Newalla resident Patsy B. Peeler, 72, died Friday, March 31, in Oklahoma City.

Tecumseh resident Ivadell Dodson, 87, died Friday, March 31, in Shawnee.

Gordon L. Taylor

Long-time Shawnee resident Gordon L. Taylor, 79, died Thursday, March 30, at his home.

He was born March 1, 1927, in Okemah to John and Minnie (Moose) Taylor.

He attended Mason schools and married Helen Collins on Aug. 28, 1945, in Midwest City.

He retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 32 years and 10 years for Dinsmore Motor Co.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents two brothers, Ralph and Walter Taylor; and four sisters, Clara Lee, Rosa Mae, Ima and Ola.

Survivors include his wife Helen of the home; a daughter, Patsy Smith of Del City; son, Larry Dale Taylor of Shawnee; granddaughter, Julie Rhodes and husband Jerry of Moore; grandson, Randy Cram and his wife Jodie of Choctaw; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Sarah Rhodes of Moore and Carson and Kacie Cram of Choctaw; stepgrandson, Blake Veal of Choctaw; brother, Claude and wife Nellie Taylor of Shawnee; sister, Lois and husband Lonnie Plemmons of Oklahoma City; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Don Duval officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Okemah at 1:30 p.m. Monday.


Kenneth Leon Vaughn

Stuart resident Kenneth Leon Vaughn, 61, died Friday, March 31, in McAlester.
He was born May 3, 1944, in Shawnee to Orbie Newton and Edna Lou Baker Vaughn. He attended school in Shawnee and graduated in 1962. He later received his associate's degree in drafting from Okmulgee Tech.

He entered the U.S. Army, where he served with the 95th Division of the Army Reserves from 1964 to 1969.

He married Karen Ann Kelley on Sept. 3, 1965, in Shawnee. They made their home in Shawnee before moving to Tulsa, where he worked for the Corps of Engineers as a draftsman. Later, the family moved to McAlester. He began working as a salesman for Kelley Motor Company in 1972 and worked there until his death.

He was a member of the Church of Christ and was baptized on June 22, 1970, and later became a member of the Stuart Church of Christ.

Kenneth enjoyed working his cattle and visiting with people. He was a dedicated family man who lived life to its fullest.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orbie Vaughn; his mother, Edna Baker Brazeal; grandson, Tanner Kyle Vaughn; stepfather, Orville Brazeal; and father-in-law, E.D. Kelley.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Ann Vaughn of the home; three sons and two daughters-in law, Stuart and Rhonda Vaughn of McAlester, Kevin Wade and Tina Vaughn of Tishomingo and Brian Keith Vaughn of Dallas; six grandchildren, Brittni, Ashley, Haley, Corey, Hayden and McKynzie Vaughn; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Glenda Vaughn of Shawnee; a sister, Darlene Lamascus of Shawnee; mother-in-law, Ida Kelley of Stuart; brother-in-law Hershel and his spouse Cheryl Kelley of Stuart; sister-in-law, Karla Jan Kelley of Mead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Stuart Church of Christ with Red Coleman officiating and Jim Corley assisting.

Gilbert Monroe Crook Jr.

Maud resident Gilbert Monroe Crook Jr., 75, died Thursday, March 30, at St. Anthony Hospital, Oklahoma City.
He was born on March 6, 1931, near Seminole to Gilbert Monroe Crook Sr. and Dorothy Dell (Miles) Crook.

He attended Ray City School, Maud High School and later Okmulgee Tech College. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier.

He was a member of St. Louis Baptist Church, the NAWCC and the KOTR.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Crook of the home; four children, Daniel Lee Crook of Shawnee, Michael Dean Crook and wife Shelley of Shawnee, Gilbert Mark Crook and wife Kathryn of Tecumseh and Bruce Alan Floyd and wife Billie of Ada; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Marvella Martin and husband E.O. "Corky;" and other family and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Resthaven Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Macomb resident Paul Raymond Howell, 65, died Friday, March 31, in Shawnee.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Ruby Nell Davis York officiating.

Other information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.


Verlin R. Abel 

Verlin R. Abel went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, March 29.

Able was born June 15, 1913, to V.R. Abel and Maggie Wisehart in Ava, Mo. At the age of 8, he moved with his family to Wetumka.

He was an Oklahoma educator, receiving his teaching degree from East Central University in Ada and his master's degree from The University of Oklahoma. He served as school superintendent in several Oklahoma school districts.

After leaving professional education, Able continued his zeal for learning as a salesman for school books and supplies with Thompson's Books Store. He was an ordained minister and taught Sunday school class for 66 years. He loved his church life and won many people to Christ.

Verlin married Florence Elizabeth Skinner of Ada on July 12, 1934. They had two sons and one daughter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by his wife Florence of the home; a sister; two sons, Paul Abel and his wife Joyce of Bethel Acres and Ed Abel and his wife Carol of Yukon; a daughter, Donna Sue Holt and her husband Steve of Mustang; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy Rice officiating and the Rev. Scott Gordon assisting. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Paul Raymond Howell

Lifelong Macomb area resident Paul Raymond Howell, 65, passed away Friday, March 31, at Solara Rehabilitation Center in Shawnee.
He was born Sept. 29, 1940 to Ancille and Faye (Sanders) Howell in Tecumseh.

Paul attended Tecumseh High School and married Juanita Collins on May 28, 1976 in Macomb.

He was a well known auto mechanic and was said to be the best transmission mechanic in the local area.

Paul loved to work the land on his farm and he loved any type of automotive repair. He rebuilt his first car, a 1929 Model A Ford, at the age of 13.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ancille and Faye Howell; a son, Danny Ray Howell; nephews, Doug Megehee and Timmy Moore; and a granddaughter, Misty Howell.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Howell of Shawnee; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Don Howell, Tommy and Debbie Howell, Ricky and Loretta Keys, all of Shawnee, and Paul Edward Howell of Macomb; three daughters, Janell Howell and her fiance, James Seckel, Tami Morgan and her husband, Jeff, all of Shawnee, and Lisa Cook of Maud; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Leland Moore, and Kathy and Leroy Megehee, all of Macomb; one half-sister and her husband, Donita and Jack Price of Lamar, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other family.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh with Ruby Nell Davis York officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, Macomb, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Bobby Louis Moore

Tecumseh resident Bobby Louis Moore, 68, died Saturday, April 1, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Stratford to Vernon Moore and Chloe McKnight-Moore.

On April 7, 1958, he married Carma Rita Hendricks-Moore in Bakersfield, Calif.

Bobby retired from General Motors and enjoyed working in his shop on various projects and bowling.

Two brothers, Tommy Moore and Glen Moore; and two infant sisters, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Carma Moore, of the home; two daughters, Kim Pierce and Tammy Rodriques, both of Shawnee; parents, Vernon and Chloe Moore, of Shawnee; two sons-in-law, Kevin Mangan and Ed Phillips, both of Shawnee; five grandchildren, Timmy Pierce, Anthony Rodriques, Eddie Pierce, Cheryl Rodriques, and Bobbie Mangan, all of Shawnee;

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Keith Cole officiating. Gaskill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.


Jerry King

Shawnee resident Jerry King, 64, died Friday, March 31, in a local hospital.
He was born Nov. 6, 1941, in Wewoka to Uie Vic and Naomi King.

Jerry was a long distance transport driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Dulin King.

Survivors include his wife, Donna King of the home; six children, Gerald King Jr., Naomi and David Spaulding, all of Shawnee, Donnie and Vickie King of Jones, Kenneth and Yvette Walker of Sparks, Kimberly King of Meeker, and Deborah King of Shawnee; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Dennis and Phyllis King of New Mexico, Elaine and Bill Caudell of Texas, Gene and Ramona King of Jenks, Jimmy and Wanda King of Shawnee, Richard King of Arkansas, Kathy and Jack McKeaigg of Colorado, and Mike and Elizabeth King of Shawnee, numerous nieces and nephews.

Meeker resident William Clifford Judd, 85, died Sunday, April 2, in Shawnee.

Goldie McArthur

Shawnee resident Goldie McArthur, 96, passed from this life and into the Lord's hands Monday, April 3.
She was born on June 4, 1909, near Asher. Goldie was the oldest of eight children from the pioneering family of John F. and Katie Belle Adams-Harlin.

She was married 1928 in Fayetteville, Ark., to William I. McArthur. In 1930 they established their home in Shawnee.

Goldie joined First Baptist Church in 1935. For 15 years she was the nursery director and was very active in preschool work for 45 years. She was a member of the Phoebe Sunday School Class.

Goldie owned and operated McArthur Daycare in her home for 20 years and cared for generations of Shawnee children; including current Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry.

Her husband, William, owned and operated McArthur Fruit Market at 901 N. Kickapoo and later owned a real estate company before retiring.

She was preceeded in death by both parents; her husband, William McArthur, in 1972; five siblings, Abbie Mongold, Bertha Worley, Opal Kizer, Luther Harlin and Elmo Harlin; son, William B. McArthur and his wife, Shirley McArthur and her son-in-law Vernon Lee Gaines.

Survivors include a daughter, Joy Sue Gaines of Golden, Colo.; six grandchildren, Ken Bryson Jr., Linda McArthur, Susan G. Davis, Lisa McArthur, James R. Bryson, and John R. Bryson; three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Eula D. Lee of Amarillo, Texas, Wanda J. Gotcher of Gilbert, Ariz.

Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery Pavailion. Service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Shawnee with Dr. Paul Calmes officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Service.


Roy E. Lovett

Lovett, Roy E. devoted father and loyal friend died Saturday morning at the age of 64.
He loved his children and grandchildren.

He enjoyed books, music, the outdoors, and keeping busy with a multitude of projects.

Roy attended Capitol High School, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, owned and operated for several years Ginny's Pub, worked as a tile mason, retired from Tinker Field Air Force Base, and worked part-time at a local land field.

He has lived in Newcastle for the last 37 years.

He is survived by his children, Roy V. Lovett of Newcastle, John E. Smith of Las Vegas, Alicia and her husband Terry McCullar and their children Tyler, Bailey, and Braxton of Tecumseh, and Julia and her husband Dustin Penrod and their daughter Addison of Moore.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., today, April 5, 2006 in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, S.W. 104th & Walker, Oklahoma City, with interment following in Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Gracey Kay Miller, infant daughter of Brian Allen and Charity Faith (Presley) Miller, was born on Saturday, April 1, 2006, in Midwest City and passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006, in Midwest City.

Seminole resident James L. "Jimmy" Wheeler Jr., 56, died Monday, April 3, at his home.

Valdora Mae Mosier

Shawnee resident Valdora Mae (Winkler) Mosier, 82, died Saturday, April 1, in an Oklahoma City hospital.
She was born March 29, 1924, in Meeker to Tom and Edna Winkler. She graduated from White Rock School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University for two years.

On July 6, 1945, she married Patton Henry Mosier. He preceded her in death in 1986.

Valdora was a member of Hazel Dell Baptist Church where she was a church pianist and Hazel Dell Extension Homemakers. She also worked at McDonald's at I-40 and Kickapoo.

She was a avid cake decorator, loved fishing and enjoyed dominos at C.A.R.E .

She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Geneva Johnson; two brothers, Paul Winkler and IvanWinkler; and a grandson, Jeffrey Alan Mosier.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Hugh and Carol Mosier of McLoud, Howard and Lynette Mosier of Shawnee, Doyle Mosier of San Marcos, Texas, Patricia Mosier of Salem, Ore., Philip and Luanne Mosier of Shawnee, and Darla and David Earnhart of Chester, Ark.; grandchildren, Michelle and Jeremy Brown of Oklahoma City, Todd Mosier of Shawnee, Misty and Albert Pearce of McLoud, DeEtta Burns of Shawnee, Edward and Tammy Mosier of McLoud, Jennifer Mosier of Texas, Kimberly Mosier of Edmond, James Curtis of Salem, Ore., Christina and Brad Collins of Shawnee, Amanda Rhoton of Shawnee, Daniel McLeod of Arkansas, and Zachary Earnhart of Arkansas; eight great-grandchildren, Levi Mosier, McKayla Pearce, Bailey Brown, Justin Mosier, Justice Mosier, Eleanor Mosier, Storie Mosier and Kayana Rhoton; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruth Mosier of Chickasha, Lora Mosier of Sperry, Deloris Shingleton of Claremore, and Verna and Charles Dykstra of California; two brothers and sisters-in-law, W.D. Patrick E. Payne

Macomb resident Patrick E. Payne, 55, died Saturday, April 1, in Macomb.
He was born June 16, 1950, in Oklahoma City to Henry Lee and Martha C. (Winters) Payne. Born and raised in Oklahoma City, he had lived in Macomb for the past 20 years.

For four years he served in the U.S. Army in Germany.

On June 16, 1971, he married Lois Schulz in Oklahoma City.

Patrick worked in building maintenance most of his life. He was an AMVET. He enjoyed camping, fishing, rock collecting and riding motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Thomas Samuels; and a brother, Michael Lee Payne.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Amy Payne of Shawnee, Shawn and Mary Ann Payne of Tribbey, and Steven Payne of the home; one grandchild, Dustin Sanders of Shawnee; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Fara Samuels of Greely, Kan.; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Lee Johnson of Alabama; and three nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with James Bond officiating. Burial will follow at Tribbey Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.


Carolyn Jane McCool

Shawnee resident Carolyn Jane McCool died Saturday, April 1, in a local hospital at the age of 69.
Carolyn was born in 1936 in Kansas City, Mo., to James and Lucielle Ratcliff.

In 1965 she married the late Honorable Judge Wilber Payton McCool. He passed away in 1975 leaving her with two young daughters, Suzzanne Michelle McCool and Michaela Colleen McCool.

Carolyn came to Oklahoma in 1978 to do missionary work. In 1985 she married Leon Wakolee.

She leaves behind her husband, Leon Wakolee of the home; three daughters, Michaela Hart of the home, Suzzanne McCool of Shawnee, and Linda and her husband, Jeff Gillispi, of Kansas City; four sons and daughter-in-law, Joe and Shelly Ousley of Missouri, David Ousley of New Mexico, Jimmy Makris of Kansas City, and George Makris of Arizonia; granddaughter, Lacee and Sean Wadlow of Moore; two sisters, Dorothy and Patrick Dulaney of Denver, Colo. and Patricia Johnson of Olympia, Wash.; and lots of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was loved and will be missed dearly.

Private services will be held for close friends and family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Chapel.

Rev. Edward Wright

Tecumseh resident Rev. Edward Wright, 74, died Sunday, April 2, in Norman.
He was born April 30, 1931, in Tribbey to John and Annie (James) Wright.

He attended Tribbey School and Southwestern Bible College in Bethany.

He was reared in Tribbey, where he met his first wife. Following their marriage, they lived in Oklahoma City for 20 years before moving to Amarillo, Texas. They also had lived throughout Oklahoma and resided in Tecumseh since 1985.

On July 14, 1951, he married Louise Chandler in Tecumseh. She preceded him in death Nov. 10, 1999. On Oct 30, 2000, he married Onalee (Kerley) Cearley.

Following living in Oklahoma City, his Ministry of Evangelism led him to Amarillo and throughout Oklahoma. He also owned and operated various auto repair shops for many years.

He was a member of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He also was a member of the Choctaw Tribe.

Rev. Wright enjoyed singing, guitars, softball, basketball and games.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents and one brother, Terry Wright.

Survivors include his wife, Onalee Cearley Wright of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Stephen Goodson of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; four sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Missy Wright of Warr Acres, Robert and Debby Wright of Mustang, Bobby and Teresa Cearley of Moore and Jimmy and Beverly Cearley of Tecumseh; one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Jim Chapman of Chickasha; six grandchildren, Damon Wright and his wife, Krista, Steven Wright, Vanessa Wright, Brittany Goodson, Desiree Cearley and Carla Cearley; three great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim McDowell and the Rev. Fred Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemtery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.


Gussie Pauline Ward

Shawnee resident Gussie Pauline (Ticer) Ward, 91, died Monday, April 3, in Shawnee.
She was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Shawnee to Newton Absolom Josiah N.A.J. and Annie (Weatherford) Ticer.

Gussie was a graduate of Shawnee High School.

On Sept. 14, 1946, she married John Clyde Ward in Shawnee. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2003.

She was born and raised in Shawnee. In 1948, she and her husband moved to Tecumseh and in 1955 built a home on Rangeline where they had lived ever since.

Gussie worked as a hairdresser, a legal secretary in Shawnee and later at Tinker Force Base, from which she retired. She also was co-owner of Ward's Tot and Gift Shop from 1948 until closing the store on Jan. 1, 1951.

She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church since May 7, 1967, where she was involved with United Methodist Women and Friendship Circle. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 30 of Tecumseh, where she had received her 50-year pin and in 1958 served as Grand Worthy Matron. She also was a member of the Sorosis Club.

Survivors include her niece, Betty Allen of Moore; numerous great-nieces and nephews; special friends, Donna and Jack Smith of Shawnee and Rosemary and Ron Lyons of Tecumseh; many other friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tracy Schumpert, Broadway United Methodist Church, Tecumseh, officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.


Dorothy Coffey

Tecumseh resident Dorothy Coffey, 68, died Tuesday, April 4, in Shawnee.
She was born November 18, 1937, in McAlester to Herbert and Florene (Fisher) Sinclair. She was reared in McAlester and had lived in Pottawatomie County for more than 40 years. She was a 1956 graduate of McAlester High School.

She was married April 20, 1973, in Wewoka to Jim Coffey. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2004.

Dorothy served in the U. S. Navy for two years. After leaving the navy she worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer for Jerry Matthews Roofing, Finley & Cook and her husband's auto business for many years.

As a child, she was a member of the Rainbow Girls.

She enjoyed traveling to Laughlin and Las Vegas.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Anna Owens; three brothers, Harry, Herbie and Kenneth Sinclair and one grandson, Christopher Wayne Coffey.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Gary Carter of Tecumseh, Debby and Jerry Deschazer of Eufaula, Jan and Craig Wright of Vacaville, Calif., and Donna and Mike Bryan of Eufaula; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Lori Coffey of Tecumseh and their daughter, Ashley; two sisters, Mary Sinclair of Texas and Wilma Wright of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; April Bugg, Chance Carter, Nickolas Tanner, Jennifer Sherman, Aaron Allen, Alan Wright, Cristin Allen, Jeff Wright, Matthew Bryan, Mitchell Bryan and Dillon Bryan; four great-grandchildren

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Donnie Knight uner the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Nolan Ray Moss

Nolan Ray Moss was born on Jan. 29, 1934, in Moss, Okla., and departed this life on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in Oklahoma City at the age of 72.
Nolan, the son of Ezra Nelson and Evelyn Adell (Hill) Moss, had been a resident of Prague since he was ten years old.

He married Barbara Opela on Jan. 28, 1956, in Prague and they have made their home in Prague since that time.

Nolan had worked for Public Supply Company in Oklahoma City as a truck driver and for the past 11 years had been employed by the Prague School District. He was serving as tranportation director for the District at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Moss of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Camie Moss, Harrison, Ark.; one sister and brother-in-law, Eva Nell and Doug Burch of Prague; two aunts, Edith Melvin of Elk City and Juanita Leak of Meeker; four grandchildren, Madison and MeShae Stone of Myrna, Tenn., and Kasi and Alex Moss of Harrison, Ark.

The family will receive friends during a visitation at the funeral home this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Prague with Brother Tim Emmons and the Rev. Starland Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery in Prague under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Steven I. Radford

Longtime Shawnee resident Steven I. Radford, 48, died Thursday, March 30, in San Antonio.
He was born Nov. 23, 1957, in Denver, Colo., to Elmer Eugene and Sue (Singleton) Radford.

He attended school in Shawnee and Farmington, N.M.

Radford was a salesman.

Survivors include his daughter, Shonda Rene' Radford of Snowflake, Ariz.; two sisters, Beverly Helms of Generette, La., Nancy Cox of McLoud; two brothers, William Dunn of McLoud, Russell Dunn of Washington State; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; special uncle, Sherman Singleton of Farmington.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Living Word Tabernacle, west of Meeker. Burial will follow at Resthaven.


Hazel Ann Brewer

Funeral services for Hazel Ann Brewer will be held Friday, April 7, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Okemah. Burial is to follow at the Schoolton Cemetery in Seminole County.
Hazel Ann Brewer was born March 10, 1923, in Tuskegee, Okla. to Earl and Emma Irons. She passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in Oklahoma City at the age of 83.

Hazel was a longtime resident of the Cromwell area. She was saved and baptized in the Castle Baptist Church in 1953 and was currently attending the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Cromwell.

Hazel and Tillman Eugene "Gene" Brewer were married July 7, 1945 in Okemah; he later preceded her in death on June 9, 1995.

She was a devoted homemaker and love to crochet and garden.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, Earl Irons and Emma (Blevins) Irons; two brothers, Merton and John Irons; one sister, Frankie Marshall; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Steve Brewer and wife, Cheryl, of Okemah; one step-son, Dale Brewer and wife, Edna, of Broken Arrow; three daughters, Carlis Flowers and husband, James, of Okemah, Earlene Roper and husband, Jerry, of Seminole, and Ruth Dennison and husband, Bryan, of Shawnee; one brother, Raymond Irons and wife, Ruby, of Okmulgee; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Services under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home and officiated by Dr. Roger Thompson.


Beverly Odom Castoe

Beverly "Sissy" Castoe died peacefully Tuesday evening, April 4, in a Midwest City nursing home. Ms. Castoe had battled diabetes for many years.
She was born May 22, 1952, in Shawnee to Bobby Odom and JoAnn Haug. Ms. Castoe attended Shawnee schools and graduated in 1970 from Shawnee High School. She attended Seminole Jr. College and Gordon Cooper Tech. On October 26, 1991 she married Randy Castoe in Shawnee.

Ms. Castoe loved poetry, music, cooking, gardening and her family. In 1991 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and found the greatest love of her life. Through her difficulties with her health, she was often an inspiration to those who visited and cared for her.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Roberta Anne Odom; grandparents, Carl and Viola Haug and Samuel and Mary Anna Odom; and best friend, Vanessa Dapprich in 1997.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel in Shawnee. The service will be officiated by Rev. Gary R. Hammons of Nowata.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Anderson, Jeremy Anderson, Todd Hammons, Jeffrey Hammons, Brad Hammons and Mark Turner.

She leaves behind a family who loves her deeply and mourns her loss. Survivors include her father, Bobby Odom of Shawnee; her mother, JoAnn Odom of Shawnee; two sisters and brothers-in-law; Kenneth and Debbie Anderson of Duncan, Gary and Mary Anna Hammons of Nowata; beloved nieces and nephews, Todd and Kathy Hammons and their children of Houston, Texas; Jeffrey Hammons and his children of Houston, Stephanie and Michael Dubenezic and their son of Germany, Michael Bradley Hammons of Houston, Jeremy Matthew Anderson of Duncan, and Sarah and Trey Tyler of Edmonton, Canada; several aunts and uncles.

Howard William Rusk

Sand Springs resident Howard William Rusk, 84, died Thursday, March 23, in Sand Springs.
He was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., to Roy Rusk and Mary Glenna (Brown) Rusk.

On Oct. 31, 1945, he married Audrey Desormeaux in San Francisco, Calif.

Howard served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands.

He retired as a captain in the fire department at the Alameda Naval Air Station.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Audrey; his parents; one brother; two sisters and a great-grandson, Hallex Bradley.

Cleo Glenwood Davis

Cleo Glenwood Davis, 86, died Friday, April 7, in Prague.

Davis, the son of Charlie George and Julie E. (Orsburn) Davis, was born Dec. 24, 1919, north of Paden.

He had been a Prague resident since 1947 and had lived in the Paden and Prague areas all his life.

Davis graduated from Paden High School in 1938 and earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics from Oklahoma State University in 1942.

He served in the U.S. Army overseas with the 25th infantry division during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he suffered while in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

Davis married Jane Shero Oct. 12, 1946, in Wilburton. They purchased the Jake Mitchell farm east of Prague and made their home there until moving to Prague in 1994. They purchased Home Oil Company, Prague, in 1954 and operated it until they retired.

Davis was an active member of First Baptist Church, Prague, and served as president of the Prague Chamber of Commerce. He also served 10 years on the Prague Public School board and was a member of the Prague American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Davis of the home in Prague, sons and daughters-in-in law, Joe and Carol Davis, Chickasha, Dr. Frank and Ann Davis, Edmond, and Earl Davis, Alta Loma, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Buck Wright, Stillwater; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Mary Davis, Paden; sisters: Sylvia Chambless, McLoud, Marie Wilkins, Yukon, and Clarice Stone, Shawnee; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Doyle Ward

Shawnee resident Doyle Ward, 82, died Friday, April 7, at Unity Health Center, Shawnee.

He was born May 8, 1923, in Chalk, Texas, the son of Henry and Mattie Ward.

Ward grew up and attended school in Wanette.

On Aug. 7, 1942, he was married to Mary Sandoval in San Diego, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kittyhawk. Later he joined the U.S. Air Force and served until retiring in 1971.

Ward worked for the U.S.Post Office in Oklahoma City as a mail sorter and clerk.

He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing and calling bingo at the V.F.W., American Legion and the Forty et Eight Club.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jim Celcer of Bethel; son, James Ward of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Brandy, Christina and Erika; and four great-grandchildren, Keylie, Kaydee, Kinzee and Brandon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and 13 siblings.

Service will be noon Tuesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.B.S., officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Shawnee resident Patricia Ann McDonald Prince, 71, died Monday, April 3, in Omaha, Neb.
She was born March 20, 1935, in Optima, Okla., to Clifford Ira and Zela Mae McDonald. She graduated from Guymon High School in 1953 and attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell.

She was married to Aubrey Prince Jr. from September 1954 until 1974.

She held several positions with Southwestern Bell and was working as a fraud investigator when she retired in 1997. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a grandson, Michael H. Reed; and a sister, Betty Barnes.

Surviving relatives include three daughters and sons-in-law: Aubre Ann and Mike T. Reed of Shawnee; Kendra Beth and Mike Coomer of Glencoe; and Susan Christi and Chris Peterson of West Point, Neb.; nine grandchildren: Ricky, Brian and Sean Reed of Shawnee; Ray, Haley and Carley Coomer of Glencoe; and Hanna, Emilee and Dean Peterson of West Point, Neb.; five great-grandchildren: Michael and Ashley Coomer and Kaleb, Korbyn and Callie Coomer; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dee McDonald of Austin, Texas; a sister, Rita Richards of Shawnee; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Harvie Markwell Jr.

Harvie Markwell Jr., 80, of Shawnee passed away Thursday, April 6, at a local hospital.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church of Shawnee. Brother Sam Hendry performed the service. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery.

On Feb. 6, 1926, Harvie was born to Harvie E. Markwell Sr. and Zeffie (Youngblood) Markwell in Seminole County. In 1930, he moved with his family to the Meeker area, where he attended school at Rich Hill, Lincoln County and Pleasant Hill in Pottawatomie County. On June 9, 1944, he married Erlene Terrell.

As a young man, Harvie was farmer and dairyman in the Meeker community. Later he entered the construction business, primarily in the asphalt paving business. He owned operated Markwell Paving and Markwell Sand. Harvie enjoyed traveling and seeing different parts of the country and world. His favorite trips include hiking up and down the Grand Canyon with his son, Darrell, and his trip to the Holy Lands with his wife, Lorain. Besides his family and his work, his only other passion was reading and studying the Bible. Harvie attended Immanuel Baptist Church.

Harvie married Lorain Wagstaff on April 20, 1972.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elvan Christopher and Ernest Lewis; one sister, Lola Oneta Grubaugh.

Surviving family members are his wife, Lorain Markwell, of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Gail Markwell of Meeker; one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Connie Markwell of Edmond; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Joe Johnson of Yukon, Joan Wagstaff and Jim Smith of Plano, Texas, Patty Wagstaff and Bruce Carlton of Shawnee; nine grandchildren, Damon Markwell of Yukon, Lindsey and Kyle Gothard of Yukon, Amy and Greg Feuerborn of Yukon, Joe and Christy Johnson of Spokane, Wash., Jessica, Zac and Veronica Wagstaff-Smith of Plano,Texas, Cameron Blass and Casey Carlton of Shawnee; great-grandchildren, Austin and Dakota Feuerborn, Braydon Markwell and Olivia Gothard, all of Yukon, Cash Johnson of Spokane; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Audie Pace of Dothan, Ala.; many more extended family members and friends that were very special to him.

Agnes Hammons Jones

Edmond resident Agnes Hammons Jones, 89, died Monday, April 10, in Oklahoma City of natural causes.
She was born May 27, 1916, in Newalla to Joseph and Mary Ann Pecore.

Jones married Oscar M. Hammons and Lee Corlise Jones.

She was a lab and X-ray technician with the Bureau of Indian Health Services for more than 20 years.

Jones was a member of the National Board of Radiologist, where she held the office of secretary/treasurer; Red Hat Society, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church for more than 60 years.

Mother was one of the first LPN's in the State of Oklahoma. She even lobbied for the LPN's to be accepted into hospitals. The legislation passed with the exception that the LPN's could not wear their hats to work. They could wear their pins but not their hats.

Her parents, Joseph and Mary Ann Pecore; spouses, Oscar Hammons and Lee Corlise Jones; son, Major James J. Hammons; grandson, Tim Hammons; granddaughter, Jamie Genzer; sisters, Julia Pecore Tiffin and Irma Pecore, preceded her in death.

Lois Nadean Dyke

Tecumseh resident Lois Nadean Dyke, 83, died Monday, April 10, in Shawnee.
Lois was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Chetopa, Kan., to Lovel and Evelyn (Rudd) Barnett. She was reared in Bartlesville.

On Oct. 7, 1939, she married Basil I. Dyke in Bartlesville. They moved to Tecumseh on April 4, 1948.

Lois worked as a youth guidance specialist at Central Oklahoma Juvenile Treatment Center for 18 years before retiring. She served as a hospice volunteer for many years and was active in the Tecumseh Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed camping and traveling to the lake. Lois loved her cat.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 11, 1979; her parents; and one sister, Maxine Irwin.

Surviving relatives include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Marty Dyke of Albuquerque, N.M., and David and Janet Dyke of Tuttle; granddaughters and their spouses, Tracy and Michael Pineda of Albuquerque, Vonda and Jess Borque of San Antonio, Texas, Crosby Dyke of Norman and Madison Johnson of Tuttle; and many friends and extended family.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Shawnee resident Lydia Sipe, 87, died Sunday, April 9, at a local nursing home of natural causes.
She was born July 21, 1918, in Drury County, Mo., to Oliver and Caroline Mason-Hicks.

She married Clayton Paul Sipe.

Lydia was a homemaker. She enjoyed mission organization at Immanuel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband Clayton on October 7, 2002; three brothers, Noah Hicks, Ora Hicks and Leo Hicks; four sisters, Viola Huffman, Mary Lofton, Amanda Sadler and Martha Lamb.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Sue and her husband, Jimmie Dale Smith of Shawnee; her son, Clayton Paul Sipe, Jr. and his wife Jacque of Sugar land, Texas; two sisters, Inez and her husband Glenn Sigle and Ida Hopkins; four grandchildren, Clayton Paul Sipe, III, Adam Smith and wife Pam, Jay Smith and wife Monica, Karin and husband Matt Lawson; three great-grandchildren, Tim Smith, Dalton and Madigan Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shawnee resident Helen L. von Storch, 99, died Sunday, April 9, at a local hospital.

Bertha Lucille Edwards  

Purcell resident Bertha Lucille Edwards, 94, passed away Sunday, April 9, at a local health care facility.
Bertha was one of three children born to Merle C. and Lucy (Russell) Harris. She was born Jan. 30, 1912 in Purcell.

She retired as a line worker for Wilson Packing Company in Oklahoma City. She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness in Purcell. Bertha was known for loving to talk.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Edwards in 1974; son, Dale Dean Edwards; brother, Christopher Harris; and sister, Lillian Harris.

She is survived by her children, Larry Edwards and wife Sharon of Lexington, Cheryl June Edwards Webster of Lexington; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell.

Tecumseh resident Eldon Eugene "Pops" Lambright, 86, died Saturday, April 8, at an Oklahoma City nursing home.

Cushing resident Bobby Lee York died Sunday, April 9, in Cushing at the age of 70.

Longtime Seminole resident Billie Fay Bowen died Saturday, April 8, at the age of 75.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker with Mickey Shaw officiating.

Curtis Leon Jennings

Prague resident Curtis Leon Jennings, 67, departed this life April 8, in Prague.
He was born on June 20, 1938, in McDonald County, Mo., to John Felix Jennings and Mary Agnes (York) Jennings.

He was an avid horseman and horse trainer and had worked for the Shawnee Animal Hospital and Steward Farms. He was a member of the Meeker First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Terry Lee and Tammy Jennings, Bethel Acres; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy Lynn and Richard Stansell , Meeker, Sehrri Stansell, Meeker, and Debbie and John Watlington, Meeker; three brothers, Marvin Jennings, Joplin, Mo., Leroy Jennings, Neosho, Mo., and Orvill Jennings, Sedalia, Mo.; four sisters, Eula Pendergraft, Neosho, Mo., Barbara Smith, Vinita, Doris Hootenpile, Big Cabin, and Fay Hands, Savannah, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren.

Viewing and visitation will be at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Meeker with the Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Jamison Cemetery in McLoud under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Meeker.

Norman Burkey Musselman

N. Burkey Musselman, 76, a former director of government communications for Edison Electric Institute, journalist and community volunteer, died of cardiac-related issues on Monday, March 10, at his home in Glenwood Springs, Colo.
Mr. Musselman was born in Arkansas City, Kan., on March 21, 1929, to Ruth Burkey and Norman Beachy Musselman.

He attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Mo. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a joint BA in History/English and a joint MA in Journalism/Economics.

Mr. Musselman served in the U.S. Army as 1st Lieutenant from 1951-1953 in Virginia and Germany.

Early jobs included reporter and an ads salesman for the Shawnee News-Star. His father, Norman Beachy Musselman, was editor of the Shawnee News-Star and president of the OPA, among other associations.

His career in Washington, D.C. began with McGraw-Hill news bureau. He later became the Director of Government Communications for EEI until his retirement in 1994, he lived in Alexandria, Va.

Upon his retirement in 1994, he and his wife fulfilled his lifelong dream to retire and build a home in Glenwood Springs, Colo.

Mr. Musselman was a member of the National Press Club and the White House Correspondents, among others.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Temple Henry of Alexandria, Va., in 2001 and a son, Robert Beachy Musselman of Lunenburg, Mass., in 2005.

Survivors include his children, Elizabeth Temple Whitson of Alexandria, Va., son, Norman Henry Musselman of Rippon Landing, Va.; four grandchildren, Ian A. Whitson of Alexandria, Christian H. Musselman of Rippon Landing, Michael G. Musselman and E. Brooke Musselman of Lunenburg, Mass.

Memorial services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Alexandria, Va.

Burial will be at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Alexandria. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Glenwood Springs.


Viola Diane Payton

Tecumseh resident Viola Diane Payton, 59, died Sunday, April 9, at a local hospital.
She was born June 9, 1946, to Marion and Frank DeMorrow. She attended El Rio High School.

She was married to Joe Richard Simpson for 16 years and Drew Milton Payton for 34 years.

Viola worked as a LVN for 15 years. She was a compassionate and loving mother, grandmother and best friend.

She was preceded in death by Marion and Frank DeMorrow, Frank Ayala, Drew Payton Jr., Drew Payton Sr., Frank (Red) DeMorrow Jr., Patrisha Payton, Druzella Payton, Bocephious Sosha, Elizabeth Simpson and Randy Joe Simpson.

Survivors include sons, Joe Simpson, Cody Simpson, Andy Simpson, Frank Simpson, Scott and Robin Simpson, James Payton and Cris McCarley; daughter, Vianna Ramos and spouse, James Sosha; sisters, Nancy DeMorrow, Carla and Greg Mayr and Gale and Charles Barkley; special friends, Doris Phillips, Jackie Phillips, Shasta Starr, Amber Starr, Staci Short, Mel Quary, Frank and Tiffany Parkinson; 19 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Evangelistic Center Church with Pastor Mark McIntosh officiating.


Ivadell Dodson

Tecumseh resident Ivadell Dodson, 87, died Friday, March 31, in Shawnee.
She was born July 25, 1918, the third of five children, in Fayette, Mo., to Spencer Alexander and Stella (Earickson) McCrary.

Born and raised in Fayette, she moved to Colorado in 1990 and later to Tecumseh in 2001. She attended school in Fayette.

On April 12, 1952, she married Robert Lee Dodson in Fayette, he preceded her in death in 1987.

Dodson was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Tecumseh, she enjoyed writing, playing bingo and watching TV.

Her husband, parents, and an infant sister, Ethel Lucille McCrary, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Ron Lyons of Tecumseh; two sisters, Evelyn Rogers of Howe, Mich., and Lois Carter of Marionville, Mo.; brother, Keith McCrary of Florissant, Mo.; three grandchildren, Rebecca Poole and her husband, Dean, Robert Lyons and Richard Lyons, all of Tecumseh; three great-grandchildren, Nathan Poole, Noah Poole and Liam Poole, all of Tecumseh.

Graveside service was held 2 p.m. Monday, April 3, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Fayette, Mo., and the Rev. Dale Lairson officiated. Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh was in charge of the arrangements.

JoAnn (Linzy) Seeley

Bethel Acres resident JoAnn Seeley, 55, died Wednesday, April 12, at her home.
She was born April 7, 1951 in Fort Gibson to the Rev. Jack T. and Evelyn (McAnally) Linzy.

Born and raised in Fort Gibson, she later moved to Holdenville where she graduated high school in 1969. She then graduated from Seminole Junior College in 1976. She lived her entire adult life in Bethel Acres.

On Oct. 18, 1969, she married Joe Seeley in Holdenville.

JoAnn was a registered nurse a Mission Hill Hospital, Shawnee Medical Center, Prague Hospital, Shawnee Care Center and the Department of Human Services.

She was a longtime member of the Church of the Living God, enjoyed following her children's school activities and spending time with friends, family and her dog Gracie. She was an excellent cook and seamstress.

Her parents and her father-in-law, Joe Seeley Sr. preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Seeley of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jadrea and Scott Prater of Bethel Acres; son, Jason Seeley of Shawnee; brother, Jack R. Linzy of Muskogee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Truby and Gary DeShields of Atwood, Bob and Delane Seeley of Byng, Carol Snyder of Moore, and Angie Seeley of Sulphur; mother-in-law, Iree Seeley of Sulphur; and numerous family and friends.
