Furnish, Will Clements, Reese Clements, Nicole Moore, Will Moore, Skylar Harrelson and Zoe Dees; sister, Elsie Farris; and numerous and loving nieces and nephews.

Donn Bay Boatwright

McLoud resident Donn Bay Boatwright, 55, died Saturday, Feb. 10, in Mcloud.
He was born May 22, 1951, in Independence, Kan. To Doyle Jene and Patricia Ann ( Williams) Boatwright.

Donn graduated in 1969 from Simi Valley High School in Simi Valley, Calif. And attended Moorpark Community College in Moorpark, Calif.

On June 5, 1981, he married Stephanie Irene Denney in Ventura, Calif.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1970 and remained in the Air Force for 24 years before retiring in 1994 from Tinker Air Force Base as a 1st sergeant. After his retirement, he went to work for Boeing where he remained until 2005.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, McLoud, ordained by Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church, Oklahoma Jail and Prison Ministry, where he ministered at Boley and McAlester facilities for 24 years, Nobel Bee Association, and Minister of Education at 1st Baptist Church of McLoud. He also traveled on several mission trips to Africa, Dominica, South Dakota, Matamoros and Mexico.

He taught a college and career class at First Baptist Church of McLoud for approximately 10 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, interested in hunting, fishing, and any other outdoor activity. He loved his family and relished family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Boatwright of the home; daughters, Cheryl Laughlin of Lexington, Deann Hames of Lexington; grandson, Jakob Kelgore of Lexington; mother, Patricia Ann Boatwright of McLoud; sister, Denise Grimes and husband, Delbert, of McLoud; niece, Alaina Donna Hall and husband, Trevor, of Oklahoma City; great-nephew, Alexander Hall of Oklahoma City.

Service will be 10 a.m. At First Baptist Church, McLoud with the Rev. Ernest Graham assisted by the Rev. Larry Sparks. Burial will be at Blackburn Chapel Cemetery.


Bobby Ray Hardin

Former Shawnee resident Bobby Ray Hardin, currently of Van Alstyne, Texas, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, at Hilltop Haven in Gunter, Texas, at the age of 76.
Mr. Hardin was born on Oct. 26, 1930, in Childress, Texas, the son of Claude and Bertha (Campsey) Hardin.

Bobby married Doris McGee on July 7, 1951, in Hereford, Texas.

Bobby worked in Hereford for Coca-Cola as warehouse manager and later was the co-owner of Rainbow Carpet Dyeing and Cleaning in Hereford before moving to Shawnee. He was a Shawnee resident from 1982 until 2005.

Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 55 years, Doris Hardin.

Survivors include four children and spouses, Alan and Sheila Hardin of Prosper, Texas, Tony Hardin of Idabel, Becky and John Jennings of Van Alstyne, Texas, and Lynette and Dick Bohuslavicky of Shawnee; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Ed Hardin of Amarillo, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Today at Resthaven Memorial Park Chapel in Shawnee with the Rev. Wendell Williams officating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Family visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bobby Hardin, Thad Jennings, Ty Kuper, Trevor Hardin, Michael Myers, Beau Bohuslavicky and great-grandson, Taylor Hardin.

Joyce Hendrickson

Shawnee resident Joyce Hendrickson, 71, was called to heaven Saturday, Feb. 10. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Joyce was born in Dale to Villard and Jewel Garner. She graduated from Dale High School in 1953.

On June 19, 1954, she married Raymond Hendrickson. They resided in Shawnee all their lives. Joyce and Raymond remained married until Raymond's death last year.

Joyce worked hard most her life to provide for her family. She was employed by Sylvania, Western Electric, Allen Bradley, and Eaton. She retired from General Motors in 1997.

Joyce was a wonderful mother and friend. She especially loved her grandchildren and recently became a great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her parents, three brothers, Andrew Garner, Charles Garner, and Tommy Garner, and a sister, Karen Carpenter.

Survivors include her three daughters and son-in-law, Pam Alderman, Peggy Browning and Cindy and Phill Tyner; Granny Joyce was proud of her grandchildren, Michelle Alderman, Chad Browning, Zachary and Josh Tyner; recent birth of her great-granddaughter, Joe RaeAnn Alderman has been a special blessing. Joyce was loved like a sister by her three sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws, Patricia Proctor of Roanake, Texas, Rosie and Teddy Hendricks of Pryor, Hilda and Del Blair of Claremore, and two cousins who wer her dear friends, Bonnie Burrough of Shawnee and Shirley Jones of McLoud.

Mom was always there for us: always, and we will miss her dearly.

He was born Dec. 16, 1928, in Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Margaret Outland and son-in-law, Bernard Fuentez and grandson, Scott Lindauer.

Esther Ruth Moucka

Meeker resident Esther Ruth Moucka departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 10, in Shawnee at the age of 88.

Ruth was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Meeker to George Marcellus and Lillie Mae (Boland) Green. She was a resident of Meeker most of her life.

On April 12, 1940, she married Stanley John Moucka in Chandler. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1993.

Ruth was a lifelong member of the Meeker Assembly of God. She was a homemaker, a good cook, and loved to camp and travel. She was ready to go on a moment's notice. She went to Six Flags on the church bus at age 74 and rode several of the fast rides. She traveled to every state except Hawaii, Canada and Mexico. She also enjoyed doing crafts and quilting. Ruth's life revolved around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her parents, three brothers, two sisters and one son-in-law also preceded Ruth in death.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Betty Jane and Clyde McDaniel of Meeker and Ruth Ann Dooty of Meeker; grandchildren, Pam and Rich Theilen, David and Amie McDaniel, Bryon and DeLarra McDaniel, Andrea McDaniel, Tara and Josh Miller, Heather and Miles Underwood and Alisha Dooty; great-grandchildren, Austin, Justin, Autumn and Dawson McDaniel and Max Miller.

Shirlie A. Haddock Bowers Wilcoxson

Shawnee resident Shirlie A. Haddock Bowers Wilcoxson, 81, died Monday, Feb. 12, in Shawnee from natural causes.

She was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Shawnee to Dr. And Mrs. John N. Haddock.

Shirlie attended Shawnee High School graduating with the class of 1943, and The University of Oklahoma graduating in 1947 with two degrees: Commerical Art and Sculpture.

She was married to the late Dr. R.G. (Grady) Bowers Feb. 28, 1948, and in August 1988 she married Dr. Luther Wilcoxson.

She was on the faculty of Oklahoma Baptist University for a short time in the early 1960's and on the faculty of St. Gregory's University for 43 years where she retired this past April as Professor Emeritus.

Throughout her life she had received several accolades, awards and accomplishments in the field of sculpture with pieces on display locally, nationally and internationally. She had been a state ranked adult tennis player, an avid fisherman, a voracious reader, a loving spouse and wonderful mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John Haddock and Estelle Haddock and her first husband, Dr. Grady Bowers.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Luther Wilcoxson; her children, Dr. Brandon Bowers, Shan Bowers and Brett Bowers; her grandchildren, Blaire Bowers, Bailey Bowers, Caitlin Bowers, Lauren Bowers and Brady Bowers; her sisters, Sandra Haddock Hine and Sharon Haddock Schick; her brothers-in-law, Dr. Ted Hine and Dr. Robert Schick; and her daughters-in-law, April Bowers, Dr. Jane Bowers and Kathleen Giles.

Alice married Floyd Conger on July 18, 1987, in Wewoka. She retired in 2003 as a health care provider.

Shawnee resident Catherine Raley, 78, died Saturday, Feb. 10, in a Midwest City hospital.

She was born July 5, 1928, in Gregg, Okla., to Frank and Mary Hutchins.

She attended Temple High School in Temple, Okla. On June 22, 1947, she married J.L. Raley. They were married for 59 years.

Catherine was a restaurant owner and operator. She was a member of New Beginnings Church. She was involved in varied family and business activities. She always had an ear to listen and big heart for the community of Bethel Acres. She was a sweet momma to many and friend to all. She loved all and was loved by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters. Survivors include her husband, J.L. Raley; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Doug Howard, Donna and Tommy Allen and Sharon and John Wiginton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Brenda Raley; 14 grandchildren, Kimberly Mitchell, Kevin Howard, Kris Howard, Stephanie Bryan, Stacy Johnson, Kyle Raley, Kallee Kiser, Sumer Kiser, Kristin Shorb, Kara Shaw, Johnny Wiginton, Phillip Wiginton, Jenna Wiginton and Timothy Wiginton; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Billy Trammell and Christine Cullum.

McLoud resident Donn Bay Boatwright, 55, died Saturday, Feb. 10, in McLoud.

Donn enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1970 and served for 24 years before retiring in 1994 from Tinker Air Force Base as First Sergeant. After retirement he was employed by Boeing Corp. As Surveillance Section Manager for the E-3 Mission Crew. Donn served in the military at many Air Force Bases worldwide.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, McLoud, where he served as Minister of Education and taught the College/Career class for eight years. Donn was ordained as a minister at Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church in 1986. He was a member of the Oklahoma Jail and Prison Ministry, where he ministered and taught at the Boley and McAlester facilities for 24 years. Donn and Irene were both members of the Noble Bee Keepers Association in Noble, Okla. He traveled on several mission trips to Africa, Dominica, South Dakota, and Matamoros, Mexico.

He was an avid outdoorsman, interested in hunting and fishing. He also was a licensed pilot. He loved his family and relished family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his father, Doyle Jene Boatwright.

George E. "Newt" Compton

Shawnee resident George E. "Newt" Compton, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 10, at a local hospital.
He was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Francis, Okla., to George Thomas and Maggie Agnes (Goodman) Compton.

He entered the Navy in 1943 and served his country until April of 1946. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Wasp in the Pacific Fleet.

On June 23, 1946, he married Naomi Daley in Shawnee.

He was a Fuel Control Supervisor at Tinker Air Force Base and retired in 1987.

He received his honorary high school diploma from Bethel High School in 2001. He was a member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church and the VFW. He lived in Shawnee most of his life. George's greatest joy was his family. He loved watching his children and grandchildren compete in sporting events and he loved the Oklahoma Sooners. His pastimes included gardening, hunting and fishing.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Howard and Lucien Compton; sister, Bessie Wooten; mother-in-law, Pearl Daley and father-in-law, Charles Daley.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Naomi Compton of the home; daughter, Darla Clements and husband, Bill, of Lindsay; three sons, Russell Compton and wife, Lisa, of Arlington, Texas, Terry Compton and wife, Sherry, of Shawnee, and Jerry Compton and wife, Lisa, of Owasso; grandchildren, Jason Clements and wife, Sasha, Bridget Furnish and husband, Justin, Nick Clements and wife, Jen, Carie Moore and husband, Michael, Rusty Harrelson and husband, Matt, Jarrod Compton and wife, Kelley, Jillian Compton, Susannah Compton, Miles Compton, Nathan Compton, Jason Pettigrew, Asa Pettigrew and Aulia Claytor; great-grandchildren, Logan Furnish, Londyn Furnish, Will Clements, Reese Clements, Nicole Moore, Will Moore, Skylar Harrelson and Zoe Dees; sister, Elsie Farris; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Service was held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery .


James "Jimmy" Earl Hodgin

Oklahoma City resident James "Jimmy" Earl Hodgin, 65, died Friday, Feb. 9, in Oklahoma City.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Box Cemetery in Vian with the Rev. Dwayne Davis officiating.

Juanita E. Strawn

Juanita E. Strawn died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007 after a short illness.
She was born May 23, 1910, to Elsie and Laura Strawn in Shawnee, OK. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1927 and attended Oklahoma Baptist University for two years. She graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1932 with a degree in Education.

She taught in Shawnee for 13 years then moved to New Mexico where she taught in Carlsbad and Roswell until she retired in 1970. She returned to Shawnee in 1991. In 1999 she moved to Norman, OK where she lived the rest of her life. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Juanita will be lovingly remembered by her family and those who knew her for her love and kindness, quiet strength, generosity, and sweet, sweet spirit.

Surviving are niece, Linda Garms and husband, Don, of the home; niece Cheryl Malone and husband, Jim, of Stillwater; great-nephew, Justin Malone and wife, Billie, their daughter, Megan, of Stillwater; great-niece, Mandy Malone and her daughter, Madisyn, of Tulsa.

Juanita was laid to rest during a private family burial according to her wishes on Feb. 13, 2007. We will miss Juanita very much she will live in our hearts.


Juanita J. Fleming

Shawnee resident Juanita J. Fleming, died Sunday, Feb. 11, at Unity North Hospital.
Juanita was born July 5, 1927, in Shawnee to Julia and James Daley.

She grew up in Shawnee and went to school at Shawnee High where she met and married her one and only love, Otis Fleming, who passed away in 1999.

Juanita is survived by her daughter, Rita Varaksin of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Mickey Fleming of Shawnee; one granddaughter and husband, Crystle and Darrin Taylor of Noble; three grandsons, Billy Varaksin of Maryland, Jimmy Varaksin of Shawnee, Ricky Fleming of California; one sister and brother-in-law, Iva Jean and Howard King of Eufaula; and six great-grandchildren, Amber, Jessica, Haley, Jimmy, Anthony and Kialey.

Visitation will be today from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. George Lupton officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Clarence Harrison Brewer

McLoud resident Clarence Harrison Brewer, 87, died Monday, Feb. 12, at a Midwest City hospital.
He was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Oklahoma City to Jesse A. Brewer Sr. And Agnes (Kratky).

Mr. Brewer served in the U.S. Army. He also served in and retired from the U.S. Air Force and later was a Pinkerton Agent. While in the military he was assigned to protect the canal in Panama and was one of the first to have jungle training. The regiment took the name "Bushmasters." From there he served in many other areas including Brisbane, Australia, New Guinea, Kiriwina, Woodlark, Goodenough Islands and Arawe. He was a life member of the V.F.W. And was an avid sportsman.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Jesse A. Brewer Jr.; one sister, Alta Lee.

Survivors include three children, Norman P. Brewer and wife, Carolyn, of McLoud, Evelyn J. Goode and husband, Chuck, of Edmond and Ron Brewer of Oklahoma City; one granddaughter, Cristi Jordan of Stillwater; longtime friend, Jack Penn of Oklahoma City.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Thelma V. Greeling Duran

Thelma V. Greeling Duran, age 89, passed from this life on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007.
Born on December 21, 1917, in Shawnee to A.R. (Ted) Greeling and Lillie May Hunter Greeling.

Thelma had resided in Antioch, Calif., where she raised her family and worked as a cook. She returned to Oklahoma in 1999. Thelma was a lifetime member of Redmans and V.F.W. In California and volunteered in Shawnee with Operation Christmas and Project H.E.A.R.T. Delivering meals. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Shawnee.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, William "Pete" Tate and Sib Duran; son and daughter-in-law, William 'Red' Tate and Jo Ann Tate; son, George "Butch" Tate; granddaughter, Elizabeth Tate; six brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Karen Tate of Antioch, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Maddy Tate of Oakley, Calif.; sisters, Elva Roark of Wichita Falls, Texas, Ellen (Skip) Blalock and Dean and D.B. Jones of Shawnee; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee.

Midwest City resident Edward Charles Spoon Sr., 57, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, in Oklahoma City.
Viewing will be 3 p.m. To 8 p.m. Today at Walker Funeral Service. A wake service will be held Friday evening at Sac and Fox Traditional House in Stroud. Burial will be at Wakolee Cemetery on Saturday.

Linda Grace Passailaigue

San Antonio resident Linda Grace Passailaigue, 57, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13.
She was born Sept. 15, 1949, to Clarence Preston and Jimmie Marie (Richardson) Campbell in Stratford, Okla.

She was employed with the Texas Department of Transportation.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Anthony Campbell; brother, Kenneth Campbell; and sister, Glenda Dean Campbell.

Linda is survived by her husband of more than 20 years, Ted G. Passailaigue; six children, Yvette Adamson, Teresa McCloud, Saundra Passailaigue, Trisha Passailaigue Brown, Gary W. Passailaigue and Cheryl Gilliland; parents, Mr. And Mrs. Clarence Campbell; two brothers, Preston Campbell and Joseph Campbell; three sisters, Brenda Smith, Gwinda Baxter, and Cinda Fowler; and 17 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m.-7p.m., Friday at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy., San Antonio, Texas.

Service will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the Sunset Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

John Lloyd Tarver

John Lloyd Tarver died suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 11, at his home in Oklahoma City. He was 36.
He was born Jan. 4, 1971, in Okinawa, Japan.

He graduated from Norman High School and attended the University of Houston

John was a remarkable person who touched many lives through his gifts of friendship and acceptance. He never knew a stranger. He had a passion for life and was a staunch Democrat, and worked as a volunteer for the Democratic Party.

John leaves behind his parents, Charles and Patricia Tarver of Tecumseh; his brother, Charles Tarver of Tecumseh; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Rick and Marci Johnson of Tecumseh and David and Terri Hudlow of Tecumseh. John had five nephews, Ricky Johnson, Patrick and Dana Johnson, Jeremiah and Brianne Johnson, Daniel Judkins and Charlie Tarver; and one great-niece, Shelby Johnson. John left behind a multitude of friends and family. He will be sorely missed.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery


Patricia Kay Forehand

Meeker resident Patricia Kay Forehand departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 14, in Ada at the age of 61.
She was born Dec. 28, 1945, in Purcell to Joseph Cornelius and Dollie Iris (Higbee) Black.

On March 31, 1973, she married Larry B. Forehand. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1990.

Patricia was a homemaker.

Her parents and one brother also preceded Patricia in death.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Tim Holik of Prague and Scherry and Ray McNeal of Meeker; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Christine Forehand of Oklahoma City; brothers, Bubby Black of Colorado, Bill Black of Utah and Terry Black of Lexington; sisters, Margaret Watkins of Lexington, Barbara Tate of Norman and Carla Shelton of Wanette; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Until 8 p.m. Today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker.

Everett P. Showalter

Oklahoma City resident Everett P. Showalter, 87, died Monday, Feb. 12, in Shawnee.
He was born Oct. 17, 1919, to William A. And Katherine (Bishop) Showalter in Neodesha, Kan. Born and raised in Neodesha he joined the military on his 18th birthday. He served four years in the Army as a cook. He returned to live in California for 23 years, moving to Oklahoma City in 1967 where he made his home.

On March 24, 1981, he married Elsie (Childress) McClanahan n Tecumseh.

He retired from Dayton, Bridgestone Tire after working 17 years. He then worked for Wal-Mart as a greeter, as well as working at TG&Y and a convenience store in Edmond. He enjoyed yard work, and always being busy. He was a member of the Masons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Allen Showalter and Lester Showalter; and a sister, Hazel Pebble.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Showalter of Shawnee; two daughters, Kathy and Susan, both of California; step-daughter, Donna McCoy and her husband, Fred, of Garland, Texas; step-son, Robert McClanahan and his wife, Jan, of Oklahoma City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Earnie Deeds officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
