Roland Louis Jordan

Shawnee resident Roland Louis Jordan, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 28, at his home.
He was born November 3, 1921 to Roy and Cordie Jordan in St. Louis, Ok.

Jordan graduated from St. Louis High School and received a basketball scholarship. He attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

On Oct. 13, 1978, he married Rose Aline Wright in California.

He was an Air Force pilot during World War II.

Jordan was the assistant district supervisor of Southern California Gas Company of Visalia, Calif., where he retired after 32 years.

He was a member of of the Southern California Gas Gun and Rod Club.

Jordan enjoyed fishing, hunting, and telling big fish tales. He also enjoyed being the greatest cook on the patio. He loved life and being with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and one grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Rosie Aline Jordan of the home; two daughters, Sharon Nichols of California, and Nancy and her husband, David Bernard of Poteau; three sons, Terry Don and his wife, Barbara of New Jersey, Steve and his wife, Linda of Colorado, and Tommy Wright and his wife, Joy of Shawnee; two brothers, Dwight Jordan and his wife, Evelyn, and Neal Jordan and his wife, Joanne, all of California; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Further information is pending with Walker Funeral Service.

Cecil Narcomey

Tulsa resident Cecil "Fuzzy" Narcomey, 69, died Saturday, Jan. 28, at Hillcrest Specialty Hospital, Tulsa.
Wake service was held Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Mekusukey Baptist Church with the Rev. Dorsey Nero officiating. Burial will follow at Tate Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Charles "Sonny" Daley

Charles "Sonny" Daley, 73, of Shawnee died Saturday, Jan. 28, at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Daley was born March 8, 1932, in Shawnee, the son of Charley Russell "C.R." Daley and Pearl Shaw Daley.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1950.

On Oct. 25, 1989, he married Lou Cornelius in Shawnee.

Daley was a retired dairy farmer.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1976, his mother in 2000 and his wife, Virginia, in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Lou Cornelius Daley, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Charles and Anna Daley of Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and George Compton of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Scott Daley and Brandy Daley, both of Shawnee, and Cory Daley of Tecumseh; seven great-grandchildren, Riana Daley, Sara Daley, Gina Daley, and Kasey Daley, all of Shawnee, Cori Daley and Dani Daley, both of Tecumseh, and Cade Daley of Oklahoma City.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Harrah resident Charles Jackson "Jack" Morgan, 73, died Monday, Jan 30, in Oklahoma City.

Edith Short

Shawnee resident Edith Short, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, at a local nursing home.
She was born September 6, 1915 in Lincoln County to Vernie and Lettie Brasiel.

On July 4, 1937 she married Douglas Jones in Shawnee, he preceded her in death in 1942. She later remarried to Ollie Short on March 13, 1948 in Shawnee, and he also preceded her in death in 1990.

Edith was a member of the Mammoth Baptist Church and later Aydelotte Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one son, J.D. Jones; one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include three children, Sarah Jones of Shawnee, the Rev. Bob Jones and his wife, Gloria of Lawton, and Norene Hayes of Shawnee; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Aydelotte Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Teel, associate pastor of Cameron Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Jamison Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Ralph M. White

Harrah resident Ralph M. White, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Harrah.
He was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Jones. He resided in Harrah and surrounding communities all his life and attended Choctaw and Harrah schools.

On Sept. 12, 1934, he married Zenobia Koonce. They were married 71 years.

Together they managed a successful vegetable farm and market for more than 40 years. Generous in their contributions to the community and church, they gave two acres to the senior citizens to build the Harrah Senior Citizen Center and part of their land was developed into a nursing center and senior housing.

White was preceded in death by his parents, Miller E. and Bessie M. (Osborn) White; wife, Zenobia; one daughter, Helen Pitman; one brother, George E. White; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mable Schisler, Wilma and Mike Farino, and Minnie and Charlie Dike.

Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolyn and Theodore Willis of Elk City, Truman Pitman of Miami, Okla., Shirley and John Frost of McLoud, Judy White of Colorado, and Bette Davies of Colorado; one sister-in-law, Anna Lee White; one brother-in-law, Wayne Schisler of Texas; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Harrah United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.

Donations in lieu of flowers are requested to be made to the Angelic Family Hospice, 421 N. Beard, Shawnee, Ok; or the Harrah United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Mildred Isabel Wilhelm

Mildred Isabel Wilhelm, 86, died Monday, Jan. 30, in Seminole.
She was born Sept. 7, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Betty (Ballard) Sanders. She married Thomas Jefferson Wilhelm. Mildred spent most of her life as a housewife. She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Shawnee and she enjoyed planting flowers and trees, spending time outdoors and visiting the senior center with her friends.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and four brothers.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Resthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Buck Raymond Willingham

Drumright resident Buck Raymond Willingham, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, in Drumright.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Stroud with the Rev. Keith Cole officiating. Burial will follow a Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services in Stroud.

J.B. King

Stratford resident J.B. King, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, at a local hospital.

He was born to Jesse Taylor and Sarah Ellen Bowden King in Hart on Feb. 25, 1924. He attended school at Vanoss.

On April 3, 1943 he married Grace McCauley in Sulphur.

King enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served in the Southwest Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was employed as a shipping supervisor with Ideal Cement from 1946 until his retirement in 1977.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

King is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Richard King; one daughter, Jayne Lea King Dunkin; two brothers, Alfred King and Bill King; and three sisters, Jessie King McNair, Lura Crawford and Nova Kifer.

Survivors include his wife, Grace King of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Grace Ann and Archie Russ of Konawa, Gayla Jan and Rusty Tucker of Bethel; one son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Connie King of Stratford; ten grandchildren, Gary King, Jr., Starla King, Christina Mezzell, Kimberly Hoffman, Angie Gentry and her husband Scott, Annette Villines and her husband Bobby, Amy Eropkin and her husband Mike, Jennifer King, Jayson King, and Jessica Taylor Tucker; eight great-grandchildren, Colton and Shelby Gentry, Hannah and Sarah Villines, Kelsey and Brandon Eropkin, Kaylee White and Blakely Mezzell; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Central Church of Christ with Vance Smith, James Kifer and Bobby Villines officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. Arrangments are under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home in Ada.

Bearers will be Jay King, Archie Russs, Rusty Tucker, Jayson King, Mike Eropkin and Scott Gentry. Honorary bearers will be Marion Chambers, H.A. Blackburn, Charles Barrick, Johnny Mann, Tom Stephens, Wayne King, and Ted Eberle.

McLoud resident Charlie "CW" Buchanan, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, in Shawnee.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Black Cemetery with David Wooten officiating.

Cleona Mann

Norman resident Cleona (Gibson) Mann, 72, died Friday, Feb. 3, in Norman.
She was born Feb. 20, 1933, in Little Axe to Willie and Sally Bob Gibson.

Mann spent most of her life in the Little Axe area.

She attended Little Axe and Pawnee Indian School (Gravy U).

On Oct. 18, 1955, she married Melvin Johnny Mann in Little Axe.

She worked at a dry cleaners. She served on the Elders Council of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and was a member of The Native American Church in Little Axe.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Offie Gibson and a brother, Richard Gibson.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin Johnny Mann, of the home; three daughters, Sally Mann, Wanda Shoptease and Vera Gibson, all of Little Axe; six sons, Jim Gibson of Little Axe, Glen Mann of Choctaw, Cecil Mann of Little Axe, John Edward Mann of Shawnee, Raymond Mann and Richard Mann of Norman; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Isaac Gibson of Little Axe, Delbert Gibson of Sapulpa and Harvey Gibson of Tonkawa.

A wake service will be held Saturday afternoon at the family home. Service will be 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Absentee Shawnee Burial Grounds, Little Axe, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Mary Ann Butts

Former Shawnee resident Mary Ann Butts, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, at her home in Grand Prairie, Texas.
She was born Sept. 12, 1941, in Effingham County, Ill., to Richard and Gwendolyn Smith.

Butts was a longtime resident of Irving, Texas, until moving to Shawnee for 10 years, then she moved back to Grand Prairie in 2005.

She was a retired school teacher with the Irving ISD where she taught school at Nimitz High School for more than 25 years.

Butts was preceded in death by her husband, James Butts.

Survivors include her loving friends and caretakers, Kirby and Gwynn Shelton of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother-in-law, Bill Butts of Luther; four sisters-in-law, Verna Dean, Rosa MeNeely and Mary Crooks, all of Shawnee, and Alma Butts-Levin of Elicott City, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 2 p.m thru 4 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Funeral Home in Irving, Texas. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Blackburn Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Calvary Funeral Home, Irving, Texas.

Stroud resident Hubert Ray Willingham, 81, died Friday, Feb. 3, in Chandler.

James Louis Whitt

James "Jim" Louis Whitt, 81, longtime Seminole resident, died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Norman Regional Hospital.

Jim was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Stroud to Rosco B. and Drusilla Maye (Worthington) Whitt. Both preceded him in death.

Jim married Thelma Mae Russell Dec. 25, 1943. They had been married 62 years and had lived in Seminole since 1946.

He graduated from Lawton High School and joined the Air Force where he made sergeant as a gunner on a B24.

He was past president of the Band Club and Lions Club in Seminole. He is a former member of the Seminole Bass Club and Fellowship Class of the First United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed his volunteer work at the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Whitt of the home; one daughter, Jeanne (Whitt) Terry of Seminole; son, Tommy Whitt and his wife, Tena, of Seminole; three grandsons, Ryan Terry of Seminole and Eric and T.J. Whitt of Seminole; granddaughter, Saundra (Whitt) Thompson of Jennings, and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Seminole. Burial will follow at Stroud Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral home of Seminole. Viewing will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until service time Monday.

Casket bearers will be Eric Whitt, Ryan Terry, T.J. Whitt, John Thompson, Shane Richardson and Caleb Whitt. Honorary casket bearers will be Leon Freeman, Claude Cornelison, Buster Wilcox, Herb Gunter, Bob Webster and Bob Lennard.

Jewel D. McMahan

Jewel D. McMahan, 69, of Tecumseh died Thursday, Feb. 2, in Shawnee.

She was born May 12, 1936, in Shawnee to Jess and Viola (Treat) Potter. She was raised in Coolidge, Ariz., where she attended school. She moved back to Oklahoma in 1954 and has since been a resident of the Tecumseh and Shawnee areas.

She married Ernie D. McMahan Jan. 27, 1956, in Tecumseh.

She worked as a nurses' aide at Mission Hill Hospital and was a caretaker at Angel's Acres for 12 years. She served as the "neighborhood mother" for the local children.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 10, 1998, her parents and a brother, Eugene Potter.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and David Young of Tecumseh; two sons, Rick McMahan and James McMahan, both of Tecumseh; four grandchildren, Amy McMahan, Dug McMahan, Jamy McMahan and Angie Stuteville and her husband, Wade; a great-grandson, Wyatt Stuteville; a special friend, Beverly Chapline of Shawnee, and several special neighborhood kids and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home with Harvey Spear and Jimmy Heard officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

The McMahan family will gather at the Tecumseh Housing Authority, 601 Leisure Lane, following the service.

Fay L. (Hughes) Crosby

Fay L. (Hughes) Crosby, 71, of Earlsboro died Friday, Feb. 3, in Shawnee.
She was born Nov. 14, 1934, in Ray City to Roy Jackson and Ruby Nora (Pollard) Hughes. She lived most of her life in Pottawatomie County in Ray City, Maud, Shawnee and Earlsboro. She was a graduate of Maud High School.

She married Joe M. Crosby Aug. 29, 1958, at the Church of Christ in Shawnee. He preceded her in death in 1998.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Tinker Air Force Base, the Sylvania Electric Plant, the United Methodist Day Care in Seminole and as an LPN at Mission Hill.

She was a member of the Earlsboro Booster Club, the Pottawatomie County Genealogy Club and the Earlsboro Clown Troop, and she was a 4-H Club leader in Earlsboro.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Joey Crosby in 1972; her parents, and two brothers, Joe Hughes and Ray Hughes.

Survivors include her sister, Nora Cole of Drumright; her brother, Homer Hughes of Shreveport, La.; four nephews, Joe Hughes, Jerry Hughes, both of Houston, Texas; Roy Cole of Oklahoma City and John Hughes of Shreveport; two nieces, Sharon Davenport of Houston and Tanja Kennedy of Maine; special friends, Don and Karen Meshew, Joe and Amber Curtis, all of Shawnee, and many friends and extended family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh with Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

Justine Regina GoodChief Rice

Tecumseh resident Justine Regina GoodChief Rice passed from this life Friday, Feb. 3, at her home. She was 64.
She was born July 22, 1941, in Pawnee to Robert GoodChief and Elizabeth Justice GoodChief.

On Nov. 30, 1961, she married Norman F. Rice Sr. in Pawnee.

She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses at the Tecumseh Congregation in Shawnee.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Justice GoodChief; grandparents, Dollie Moore and Will Justice, Hiram and Jennie GoodChief; two brothers, Vance HorseChief Jr. and Robert GoodChief; two sisters, Darwina V. GoodChief Yellowmule and Christine M. Gladys Johnny Mae Alexander

Shawnee resident Gladys Johnny Mae Alexander passed on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at her home.
She was born Aug. 30, 1933, to George and Ethel Coats.

She was a retired healthcare provider for the handicapped and elderly.

Preceding her in death were her father, George Coats; mother, Ethel Rains; stepfather, Bert Raines; husband, Herbert Alexander; brother, Ray Coats; and sister, Joyce Lynch.

Survivors include three daughters, Tammy and Jeff Alexander of Shawnee, Alene and Johnny Davis of Shawnee, Jane and Steve Stevenson of Tecumseh; four sisters, Mary Everett of Saint Louis, Fay and Bobby Loving of Wewoka, Nellie and Wendell Lennings of Wewoka, Juanita Thrillkill of Missouri; one brother, Reid Coats of California; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Carolyn Haffey and Heartland Hospice for their loving care.

Kathy Curtis

Ada resident Kathy Curtis, 51, died Sunday, Feb. 5, in Shawnee.
She was born Sept. 4, 1954 and spent most of her life in the Tecumseh area and had lived in Ada for the past several years. She attended Tecumseh schools.

Curtis was as secretary for ODOT in Ada. She loved her grandson Curtis, very much and enjoyed spending time with him.

She was preceded in death by her father, J.E. Anders.

Survivors include her parents, Jim and Faye Kinsey of Antlers; two daughters, Kelly Taron of Tecumseh and Audrea Curtis of Ryan; grandson, Curtis Taron of Tecumseh; one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Cletus Motley of Florida; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Tom Anders and his son, Jake of Montana, Don and Marilyn Kinsey of Washington, and Terry and Rhonda Kinsey of Antlers; several aunts, uncles and extended family.

A celebration of life will be today at the home of Donnie and Polly Hill.

Virgie Irene Lyle

Shawnee resident Virgie Irene Lyle, 90, died Thursday, Feb. 2 in Oklahoma City.
She was born Sept. 6, 1915 in Shawnee to George and Ella Margaret Riley.

On Dec. 25, 1935 she married Leighton Samuel Lyle in McLoud.

Lyle worked at Sylvania Electric many years ago.

She is preceded in death by her husband, July, 13, 1979, and her brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Billie and Billy Stout of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Elder Doug McLin officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Earline Townsend

Houston resident Earline Townsend, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 2, in Oklahoma City.
She was born August 4, 1930, in Asher to Earl and Emma Hiser. She graduated from Asher High School.

On April 17, 1953, she married Percy Townsend in Asher.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Vinita Hoover.

Shawnee resident Dwight James Cotton, 59, went to be with his Father in Heaven Sunday.
He was born March 4, 1946, in Shawnee to James T. Cotton and Pauline A. (McCoin) Adams.

He attended Shawnee and Tribbey schools.

He married Janis Bugg on Dec. 8, 1972, in Tarrant County, Texas.

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base, and was a skilled carpenter and mechanic.

He was a member of Day Star Baptist Church.

He lived in Shawnee most of his life, and he loved to ride his Harley.

He is preceded in death by his father, who died when Dwight was 5 years old.

Survivors include: His wife, Janis, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Keri Cotton of Shawnee; a granddaughter, Ryan Nicole Cotton of Shawnee; a daughter, Terri Cotton of Germany; two step sons, Rondy Flick and Steve Pangle of Shawnee; his mother, Pauline Adams of Shawnee; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Paula Cotton of Double Oak, Texas, Steven and Carmen Eagles of Tulsa and Paul and Tammy Bengle of Tulsa; a sister, Pam Pritchard of Shawnee; five nieces, Lorry Royal and her husband, Kevin, of Pecan Gap, Texas, Cheryl Cotton of Dallas, Texas, Brittyn Pritchard of Shawnee, Johnny Pritchard of Shawnee and Allison Eagles of Tulsa; and a good friend, Will Beard of Shawnee.

Edith Stewart

Ponca City resident Edith Stewart, 99, met her Lord and Savior Thursday, Feb. 2, at Ponce City Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 29, 1906, in El Reno to Newton Jasper and Mary Maude Wiley Sickles. She received her education at El Reno and Shawnee.

On Jan. 31, 1924, she married Lee Powell. They made their home in Tecumseh.

In the 1940s she worked at Douglas Aircraft as a riveter. She later moved to Ponca City where she worked as a waitress at Jens Marie Coffee Shop, Arcade Coffee Shop, Little Kastle Cafe, Continental Cafeteria and 11 years as a lab technician at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She married Ray Stewart March 1, 1947, in Winfield, Kan. He preceded her in death April 1, 1977.

Her hobbies were crocheting, knitting, reading, sewing and playing the piano. She was a charter member at Southside Baptist Church where she was the pianist for 20 years.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, husband, three brothers, one sister and one son, Don Powell.

Survivors include four daughters, Frances Jones of Shawnee, Barbara Lyons of Springfield, Ore., Mary Fisher of Ponca City, Bonnie Newlin and her husband, Larry , of Ponca City; two sons, Varner Gordon Powell of Vacaville, Calif., Gary Powell of Shawnee; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday at Odd Fellows Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Graham officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.

C.J. Fredman

C.J. Fredman, 85, of McLoud died Monday, Feb. 6, at a Midwest City hospital.
Fredman was born April 17, 1920, in Sparks to Charlie and Maude (Kenyon) Fredman.

He graduated from Sparks High School and Okmulgee Tech.

He married Mary Long Dec. 5, 1942, in Chandler.

He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was a radar technician at Tinker Air Force Base until retiring June 4, 1979.

He was a member of the McLoud Church of Christ where he served as treasurer for more than 30 years.

He was a beloved father and family man.

Survivors include his wife Mary of the home; three chidren, Mary Charlene and husband Charles Wooten of McLoud, Ginny Lee Fredman of McLoud and Rick and wife Tracy Fredman of Wellston; seven grandchildren, Mike and Cara Wooten, Candy Wooten, Ricky Wooten, Shannon and Ashley Fredman, Shawna Fredman, Alex Fredman and Mariah Fredman; eight great-grandchildren, Jessie Wooten, Austin Wooten, Michael Wooten, Shane Wooten, Kasey Rice, Rikki Wooten, Jacob Wooten and Maycee Spain.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at McLoud Church of Christ with Wayne Price and Jerry Dowell officiating.

Newton James Pritchett

Shawne resident Newton James Pritchett, 86, died Monday, Feb. 6, at a local hospital.
He was born in Fort Cobb on July 28, 1919, to Florence (Dickinson) Pritchett and Thomas Joshua Pritchett.

Newton attended Fort Cobb schools, graduating in 1937. He attended Oklahoma State A&M College (OSU) where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

On Jan. 25, 1942, he married Helen Louise Zurmehly in Shawnee.

He served in the 161st Infantry of the 25th (Tropical Lightening) Division during World War II for three continuous years of combat in the Southwest Pacific theatre on the Soloman Islands and in the Philippines. He was wounded four times and received the Purple Heart Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years; serving the last 17 years as a rural mail carrier before retiring Aug. 31, 1979.

Newton was active in the youth baseball programs in Shawnee for many years. He helped organize the Colt World Series in the 1960s which brought teams from coast-to-coast to Shawnee. He also coached Pee Wee and Midget teams in the 1950s. He was a partner in the C&N Sport Shop.

He is a past president of the Shawnee Redbud Kiwanis Club, member of the Diamond K Kiawanis Club of Shawnee, The American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, AARP and N.A.R.F.E. He has been an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church for 60 years where he has held many administrative offices including chairman of the administrative board, board of trustees and Sunday School superintendent.

His parents; brother, Thomas; sisters, Gladys Roberts and Jennie B. Scholder preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Alison Pritchett of Shawnee; grandson, Travis Austin Pritchett of College Station, Texas; granddaughter and husband, Tara and Ruben Rocha of Spanish Fork, Utah; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles and Jo Zurmehly of Shawnee, Clyde and Jean Zurmehly of Norman; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Family will greet visitors Friday evening 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Yvette Lucille Kranz

Yvette Lucille Kranz was born Jan. 31, in Lowell, Mass., she passed away Feb. 7, in Dallas.
She was one of nine children born to Charles Edward and Margaret Pinot Cambray.

Yvette married Dwight D. Kranz, Dec. 3, 1942, in Watertown, NY. Shortly after, she moved to Alva to be with his family while Dwight served in the Army during World War II. She also made her home in Germany, Washington, and Fort Sill throughout her life. She and her husband retired in Shawnee.

She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Yvette was a wonderful mother and enjoyed her grandchildren. Her infectious smile and love for life will always be remembered. She had numerous friends and the last years of her life were spent in Dallas, Texas with her children.

She is survived by her son, Dwight Kranz, Jr. and his wife, Helen; daughters, Deborah Sue Kranz, Mellisia Kay Webb, and Renee Nanette Saulnier and her husband, Steven Kent Saulnier; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Frontier Chapel in Lawton/Fort Sill. Opal Anoatubby

Ada resident Opal Faye Anoatubby, 93, died Monday, Feb. 6, at a local nursing home.
She was born Aug. 21, 1912, in Greenville, Texas, to Erve and Bertha Day Mitchell.

On July 12, 1929, she married Joseph Anoatubby. They had six children.

Most of her married life was spent in Oklahoma.

On Aug. 12, 1948, while living in Denison, Texas, Joseph passed away. Opal then moved her family to Tishomingo and then in 1978 moved to Ada.

She was a homemaker and a member of Byng Free Will Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Joan Manning of Ada; and a son-in-law, Clarence Manning of Shawnee.

Survivors include one daughter, Othalee Manning of Shawnee; four sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Phyllis Anoatubby of Gowen, Russel and Diann Anoatubby of Ardmore, Teddy and Barbara Anoatubby of Moore, and Bill and Janice Anoatubby of Ada; one son-in-law, James Manning and his wife, Barbara, of Ada; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Service was 10 a.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada and the Rev. Gene Anoatubby officiated. Burial followed at the Tishomingo City Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.

Bearers were her six grandsons, Joe Anoatubby, Randall Anoatubby, Chris Anoatubby, Brian Anoatubby, Michael Manning and Jimmy Manning.

Oklahoma City resident Judy K. Fairless, 72, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8.

She was born June 16, 1933, to O.L. and Dorothy Crawford of Shawnee.

Judy was a graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic High School in Wichita, Kan.

On March 21, 1953, she married David S. Fairless.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Rick Fairless; and daughter Nancy Fairless.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Kathy Lodes and her husband, Tim; grandchildren, Kyle O'Donley, Megan Lodes and Emily Lodes; sister-in-law, Patty Lillard and her husband, Chris, of Shawnee; nieces, Tia Wallace and her husband, Jim, of Colorado, Mari Fairchild of Shawnee, Lauren Moore and her husband, Sean, of Illinois, and Matt Haney of Norman; several great nieces, nephews and many friends.

Charles R. Quinton Effinger

Shawnee resident Charles "Chuck" R. Quinton Effinger, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 9, of natural causes at a local nursing home.

He was born May 21, 1932, in Crowder to Charles Richard Effinger and Leona Pierce.

He attended school in Shawnee and served in the U.S. Army.

He retired from Southwestern Athletic and was a member of Shawnee V.F.W. Post 1317.

He enjoyed fishing.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Tilman, Chester, Arie and Troy Effinger; sisters, Helen Mankins, Bonnie Shromberg and Iola Schrock.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Artie and Betty Effinger of Shawnee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and James Young of Yukon, Dorothy Nicholas of Enid, Ella Berry of Sacramento, Calif.

Peggy Ann Duncan

Peggy Ann Duncan, 83, of Shawnee died Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Oklahoma City.

She was born on November 27, 1922 in Biloxi, Miss., to John and Maggie (Smith) Cowie.

Duncan was born in Biloxi, Miss., and raised in Los Angeles, Calif. She married Roy Wayne Duncan on June 17, 1946, at Bremerton Naval Base in Bremerton, Wash. She spent the rest of her life moving around from Washington to Alaska, California and Nebraska before moving to Golden Rule Nursing Home in Shawnee, where she resided for the last nine months.

She loved writing, bingo and crafts. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bahai faith. She was loved by all and will be missed very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers: Alex Cowie and George Cowie; one sister, Mary Fuller; one daughter, Yolinda Duncan; a granddaughter: Valerie Duncan; and a son-in-law, Robert Walker.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Walker of Lincoln, Neb., Eileen and Cliff Ewing of Earlsboro; three sons and one daughter-in-law, John Duncan of Fort Bragg, Calif., David and Carol Duncan of Medford and Robert Duncan of San Luis Obispo, Calif; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two brothers, David and John Cowie.

Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Tecumseh Cemetery. Larry Chesser Jr. will be officiating and the Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh is in charge of the arrangements.

Merle Dean Lewis Sr.

Seminole resident Merle Dean Lewis Sr. died Friday, Feb 10, of natural causes at his residence.

Lewis was born June 10, 1937, in Shawnee to Glen A. Lewis and Iva McGlasson.

He attended Shawnee schools and married Bertha Mae Wolf-Lewis on May 10, 1965, in Seminole.

Lewis was retired from U.S. Army. He served during the Korean conflict.

He delivered Meals on Wheels for Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Project Heart.

Lewis was preceded in death by both parents and his stepfather, Gib Tripp and a brother, Ivan Lewis.

Survivors include his wife Bertha Wolf-Lewis of the home; three sons: Merle D. Lewis Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Hobbs, N.M., Marvin L. Lewis and wife, Patsy, of Seminole and Thomas G. Lewis of Hobbs, N.M.; two daughters, Mary A. Spurlin and husband, Flint, of Shawnee and Staci L. Duggan and husband, Bobby Sr. of Seminole; a twin brother, Marvin G. Lewis of Hobbs, N.M.; four sisters, LaWanda Hamm and husband, Charles, of Big Springs, Texas, Ida Lou Morgan of Shawnee, Glenda Timmons and husband, Rufus, of Breckenridge, Texas, and Deloris Albert and husband, Glen, of Big Springs, Texas; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kenneth "Kenny" Eugene Nance

Kenneth "Kenny" Eugene Nance passed away Friday, Feb. 10, at his home in Seminole at the age of 49.

Nance was born July 3, 1956, in Madera, Calif., to Betty Lois (Jones) Nance and Robert Eugene Nance.

He moved to Seminole from California 37 years ago. He worked at TDK in Shawnee for many years. Nance later went to work at Seminole High School and was custodian for several years retiring in 2003 due to his illness.

He served in the U.S. Army. He received an honorable discharge on Sept. 30, 1981.

He was a member of Peoples Community Church in Seminole.

Kenny is survived by his parents, Robert and Lois Nance of Seminole; one sister and brother-in-law, Cindi and Doug Shivers of Yukon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Sharon Nance of Tishomingo and Jeff and Naoma Nance of Seminole; 10 nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Little Cemetery. J.C. Simpson will be officiating.

Honorary bearers wil be Casey Phillips, Roger Williams, Jim Choate, Larry Harris, Allen Harris and Jim Moreland.

Eloise Price

Tulsa resident Eloise Price was born in Meridian on Aug. 14, 1934, and departed this life in Tulsa on Friday, Feb. 10 at the age of 71 years.
Eloise was the daughter of Arthur and Essie (Williams) Graham. Eloise was a resident of Tulsa since 2000, moving from Stroud.

She was a member of the Summit Park Full Gospel Church in Tulsa and was a homemaker.

She married Ray Price Nov. 1, 1952, in Chandler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Ray, of the home; one son, Clarence Price and wife, Rita, of Sapulpa; one daughter, Alta Tuttle and husband, John, of Kellyville; two brothers: Roger Graham of Perkins and Tommy Graham of Perkins; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service Stroud.

Helen Ann Plowman

Former Shawnee resident Helen Ann Plowman, 99, died Sunday, Feb. 12, in Oklahoma City.
She was born August 15, 1906, in Wetumka.

On August 22, 1921, she married Willard Plowman in Shawnee.

Helen's hobbies of pastry cooking and flora culture were well known in the community. She was everyone's "mother" or "grandmother", she was loved and respected wherever she went.

She and her husband raised their children in Shawnee and she attended University Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, W.W. Plowman and a son, Jack D. Plowman.

Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Bill and Ella Mae Plowman of Houston, Texas, and Dr. Paul E. Plowman of Oklahoma City; daughter-in-law, Delores Plowman; sister, Lucille Haile of Amarillo, Texas; half sister, Marie Henderson; and 29 grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bob Searl officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service. The Plowman family will be receiving friends one hour before the service. The casket will remain open until the time of service and will not be opened after.

Pearl Scott King

Tecumseh resident Pearl Scott King, 92, died Saturday, Feb.11, in Shawnee.
She was born March 19, 1913, to John and Virginia (Bartlett) Reeves in Cleveland County. She also resided in the Romulus area for many years and in Tecumseh since 1961.

Pearl married Wesley L. Scott, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1958. She later married Earl King, who also preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

She was a volunteer and was active in all activities of the Senior Citizens of Tecumseh. She was a member of Romulus Baptist Church and had attended Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh in the later years of her life.

She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jack Stover; one grandson, Gary Ward; and one great-grandson, Michael Craig Ward.

Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Stover of Tecumseh; son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Bonnie Scott of Macomb; six grandchildren, Mike Ward, Denise Neitzke, David Scott, Randy Scott, Gaila Hatler and Pamela Ward; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Leona Lewis of Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Tony Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Romulus Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Tonya Kaye Williams

Tonya Kaye Williams was born Nov. 18, 1961, in Oklahoma City, and departed this life on Friday, Feb. 10, in Meeker at the age of 44.
She was the daughter of Walter H. and Eugenia (Tubbs) Redd. She worked as a beautician for many years and was a member of the Church of Christ in Shawnee.

Tonya is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Jane Redd and Elsie Whitlow.

Survivors include two daughters, Eboni Williams of Shawnee, and Sema Williams of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Jonathon and Matthew Williams, both of Meeker; eight brothers, Walter Redd Jr. of Meeker, Harold Redd of Memphis, Tenn., Tucson Redd of Kansas City, Mo., Keith Redd of Chickasha, Maurice Redd of Topeka, Kan., Roy L., Leroy, and James Redd all of Oklahoma City; nine sisters, Sylvia Shelton of Chandler, Ariz., Arletha Zukowski of St. Charles, Mo., Oletha Wallace of Galesburg, Ill., Lena Davis of Chandler, Shelia Whitfield of Meeker, Tellia Yarbrough of Oklahoma City, Telonda Redd of Memphis, Tenn., Bianca Redd of Topeka, Kan., Rachel Singleton of Edmond; three grandchildren, Walter, Journi, and Houston Williams all of Shawnee; and other family and friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. today at the Douglass Community Center, Chandler, with Brother Harold Redd officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery near Meeker under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Shawnee resident Charles Allen McMakin, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Unity Health Center-North Campus.
Memorial service was 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Northridge Church of Christ and Mike Shelburn officiated.

Leona Mae King

Konawa resident Leona Mae King, 70, died Saturday, Feb. 11, at her home.

Former Shawnee and Tecumseh resident Mary Jean McIntyre, 83, died Friday, Feb. 10, at West Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
