Melba TUCKER service held at Hominy
Melba Jane (METZGER) TUCKER, 57, died April 26, at Jennings, Oklahoma.
Born October 19, 1918 at Hallet, she was married to Clyde E. TUCKER in Pawnee. They left here in 1948 and lived in California, then Nevada and Kansas before returning to Oklahoma where they lived in Keystone for nine years. For the past 16 years they have lived in Jennings.
She was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, a son, daughter and 4 grandchildren. Also surviving are 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Alta ALTAFFER of Pawnee.
The funeral service was at Hominy with burial at the Lawson Cemetery near Yale on Thursday, April 29.

Mother Died
Matilda "Tillie" THOMPSON, 80, of Fargo, N. Dakota, died April 30 in Moorhead, Minn. She was interred at Leonard, N.D. on May 3.
She is survived by 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren. Mrs. THOMPSON visited the KEISLERS, in Pawnee, several times in the '60's.

Ward CATES Rites Pend
Ward CATES, 64, died in his home here Tuesday. Funeral services are pending with the Poteet Funeral Home. A long-time citizen of Pawnee, he was a local businessman and had been in ill health.

Brother Died
Harry ROBERSON, 85, Siloam Springs, Arkansas died April 30, 1976 and interment was in the Veteran's Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas May 3.
He was a WWI veteran and served in France.
Survivors include 5 sisters, Mrs. Basil ELMORE, Mrs. John BISHOP, Alpha ROBERSON, Chelsea,  Ruth CHITTENDEN, and Mrs. Ned ROBINSON. A brother, Will ROBERSON, Flagstaff, Arizona, preceded him in death in 1944.

Carroll SHARPNACK and Perry SOUTHERN were united in marriage at the Blackburn Baptist Church Saturday evening, May 1, at 7 p.m. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Sam SOUTHERN. The pastor, Rev. Walter HURT, officiated. The couple plan to make their home in Cleveland.

Mrs. Leslie GARRINGER, Tamara and Chet, were honored the evening of April 22, on the occasion of their first night in their new home. Friends and neighbors gathered for refreshments, a look at the new home - and brought many lovely gifts. It was a warm occasion and provided much pleasure. Many thanks.

War Dance Set Saturday
The Pawnee Indian Veterans, Inc. have announced that a Mother's Day War Dance will be held this Saturday, May 8.
To be held at the Women's Building at the Fairgrounds, it will be conducted by the Veterans and sponsored by Benny BUTLER in honor of his late mother, Mrs. Laura Bell Caesar BUTLER. Dinner will be served.

Mr. and Mrs. A.A. SEWELL of Hugo are announcing the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Mary Luann SEWELL, to James A. WALTERS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen WATERS, of Pawnee.
The couple will be married in August, 1976.

A reception honoring the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph M. CALDWELL of Pawnee, will be held in the couple's home Sunday afternoon, May 9th.
They were married May 9, 1926 in Pawnee and resided in Hominy and Clinton for a short time before returning to Pawnee, where he owned his own plumbing business for many years.
Hosting this happy occasion will be their children - 3 sons and a daughter.
A cordial invitation is extended to friends and relatives.

Floyd Good, 82, Funeral Was Held Here Monday
Floyd James GOOD, 82, former Pawneean, passed away on Friday, Marchf 20, 1981, in Stillwater, and funeral services were held here Monday afternoon.
Born in Ripley, Indian Territory, July 2, 1898, to Austin Morris Good and Laura Bell (LUCE) Good, he was a retired clerk with the Santa Fe Railway, starting at the age of 17 in Pawnee.
He married Florence Ruth WATSON on November 16, 1924, in Pawnee, and they lived in Purcell, Pawnee, Drumright, Perry and Stillwater, which has been their home for the past 38 years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Ripley, Oklahoma.
Survivors include his wife, 2 sons and a daughter. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, plus a sister and a brother: Vera Good of Crescent, Oklahoma; and Glenn Good of Sulphur, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
The Rev. Earnest Leierer, pastor of the Pawnee First Christian Church, officiated at the service at 2 p.m., Monday, March 23, at the Poteet Funeral Chapel. Interment was in Highland Cemetery under directions of the Poteet Funeral Home.

Mrs. Glennis WATSON Service Was Held Here Saturday
Funeral services were held here Saturday afternoon for Glennis Elnora WATSON, 63, who passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 1981 in Drumright.
Born July 20, 1917 in Jennings, to Allen and Amanda (BARNES) POULTER, she married Royal WATSON in Chandler, on July 5, 1967, and she moved to Pawnee at that time. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1971.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a son, 4 stepsons and 4 stepdaughters. Also surviving are 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Mrs. Marcine COLLINS, Oilton; Allen POULTER, Garber; Richard POULTER, Sand Springs; Dorothy BLACKBURN and David POULTER, both of Jennings; and Jerry POULTER of Kremlin.
The Rev. Warren LAMONS of Yale officiated at the service at 2 p.m., Saturday, Marchf 21, 1981, at the Poteet Funeral Chapel and interment was in the Highland Cemetery under direction of the Poteet Funeral Home.

B. SHUNATONA Service Is Held Here Tuesday
Baptiste B. Shunatona, Sr., 58, passed away May 8, 1981, in Richmond Hill, New York and funeral services were held here Tuesday afternoon.
Born May 20, 1922 to Joseph and Gwen Shunatona in Arkansas City, Kansas, he married Hazel CUMMINGS on June 8, 1948, in Wichita, Kansas, where he lived since 1949. He worked for Boeing Aircraft company, Wichita, retiring in 1967.
Survivors include his wife 3 sons and 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Mifaunwy Hines of Richmond Hill, New York.
The Rev. James Eubanks, pastor of the Assembly of God church in Pawnee, officiated at the service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 12 and interment was in the Otoe Indian Cemetery near Red Rock, under direction of the Poteet Funeral Home.

Husband of Citian Rites Held In Tulsa

Funeral services were held in Tulsa, Wednesday, May 13, for Melvin "Pete" SMITH, 60, who died as the result of a vehicle accident near Sayre, Monday, May 11, 1981. Married to the former Cloris EDWARDS of Pawnee, he is survived by a son. Also surviving is his mother and a sister, of Tulsa.
The deceased was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers and they made their home in Tulsa. He was a veteran of the Airforce during WWII. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Gardens Park Chapel in Tulsa.

R. KIMBERLIN Service Held in Kansas City
Funeral services were held in Kansas City recently for former Pawneean, Robert O. Kimberlin and the late Ernest Kimberlin. Born in Pawnee on October 23, 1927, he was the son of Mrs. Erma Oliver Kimberlin and the late Ernest Kimberlin.
He was a senior equipment operator for the Dowell Division of Dow Chemical for 21 years, working both in Great Bend, Kansas and Jefferson City, Missouri. He had lived in Kansas City since 1975. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was a WWII Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Janice (FOOS) Kimberlin, a son and 3 daughters. Services were held on Friday, May 1, in Kansas City, with burial in the Chapel Hill Cemetery in Kansas City.

Lisa BLACK, 19, Burial Rites at Red Rock
Tribal funeral services were held at the Otoe tribal community building Tuesday afternoon for Lisa Gay BLACK, 19, who died Saturday, May 9, 1981, in Tulsa.
Born in Pawnee on January 6, 1962 to Ted, Sr. and Lena Black, she had lived in Red Rock all of her life and was a member of the Baptist Church. She graduated from the Red Rock High School and had attended 2 semesters of the Haskell Indian Junior College.
Survivors include a baby daughter, her parents, 7 sisters and 4 brothers. The tribal service was held Tuesday afternoon, May 12, at the Otoe Community Building and interment was in the Otoe Indian cemetery under directions of the Poteet Funeral Home.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. VANDEVENTER are announcing the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Celia Joy, to Gregory Nicholas GOAD, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy F. GOAD, Jr., of Fairfax.
The wedding will be August 8th at the First United Methodist Church in Pawnee.

Debra ROGERS - Dennis HEINZIG united in double ring ceremony
Miss Debra Eileen ROGERS became the bride of Mr. Dennis Earl HEINZIG. The ceremony was held Sunday, May 24, 1981, in the First Christian Church of Pawnee.
Mr. and Mrs. Olin G. ROGERS of Pawnee and Mr. and Mrs. James HEINZIG of Prague are the parents of the couple. Honored guests of the bride and groom were Mr. and Mrs. Rex MALTSBERGER, the mother and step-father of the bride.
Dr. Darrel RAINS, pastor of Sandia Baptist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and uncle of the groom, performed the ceremony. Mrs. D.E. BUCHANAN, Pawnee, was the organist. Miss Donita MASTERS, Norman, was the vocalist accompanied by her sister, Miss Dana MASTERS on the piano.
The bride's dress was hand-made by a distant cousin. The veil was handsewn by the brides grandmother, Mrs. Jack CROCKER. A bible given to the bride by the Pawnee Chief at her birth was carried. She also carried a hand-drawn handkerchief made by her late great grandmother and carried by her grandmother and mother in their weddings.
The bride's sister, Jackie ROGERS, served as Maid of Honor; and Mrs. Rick MALONE (Cheryl PARAMORE) of Ft. Worth and Laura HAAG of Midwest City were the bridesmaids. Lighting the candles were Miss Heather HEINZIG, the groom's cousin and Jared LENTZ, the bride's stepbrother.
The groom's brother, Jeff HEINZIG, served as best man. Mr. Chuck MCELROY of Sapulpa, and Mr. Roy WALKER, of Oklahoma City, were the groomsmen. Ushers were Mr. Don HEINZIG, Prague, uncle of the groom, and Kinley SMITH, Oklahoma City.
Miss Deborah KITE of Norman presided at the guest book. Assisting with the reception which was held in the Fellowship Hall: Mrs. William KING, who also prepared the four-layer cake, Mrs. Loyd PERRINE, Miss Judy HAMBURGER, Miss Jack ALTAFFER, Pawnee, and Mrs. Jarlon MAGEE, Midland, Texas, aunt of the bride.
Special guests of the bride and groom were Mr. and Mrs. Emil HEINZIG, Prague, the groom's grandparents, and Mrs. Jack CROCKER, Pawnee, the bride's grandmother.
For traveling, wore a necklace which belonged to her late Grandmother ROGERS. Following a wedding trip to Eureka Springs, the couple will make their home in Shawnee.

The last meeting of the session for the U.T.D. study group was held Monday in the lovely new home of Mr. and Mrs. John SCHEIHING located in Woodland Hills, south of Cleveland.
The program was presented by retired Highway Patrolman, Ervin HEIDEBRECHT. Mrs. Allen WATERS presided over the brief business meeting,

Gertie BARNES Services Were Held Here Saturday
Gertie Estelle Barnes, 74, long-time Pawnee resident, passed away here on Wednesday, August 12, 1981, and funeral services were held here Saturday morning.
Born November 11, 1906 to John S. and Orbie M. (MCKINZIE) Barnes in Boone County, Missouri, she came Pawnee with her parents as a child, and has lived here since.
She will be remembered by many as the cook at Frank Bejarano's restaurant here for 45 years.
Survivors include 5 brothers and 1 sister: Barney and Hubert Barnes, both of Kingman, Kansas; George Barnes of Moore, Oklahoma; Lee Barnes of Pawnee; and Mrs. Zada WALKER, Sr., of Sulphur, Oklahoma; plus a number of other relatives and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her mother, father and 3 sisters.
The Rev. James Warnock officiated at the service at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 15, at the Poteet Funeral Chapel and interment was in Highland Cemetery under direction of the Poteet Funeral Home.

Judith LECLAIR Services Held At Ponca City
Judith LeClair, 33, died here Wednesday morning, August 12, 1981, at the Pawnee Municipal and funeral services were held near Ponca City, Friday.
Born September 18, 1947, at Ponca City, she attended schools there and was a member of the Ponca Indian Nazarene Church.
She was injured several years ago and had been a guest in nursing homes since that time.
Survivors include 4 children - 3 sons and a daughter. Also surviving is her mother, 5 brothers and 3 sisters, all of Ponca City.
Funeral services were held at the Ponca Indian Nazarene Church with the Rev. Tony Ceere officiating and burial was in the Ponca Indian Cemetery under direction of the Gill-Lessert Funeral Home.

Earl Adler, 87, Services Held At Maramec
Earl Clayton ADLER, 87, passed away here on Monday, August 17, 1981 and funeral services were held in Maramec on Wednesday morning.
Born December 3, 1893 in Land County, Kansas to William H. and Blanche (POND) Adler, he moved to the Maramec community with his family in 1907 and has lived there since.
He married Josephine TRUESDELL on May 5, 1918 at Maramec and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maramec and was a veteran of WWI with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, a son and a daughter. Also surviving is a grandson, a brother and a sister.
The Rev. Jack MATTHEWS officiated at the service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, at the Maramec First Baptist Church and interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, near Maramec, under direction of the Poteet Funeral Home.

Zadie KINKADE, 76, Services Set For Guthrie Today
Services for Zadie M. Kinkade, Guthrie, will be held there today with burial at the Union Cemetery, near Pawnee.
Mrs. Kinkade passed away on August 16, 1981 at the Logan County Health Center at the age of 76.
She was born on February 14, 1905, in Junction City, Texas, to Charles and Nancy SMITH and was a former resident of the Pawnee area.
Survivors include 5 daughters and 5 sons, 3 step-children, a sister, 54 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, and 2 brothers.

Rita JOHNSON, 32, Ralston, Rites Held Here Saturday
Funeral services were held in Ralston Saturday for Mrs. Rita Irene Johnson, 32, who died in Tulsa on Wednesday, August 12, 1981.
Born February 2, 1949, at Ralston to Merrill and Mattie Ellen (DRAKE) BRANDENBURG, she graduated from Ralston High School in 1987. She married Gary W. Johnson on September 6, 1978, at Tulsa, and they moved from Ralston to Tulsa in June of f1980. She was a security guard with the Wells Fargo office in Tulsa.
She is survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters, all of the home in Tulsa - their last names are BARNES.
Also surviving are her parents, and her grandmother, all of Ralston; plus 6 brothers and 2 sisters. She was preceded in death by a son, John Merrill COMPOS; a brother, Donnie BRANDENBURG and a sister, Marjorie Kathryn BRANDENBURG. She was babtized on November 26, 1960.
Funeral services were held at the Church of the First Born in Ralston at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 15, with Doyle COMBS officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, near Ralston, and arrangements were handled by the Poteet Funeral Home of Pawnee.

Robert SKIDGEL Service Held Here Wednesday
Robert B. Skidgel, 74, passed away in Pawnee on Sunday, August 16, and funeral services were held here Wednesday afternoon.
Born November 30, 1906 to Milo H. and Minnie M. Skidgel, he married Altha COCKREIL on August 8, 1958 in Stillwater. He lived all of his life in Payne County, Oklahoma, except for 22 years in Oregon, moving back to Glencoe in 1956. He worked for the Payne County road construction department for some time.
Survivors include his wife, 3 sons and 3 step-sons. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
James RUNNER officiated at the service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, at the Poteet Funeral Chapel and interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, near Glencoe, under direction of the Poteet Funeral Home.

Pawnee Locals

Joe and Trula GREGOR returned home from a 3 week vacation in New Mexico and Colorado, last Tuesday. They traveled with a caravan of 9 rigs of the Good Sam Club. They had a marvelous time and wonderful weather, but were called home to be with Joe's sister, Helen RYAN, who is to have surgery this week.

Lee BARNES, 79, area pioneer services held Long time Pawnee community resident, Lee BARNES, 79, passed away in Tulsa on Wednesday, August 4, 1982, and funeral services were held here Friday morning.
Born on Feb. 24, 1903, to John S. and Orbie (MCKENZIE) BARNES at Boone County, Missouri, he came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon with his parents and had lived in this area most of is life.
He married Fannie ANDREWS and she passed away in November of 1967 and married Marge BRIM in 1968. He owned and operated his own truck for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marge, a step-daughter and grandson, all of Pawnee. Also surviving are 4 brothers and a sister: Hubert, Barney, Kansas; Bennie, George, and Zada all of Oklahoma.
The Rev. James EUBANKS, Assembly of God pastor, officiated at the service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 6, 1982, at the Poteet Funeral Chapel. Interment was in Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Poteet Funeral Home.

Newspaper Clipping: "LEE BARNES was buried last week. He was always a special person to me. As a youngster I was amazed at how he could drive a truck since he had use of only one foot but when he traded his trucks in they were bought quickly by folks who knew how well he took care of them.
Lee was as kindly gentleman from a big, big family and earned his own keep. If you didn't know Lee Barnes, try to picture a hard-working, honest, patriotic American. That was him." TG
