FREDERICK, OK - Lorene Norene CHEEK was born November 9, 1922, in Okfuskee County, and died Dec. 15, 1997, in Lawton. Funeral services were held at Montezuma Baptist Church with Revs. David PIERCE and Kellos WALKER officiating. Pallbearers were: Dennis MORGAN, Tommy MORGAN, Michael MORGAN, Ronnie MORGAN, Buddy KING, and Johnny MORGAN. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth MORGAN, James KING, Earl KING, and Louis MORGAN, III.
She was the daughter of March and Soshoye (HARJOCHEE) DAVIS, who preceded her in death. She was married to Johnny CHEEK for 53 years and was well known for her beadwork.
She is survived by her husband of the home, her eight children; John KING of Oklahoma City, Anderson CHEEK of Glenn Heights, TX, Kenneth CHEEK of Tulsa, John CHEEK of Arlington, VA, Jerry CHEEK of Albuquerque, NM, Mary GARCIA of Dallas, TX, Laura BUSHYHEAD of Oklahoma City, and Barbara COLLINS of Tulsa; two sisters, Josephine MORGAN of Morris and Marion DAVIS of Okmulgee; and 14 grandchildren.

HARJO
Talihina, LeFlore Co., OK
WETUMKA - Nixie "Shot" HARJO was born November 22, 1924 in Hughes County, and died January 9, 1998 at Oklahoma Veterans Center in Talihina. He was a WWII veteran and a well know rodeo calf roper. Funeral services were held Jan. 17 at Sand Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Harry ANDERSON and Don WALKER officiating. Pallbearers were Buddy KESSEE, Bronco HARJO, Lance HARJO, Roy RAINWATER, Brent RAINWATER, and Mel AUTRY. Honorary pallbearers were David HARJO, Turner MEADORS, Sonny GOODSPEED, Ira HICKERSON, Bob ARRINGTON, Ricky BEMO, Leon REYNOLDS, Bobby BURGESS and Jake CLINTON. Interment was at the Harjo Family Cemetery.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Bunny and Betsy (FIFE) HARJO, his wife Imogene, mother-in-law Mary, and sister-in-law Wanda.
He is survived by nephews, Nelson HARJO of Checotah and David HARJO of Norman; nieces, Betsy PROCTOR and Judith HARJO of Wetumka; a sister-in-law, Marie HARJO of Wetumka; eight great-nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews; relatives and friends.

KONTZ
Coweta, Wagoner Co., OK
FORT DEFIANCE, AZ - Alene Marie KONTZ was born April 14,1925 in Coweta, and died December 3, 1997 in Ft. Defiance. Services were held Dec. 6 at Navajo Bible Church with Rev. Bob HILDERMAN officiating and Rev. Dean BAKER assisting. Interment was in Navajo Veterans Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. Donald LEWIS-KRAITSIK, Donovan MITCHELL, Obie SULLIVAN, Angelo DI PAOLO, Daniel GARCIA, Dale YERGER, Jr., and Mervyn HILLIS. Honorary pallbearers were; Navajo Code Talkers and Dimitrio LUCERO.
She belonged to the Beaver Clan and Tulsa Canadian Tribal Town. Her parents were Rev. Thomas and Nicey (CHELAKEE) TIGER. She was a retired post master and was married to Tex T. KONTZ, one of six original Navajo code talkers. She was a residence of Ft. Defiance for 43 years.
She was preceded in death by: her grandparents, Rev. Billy and Lilah TIGER, and Jimsey and Louvina (McCOMBS) CHALAKEE, her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her nine children: Thomas KONTZ of Aurora, CO, Richard KONTZ, Gallup, NM, Rex KONTZ of Ft. Defiance, Warren KONTZ of Phoenix, Debra GILL of Gallup, NM, Nicey TOHDIHKOONTZ of Window Rock, AZ, Maria TOHDIHKOONTZ of Pennsylvania, Cynthia TOHDIHKOONTZ of Ft. Defiance, and Geneva KONTZ of Honolulu, Hawaii; her, brother Joseph TIGER of Coweta; her sisters, Leona J. SULLIVAN of Broken Arrow, Ruth CRAWLEY of Dallas, TX, and Deloise JOHNSON of Coweta; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

SCOTT
Tulsa, Tulsa Co., OK
STILLWATER - Taylor SCOTT was born September 22, 1917 in Okemah, and died Jan. 29, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa. He was a dentist. Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at Strode Chapel with Rev. Michael CHACE and Drs. David COCKRELL and Benny BENSON officiating. Interment was in the national cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were John CATHEY, Gary STEWART, Gary LYFORD, Samuel DELAVON, Tommy GANT, Jay McVICKER, and John COOLEY.
His parents were Bruce and Effie (McKELLOP) SCOTT. Both parents, six brothers and two sisters, as well as his son Taylor preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Delores, his daughter, DeLavon SCOTT of Stillwater, grandchildren Aliza WEATHERMAN of Del City, and Dustin HARJO of Stillwater; and sisters Jean SAWATSKY of Viejo, CA, Virginia GREEN of McAlester, and Darlene McELYEA of Weleetka.

FORT GIBSON - Joseph WASHINGTON was born November 18, 1925 in Oktaha, OK, and died February 10, 1998. We was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp and a career truck driver. Services were held Feb. 13 at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with Rev. Dale CAREY officiating. Interment was in the national cemetery.
He was the son of Peter and Martha "Geegoowie" (BUSTER) WASHINGTON, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Joan; son Joe WASHINGTON, Jr., daughters Sandra CAREY of Porter, Janet WASHINGTON of Oktaha, and Jo Lynn SMITH of Enid; stepdaughters Karen TILTON of Checotah and Kathy SORRELL of Winchester, VA; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild

SAPULPA - Stanley Edward FISH was born February 24, 1937, in Graham. He died February 11, 1998, at his home in Tulsa. Wake services were held February 13, officiated by Rev. Bill ALEXANDER and Jimmy ALEXANDER, followed by funeral services February 14 at Red Fork Baptist Church with Tom Shaw officiating. Interment was in Ada Brown Family Cemetery in Dustin.
He was employed as a lineman with Public Service of Oklahoma, Tulsa. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars #1320 in Sapulpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George J. FISH and Betrice CHISHOLM; one brother, Melford FISH; and one sister, Colleen FISH. His survivors include his wife, Leona FISH, of the home; his son, Kenneth FISH of Jenks; his daughter, Kathy BEUCHLER of Bixby; three brothers, Victor FISH and Elmer FISH, both of Sand Springs, and Curtis FISH of Cherokee, NC; one sister, Laverne NORRIS of Turlock, CA; stepmother, Imogene FISH of Sand Springs; and four grandchildren, John EVANS of Jenks, Kendra FISH and Kenny FISH, Jr., both of Glenpool, and Amanda BUECHLER of Bixby.

GREENWAY
ARVIN, CA - Retha Lorein GREENWAY was born January 4, 1915, in Henryetta. She died December 12, 1997. No information was given on the date and place of the funeral or interment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Cordelia WATSON. She was survived by her daughter, Chenena VIETTI of Arvin; one sister, Lela BARLOW of Port Townsend, WA; five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew.

MITCHELL
HANNA - Mabeline MITCHELL was born August 11, 1949, in Hanna. She died July 27, 1997, at her home. Funeral services were held July 29 at Hillabee Baptist Church with Ray Christopher HARJO officiating. Pallbearers were Wesley BUTLER, Roman HILL, Wiley BUTLER, Jr., Vincent BUTLER, Andy Ray BUTLER, and Wesley BUTLER. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald BUTLER, Tony BUTLER, Roger BUTLER, and Randal BUTLER. Interment was in Hanna Cemetery.
She attended Hanna Public Schools and belonged to Pvkan Tallahassee Ceremonial Ground and attended church at Hillabee. She was employed at Marriott Hotel in Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George DEERE; and son, Franklin DEERE. She was survived by her parents, Jim and Eliza MITCHELL of Hanna; her two daughters, Lou Ann MITCHELL of Oklahoma City, and Jennifer MITCHELL of Tulsa; one son, George DEERE of Kansas; one brother, Larry MITCHELL of Hanna; one sister, Linda MILLER of Oklahoma City; and several grandchildren.

WATSON
OKEMAH - Thomas WATSON was born April 1, 1960, in Tulsa. He died February 25, 1998, in Tulsa.  Wake services were held February 27 followed by funeral services February 28, both held at Nuyaka Baptist Church, with Rev. Wilson HICKS and Eunice HILL officiating the funeral. Pallbearers were Chebonnie LINDSEY, Calvin HILL, Danny HENNEHA, Billy HILL, Luke FLYNN, and Frank LINDSEY. Honorary pallbearers were Speedy HARLEY, Richard BROWN, and Johnny POWELL. Interment was in Harjo Family Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sam WATSON; one son, Anthony WATSON; one daughter, Thomasena WATSON; one sister, Lucy Lindsey TIGER; grandparents, Clara MCINTOSH, Robert WATSON, and Jack and Susie Harjo HILL.
His survivors include his mother, Amy Hill WATSON, of the home; three brothers, Sandy WATSON of Oklahoma City, Buddy LINDSEY of Okemah, and Boone WATSON of Okemah; eight sisters, Susan KING of Weleetka, Delores FLYNN and Jackie HILL, both of Stilwell, Ann LINDSEY and Amy Lou HILL, both of Okemah, Katherine POWELL of Okmulgee, and Betty WATSON and Julius WATSON, both of Sapulpa; and other relatives and friends.

CALAMEASE
EUFAULA - Essie CALAMEASE was born March 8, 1931, in Huttonville. She died March 4, 1998, at Muskogee Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held March 7 at Merritt Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Samuel HARPER officiating and Rev. Clarence PIERCE, Jr., assisting. Interment was in Huttonville Cemetery.
She was a member of Huttonville Baptist Church and the American Legion in Wichita, KS. She had retired from Beech Air Craft in Wichita.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Harmon and Fannie Hutton CHILES; her husband, Calvin CALAMEASE, whom she married on Thanksgiving Day 1949 in Ft. Smith, AR; six brothers (sons?), Carl , Lewis, Harmon, Billy, Eddie, and Scott (no last names given); four sisters (daughters?), Willie Mae, Nonie, Alberta, and Lola Gean (no last names given); two brothers, Alfonso CHILES of Eufaula, and Charles CHILES of Fort Worth, TX; and sister, Queen Esther CALAMEASE of Eufaula.

HARJO
HENRYETTA - Sarah HARJO was born August 5, 1899, in Hanna. She died March 22, 1998, in Henryetta. Funeral services were held March 26 at Hickory Ground No. 1 Baptist Church, where she was a member. Rev. Mitchell TAYLOR and Christopher HARJO officiated the service. Pallbearers were Charlie HICKS, Keith BARNETT, Elliott BARNETT, Lucas TAYLOR, Walter TAYLOR, Jr., and Paul BARNETT. Honorary pallbearers were Benjamin BARNETT, Charles BARNETT, Anthony BARNETT, Franklin BARNETT and Danny LINDSEY. No information was given on the place of interment.
She was an original allottee and lived most of her life in Hanna. Preceding her in death were her parents, Freeland and Lavinia Aushwelli Green LINDSEY; her husband, Mitchell HARJO; three sons, John TIGER, Tom TIGER, and Jacob TIGER; two daughters, Mammie BARNETT and Minnie TIGER; and two brothers, Columbus LINDSEY and Buddy LINDSEY.
She was survived by her daughter, Edna MITCHELL of Henryetta; 26 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren, 40 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

MANLEY
SAPULPA - Bunny MANLEY was born March 6, 1901, in Eufaula. He died December 10, 1997, at his home in Oologah. Graveside services were held December 13 at Green Hill Memorial Gardens with Rev. Earl DUNSON and Oklahoma Masonic Indian Degree Team members officiating. Interment was in Green Hill Memorial Gradens.
He was an original allottee, a full-blood Maskoke who belonged to the Bear Clan and Tuskegee Tribal Town. He graduated from Chilocco and Bacone Indian Schools and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1970. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oologah. A Mason since 1944, his affiliations included membership and past president at Oologah Lodge #343; one of the original members of Oklahoma Indian Degree Team; past master of Daylight Lodge #542; Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, Tulsa Scottish Rite; Tulsa York Rite Bodies; past patron, Eastern Star; past Royal Patron of the Amaranth; as well as the Shriners.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Ruth MANLEY, whom he married in 1926, and his daughter, Mary Martin. He was survived by daughters, Tommy Jean NICKELL of Hazel Green, KY, and Bunny MANLEY and Judy PECK, both of Tulsa; 10 grandchildren, Joseph and Michael BEAR of Tulsa, Nancy RICHEY of Fayetteville, NC, Carol BAILEY of Oologah, Kelly NICKELL of Broken Arrow, Kathy FARNSWORTH of Tulsa, Ruby BRAVE BEAR of the home, Ben Nickell of Jackson, KY, Gary PECK of Skiatook, and Todd GERMAIN of Stillwater; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

WILSON
HOLDENVILLE - Bennie WILSON was born May 17, 1902, in Carson. He died February 11, 1998.  Funeral services were held February 16 at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Chapel with Rev. George JESSE officiating and Andrew JOHNSON assisting. Pallbearers were James GEORGE, Holloway HERROD, Samuel JOHNSON, Tommy JOHNSON, Jimmie JONES, and Jerry WALKER. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, Michael DICKEY, Billy SIMPSON, Keith LUMPMOUTH, Brian MILAM, Alan WILSON, Wendell WILSON, Kenneth WILSON, Mark WILSON, Jeff WILSON, Stephen WILSON, Roben Shane WILSON, Lance CULLY, Rex CULLY and Drake CULLY. Interment was in the Holdenville Cemetery.
He was an original enrollee, and a member of Tookparfka Baptist Church, baptized on Feb. 9, 1914 by Rev. John BRUNER and ordained a deacon on December 17, 1933, by Rev. George TIGER. After his retirement he devoted his time to church work. He was a regular patron of the Muscogee Nation Nutrition Center Program in Wetumka. He was recognized with a plaque for being the oldest in attendance at the 1991 Euchee Boarding School  Reunion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lizzie Alexander WILSON; his first wife, Molly BOWLEGS; sister, Martha Bettie DEGRAFFENREID; his son, Jack C. WILSON; daughter, Naomi Sue WILSON; two grandsons, Justin Brent WILSON and Ferris Craig WILSON; and great-granddaughter, Heather WILSON. He was survived by his wife of 56 years, Mollie Bear WILSON, of the home; five sons, Johnny WILSON of Kodoka, SD, Joe CULLY of Konawa, Stephen R. WILSON and Simon WILSON of Holdenville, and Paul WILSON of Midwest City; three daughters, Elsie Ruth DICKEY and Mary Jane MILAM, both of Midwest City, and Josephine WILSON of Ada; 29 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

YAHOLA
OKLAHOMA CITY - Daniel Boyd YAHOLA was born August 19, 1963, in Oklahoma City. He died March 3, 1998, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services were held March 6 at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Ray BREEDEN and Rev. Sam BARNETT officiating. Pallbearers were Bryan YAHOLA, Tony YAHOLA, Michael YAHOLA, Chris CORNELIUS, Jimmy CORNELIUS, and Nathaniel FRANCIS. Interment was in Sunnyland Cemetery, Del City.
He attended school at Oklahoma City Public Schools. He graduated from Jones Academy at Hartshorne in 1981, where he was active in football, baseball and boxing at Hartshorne High School. He was baptized at Little Springs Baptist Church in 1970. He was a welder by trade.  
Preceding him in death were his mother, Pauline YAHOLA, and five aunts. He was survived by his father, Miller YAHOLA of Oklahoma City; his wife, Benita Rivas YAHOLA, whom he married in July 1989; his children and stepchildren, Daniel YAHOLA, Jr., Amber YAHOLA, and Juan, Rosa, and Imelda AMARO, all of the home; brother, Sam YAHOLA of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Augustine FRANCIS, Mildred YAHOLA, and Patsy TIGER of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Bobby, Jessie, Alissa, and Kandalydia, (no last names given) all of the home; two aunts and five uncles.

GIVENS
WETUMKA - Benjamin Eunah GIVENS, Jr., was born July 28, 1976 in Claremore. He died February 3, 1998, at Columbia Regional Medical Center in Tulsa. Funeral services were held February 6 at Sand Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Harry ANDERSON and Bill HOBIA officiating. Pallbearers were Jesse GIVENS, Michael GIVENS, Sonny GIVENS, Tiger HOBIA, Ricky HOBIA, and Brian GIVENS. Interment was in Sand Creek Cemetery.
He graduated from Wetumka Public Schools in 1994, attended Rose State College in Midwest City, and Wes Watkins Vocational Technical School where he received nurse's aid certification. He was a Red Cross volunteer and had been cited for his service during the bombing of the Alfed P. Murrah Building. He was a longtime member of the Sand Creek Baptist Church were he served as church pianist. He was very active in mission programs with the Muscogee-Seminole-Wichita Baptist Association.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary GIVENS and Louis and Agnes HOBIA.
He is survived by his parents, Benjamin EUNAH and Martha Hobia GIVENS; two brothers, Louis GIVENS and Brian GIVENS of the home; three sisters, Semvthoye GIVENS, Mary GIVENS, and Justina GIVENS of the home; a nephew Justin RHINEHART of the home; grandfather, Eunah GIVENS; two great-uncles, Revs. Johnson ROBERTS of Dustin and James WESLEY of Wetumka; three great-aunts, Susie MARTINEZ, Minnie WESLEY, and Leona GIVENS, all of Wetumka; eight uncles, Jesse, Sonny, and Michael GIVENS of Wetumka, Rev. Bill HOBIA of Seminole, Melford HOBIA of Weleetka, Wilburn HOBIA of Oklahoma City, Tiger HOBIA of Weleetka, and Ricky HOBIA all of Wetumka; Four aunts, Millie SCOTT, June FIXICO, Mary GIVENS, and Fannie HOBIA, all of Wetumka; and several relatives and friends.

HERRON
COUNCIL HILL - Amburs HERRON, Jr., was born November 12, 1916, in Council Hill. He died March 18, 1998, in Tahlequah. The March 21 funeral services were officiated by Rev. Jerry SOUTHERN at Elm Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member. Elm Grove church members served as casketbearers. Interment was in Council Hill Cemetery.
He was a labor and a lifelong resident of the Council Hill area. He was also a member of the American Legion in Boynton.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Ester PRUITT, his parents, Amburs F. and Ola Brown HERRON, and his brother Woodrow HERRON.
He is survived by his sisster-in-law, Verda HERRON; three nieces; many great-nieces, nephews and cousins.

JOHN
SAPULPA - Gertrude JOHN was born August 1, 1913 in Sapulpa. She died March 12, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Wake services were on March 15 at the home, with Yuchi Tribal Speaker Newman LITTLEBEAR officiating. Funeral services were held March 16 at Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev. Newman KELLY officiating. Pallbearers were Daniel WOLFE, Ronald HILL, Russell HILL, Craig CASSADAY, Darby CASSADAY, and Eugene FREEMAN; honorary pallbearers were Luther TIGER, Paul TIGER, Cecil TIGER, Bill GIBSON, Tim BROWN, Rudy THOMAS, Gary THOMAS, and Mike HAMMER. Interment was in South Heights Cemetery.
She attended Haskell and Eufaula Boarding schools. She was direct decendent of Yuchi Chief Samuel W. BROWN, Sr. She was a homemaker.
She married Riley JOHN, deceased, in 1935. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Legus G. and Esther M. BROWN, her son Riley JOHN; and 12 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her three daughters, Juanita BOWMAN, Wanda HILL, and Jeniece WOLFE, all of Sapulpa; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

PERRYMAN
GLENDALE, CA - Georgia Mae Taylor PERRYMAN was born November 10, 1907 in Coweta She died March 30, 1998. Services were held at tje Church of the Recessional with Rev. George BRINCAT officiating. Pallbearers were Dreafus PERRYMAN, Rene' PERRYMAN, Bernie SALINAS, Dario PERRYMAN, Deidre Perryman VASQUEZ, and Victor CURRY. Family and friends served as honorary pallbearers. Interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, CA.
She attended Eufaula Boarding School and had been a foster parent for 20 years. She worked at a nurse's aid in Oklahoma and at St. Bernadine's Hospital, San Bernardino, CA.
Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Rosa Grayson TAYLOR, her son, Phillip PERRYMAN, and five siblings.
She is survived by her two sons, Dreafus PERRYMAN of Oregon and John PERRYMAN of the home; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

WALKINGSTICK
SAPULPA - Lucinda WALKINGSTICK was born January 19, 1916, in Holdenville. She died March 9, 1998. Prayer services were held at Smith Funeral Home March 10. Wake Services were held March 11 at Oakhurst Indian Fellowship Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at Smith Funeral Home on March 12 with Revs. Bill ALEXANDER and Jimmy ALEXANDER officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry WILSON, Alfred WILSON, James FACTOR, Bryan CANADY, Gerald WOFFORD, Johnny TIGER and Tom TIGER. Interment was in Greenhill Memorial Gardens in Sapulpa.
She was married to Henry WALKINGSTICK, deceased, in 1944. Also preceding her in death were her mother, Ida HARJO, and two sons, John WALKINGSTICK and Daniel WALKINGSTICK.
She is survived by her five children, Wynema WILLIAMS of Boise, ID, Frank JOHNSON and Leona HARJO, both of Oakhurst, Roman JOHNSON of Anadarka, Rowena JOHNSON of Albuquerque, NM, and Irene CREEK of Tulsa; two sisters, Alice STEVENS of Tulsa and Mattie Lou FACTOR of Sasakwa; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

BEAR
WILSON - Lucille Berryhill BEAR was born December 5, 1925, in Okemah. She died April 10, 1998, at Creek Nation Community Hospital in Okemah. Wake services were held April 12 with Rev. Edwin JIMBOY officiating, followed by funeral services April 13 at Forest Creek Mission with Rev. John LOWE officiating. No information was given on the place of interment.
She attended Dwight Mission Indian Training School in Vian until she was 14. She was baptized at Tokparfka Baptist Church by Sam BEAR. She bore 14 children, including four sets of twins, and in 1970 she was named Muscogee Nation Mother of the Year.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Amy BERRYHILL; two brothers; two sisters; her husband, ???? BEAR (no first name given); and one daughter. She was survived by her husband, Tom DEERE, whom she married on February 17, 1990, in Dallas, TX; her son, Phillip WILSON of Tulsa; her three daughters, Sarah PEREZ of White Sands, NM, Malinda WILSON of Spiro, and Polly WILSON of Mounds; one sister, Sarah MCNAC of Bixby; two brothers, Andrew SKEETER of Tulsa, and Joe Lee SKEETER of Mounds; and four grandchildren, Victoria, Vanessa, Houston, and Emma.

EUFAULA - Arnold Louis FIELDS was born September 11, 1945, in CA. He died April 19, 1998, at his home near Eufaula. Funeral services were held May 5 at Artussee Baptist Church, where he was a member. He was a graduate of Central High School in Tulsa and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father, Sunday FIELDS in 1980, and his stepfather, Amos BEAN, in 1997. He is survived by his mother, Pauline Manley BEAN of Eufaula; a daughter, Edna FIELDS of Tulsa; a brother, Elliott FIELDS of Washington; and one uncle, Fredreck MANLEY of Tulsa.

HOLDENVILLE - Julius Ryan MCCOSAR was born April 16, 1935, in Holdenville. He died April 18, 1998, at his home in Holdenville. YARDEKA - Velma Judy PIGEON was born August 24, 1922, in Henryetta. She died April 11, 1998, in Dustin. Wake services were held April 14 followed by funeral services April 15, both at Hickory Ground No. 1 Baptist Church. Officiating at the funeral were Rev. She was a homemaker and member of Trenton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie CHOTKEY; and her husband, Robert PIGEON. TULSA - Lena SCOTT was born July 18, 1972, in Claremore. She died March 21, 1998. Wake services were held March 25 at the home in Tulsa followed by funeral services March 26 at Moore’s Memorial Chapel in Tulsa. Interment was at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee.
She was graduated from Central High School in Tulsa , and from Tulsa Barber College. She also was a nurses aid.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marlene (no last name given). She was survived by her parents, Jane and Sam CHISSOE of Tulsa; her four children, Charles, Derrick, Emanuel, and Victoria SCOTT of the home; two sisters, Nitaya CHISSOE and Elizabeth CHISSOE, both of Tulsa; and two brothers, Samuel CHISSOE and Daniel CHISSOE, both of Tulsa.

SAPULPA -Bobby Eugene BROWN was born March 2, 1955. He died June 24, 1998, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. Wake services were held June 26 at the home of Lorene BROWN followed by graveside services June 27 at the Watashe Family Cemetery with Rev. John FIXICO officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry SMITH, Charles WATASHE, Sam SQUIRE, Donnie McQUIRE, Ben WATASHE, and Ronnie WATASHE. He graduated from Kellyville High School in 1973, worked at Creek Nation Bingo, and in California for three years.. He was a member of Polecat Ceremonial Ground.  
He was the son of Joe and Lorene BROWN. His father is deceased. He also was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; and his grandparents, Martha and Ralph DUNN. He was survived by his mother of the home; his son, Robert BROWN of Tulsa; brothers, Louis BROWN of Sapulpa, and Kenneth BROWN of Wewoka; one sister, Judy BROWN of Sapulpa; seven nieces, four nephews, and six great-nephews and nieces.

DOAKES
TULSA - Myrtle Hanson DOAKES was born February 1, 1911, in Okmulgee County. She died May 1, 1998. Funeral services were held May 9 at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was a member. Rev. Pollie WALLACE-RAGSDALE and Rev. Magnus W.T. SCOTT officiated the service. Pallbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment was in New Post Oak Cemetery in Beggs.
She attended Hanson Indian Heritage School and was engaged in careers in sewing, home economics and nursing. She was active in St. Paul’s where she had been a member for over 50 years. She was the recipient of many certificates and awards, including Charter Member Award, a humanitarian award presented by a human relations award committee, and numerous other award acknowledging her church and community activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lern and Katie HANSON; her husband, Sullivan DOAKES; and two sons and a daughter. She was survived by four children, Charles and Rubye, both of Tulsa, Joyce of Los Angeles, CA, and David of Diamond Bar, CA (no last names given); two sisters, Willie WHITE of Tulsa, and Vernon HARGRAVE of Beggs; 50 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

FREEMAN
WEWOKA - Joan Walker FREEMAN was born April 19, 1923, in Seminole County. She died May 5, 1998. Funeral services were held May 9 at Wewoka Indian Baptist Church with Rev. WELEETKA - Roley HAYNES was born May 16, 1900, in Hughes County. He died June 12, 1998, in Weleetka. Funeral services were held June 16 at Trenton Baptist Church with Rev. Harley BARNOSKI and Rev. Homer Lee EMARTHLE officiating. Pallbearers were Phillip DEO, Billy DEO, Leonard FISH, Johnny MICCO, Eugene MANLEY, and Paul JACOBS. Interment was at Hanna Cemetery.  
He attended school at Nuyaka Mission, was ordained to the ministry in 1929. He preached and served as pastor in several places. He had served as pastor of Trenton Baptist Church until his retirement. He also was employed during this time at a lumber company.
He was the son of James and Martha Tiger HAYNES, both deceased. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Spaniard HAYNES, whom he married in 1950. He was survived by his three sons, Bill DEO and Paul HAYNES, both of Weleetka, and Abe FIELDS of Hitchita; 12 grandchildren, Seven great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

HUNT
WELEETKA - Geneva Dink HUNT was born February 9, 1921, in Weleetka. She died August 10, 1998, at her home in Weleetka. Funeral services were held August 14 at First Free Will Baptist Church, where she was active, with Rev. Donnie LeFORCE and Rev. Pascal BEVAN officiating. Pallbearers were Gerrol ADKINS, Jerry WILLIAMSON, Mike HAYES, Bobby ADAMS, Lyndon HARJO, and Jacob LEWIS. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery.
She attended Weleetka Public Schools and was employed with the Adkins Nursing Home in Weleetka for 30 years. She had served as a Sunday school teacher and secretary-treasurer with the Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Jackson and Augusta Stephenson BURDEN; her husband, James HUNT, whom she married December 12, 1946; and a grandson, J.J. (no last name given). She was survived by her daughter, Donna Hunt LEE; her son, Eddie HUNT; a brother, Bill BURDEN; an aunt, Lucille NUSBAUM; and two stepgrandchildren, Kyle and J.W. NOBLETOWN - Bettie Bernice MCNAC was born March 16, 1903, in Muskogee County and died August 8, 1998. OKMULGEE - Martha Lee MILLER was born March 28, 1918, in Okmulgee, and died June 4, 1998, at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services were held at Beckman Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, Texas, officiated by Rev. David FETTER.
She married Eugene H. MILLER on Nov. 6, 1948, at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. Preceding her in death were her parents Stanton R. and Jessie Mae Erman MORTON. Survivors include three sisters, Marjorie DOTY of Oklahoma City, Betty POPLIN of Seminole, and Frieda POPLIN of Midwest City.

She was survived by her husband, Morris BARNETT, whom she married in 1954 in Ft. He graduated from Haskell High School, Lawrence, KS, served in the U.S. Navy, and attended college in Miami. He was a truck drive for Bemack and a member of the Creek Nation Rodeo Association. He was baptized a member of Snake Creek Baptist Church in 1996 by Rev. George DOYLE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lumbar SCOTT and Della YAHOLA; his wife, Mary Kasler SCOTT, whom he married August 16, 1955, in Tulsa; and two brothers. He was survived by his son, Brummett Delray SCOTT of Glenpool; three sisters, Lucy Mae MARSEY and Nellie CHASTAIN, both of Wetumka, and Fanny MILLER of Marlow; and one granddaughter, Lakota Ray SCOTT of Tulsa.

WAGGONER
EUFAULA - Ruth Evelyn Drew WAGGONER was born July 27, 1926, in Eufaula. She died September 15, 1998. A song service was held September 17 at Tuskegee Baptist Church followed by a funeral service September 18 at Ewing Cemetery with Rev. Bunny HILL officiating, assisted by Rev. Fred DREW. Interment was in the Ewing Family Cemetery.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Claremore, a mother and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Daniel and Ora Ewing DREW; her husband, Leonard WAGGONER, whom she married April 9, 1949, in Tucumcari, NM; two sisters, Eloise McCARTY and Leola DREW; two brothers, Robert DREW and David DREW.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna HOBBS of Claremore; her two sons, John WAGGONER of Okemah, and Leonard WAGGONER, Jr., of Okmulgee; one sister, Nina Jean NATORA of Eufaula; one brother, Fred DREW; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

WATASHE
OAKHURST - Madeline Bruner WATASHE was born December 21, 1930, in Tulsa. She died October 5, 1998. A wake service was held October 7 followed by funeral services October 8, both at the Oakhurst Baptist Church. Officiating the funeral were Rev. George DOYLE, Rev. Jim ALEXANDER, and Rev. Bill ANDERSON. Pallbearers were Ralph GUEVARA, Jr., Dondi WILDCAT, Randall SAMUELS, Elisha WATASHE, Ray SAMUEL, and Levi WATASHE. Honorary pallbearers were Daniel BRUNER, Joe BRUNER, Hoovy PEREZ, Gano PEREZ, and Dean WATASHE. Interment was at the Bruner Family Cemetery.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Senora Rogers and Dave BRUNER; her husband, Louis Francis WATASHE, Sr.; one sister, Minerva FREEMAN; one grandson, Isaac L. WATASHE; and three great-grandchildren, Amy GUEVARA, Jesse MOUNCE, and Jalisa R. TECUMSEH. She was survived by 11 children, 51 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four sisters; and five brothers.

BEAVER
CUSSETAH - William “Oscar” Harry BEAVER was born November 23, 1932, in Okmulgee and died October 13, 1998. Funeral services were held October 16 at Big Cussetah United Methodist Church. Officiating ministers were Thomas ROUGHFACE and David LONG, Jr. Pallbearers were Brant BEAVER, Brent BEAVER, William P. BEAVER, Gino BEAVER, Del Vince BEAVER, John WITTMAN, Drew WITTMAN, and Kyle WITTMAN. Burial was a Big Cussetah Cemetery.
He attended Morris Public Schools, the University of Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma State Technical School’s radio-television electronics program  in 1957. He played sports in both high school and college, coached the “Red Feathers” women’s fastpitch softball team for several years, worked in youth sports as well as senior citizens organizations, and was very active at Big Cussetah Church all his life.
Preceding him in death were both of his parents, John and Della (FOX) BEAVER, and two siblings, John BEAVER, Jr. and Juanita BEAVER.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche YEAGER; daughters Della WALKING SKY of TX, Terri BEAVER of OK, Anita DANEY, Reta BEAVER, Leila BEAVER, and Karen GEYER all of  KS; brothers R. Terry BEAVER and Mose A. BEAVER of OK; sisters Letha RUTHERFORD of AZ, Cora BERRYHILL , Hannah BEAVER, Miley Ann HARGIS, Sally WITTMAN, and Martha Jean FROMAN all of OK; nine grandchildren; an uncle Benjamin BEAVER of OK, and an aunt, Sallie MOORE of OK.

BILLY
CUSSETAH - Pauline "Woxie" Pakoska (Bland) Billy died November 17, 1998 at St. Francis Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1913 near Schulter to Noah and Evaline (Martin) PAKOSKA (Bland). She was Alligator clan and Kvsetv (Cussetah) Tribal Town.
Services were held October 16 at Big Cussetah United Methodist Church. Revs. John LOWE and Harry LONG officiated. Wake services were held Nov. 10 at Robert Simons Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Revs. Newman FRANK and Sammy CHUPCO.
Pall bearers were: Michael BERRYHILL, Perry BERRYHILL, Alfred BERRYHILL, Teddy McHENRY, and George ALMERIGI. Honorary pall bearers were Leo BLAND, Woodrow BURGESS, Jerry MONDAY, and Steven WATKINS. Burial was at Big Cussetah Cemetery.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Nathan BILLY in 1994, her grandfather, March MONDAY of Prairie Bell, her parents Noah and Evaline Martin PAKOSKA (Bland), sisters Blanche BERRYHILL and Helen POOLE.
Survivors are two aunts: Susie MONDAY of Morris and Edna YAHOLA of Okemah, five nephews: Thomas BERRYHILL, of Duck Creek, Michael BERRYHILL of Henryetta, Perry BERRYHILL of Broken Arrow, and Elliott BERRYHILL of Colorado Springs, CO; one niece, Rita WILLIAMS of Wilson Community; one cousin Leo BLAND of Glenpool and numerous other nieces, nephews and relatives.

GOUGE
HOLDENVILLE - Mary Lucille GOUGE died Oct. 3, 1998 at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Holdenville, OK. She was born June 25, 1905 in Cromwell to parents Willie and Annie Smith YAHOLA. Funeral services were held at Little Quarsarty Baptist Church, officiated by Fred LINDSEY and Jim FREEMAN. Interment was at the Yahola Family Cemetery.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Fred GOUGE, her parents, her daughter Mary Rose GOUGE, one sister and three brothers.
She is survived by her daughter Della CHERRY of Holdenville, her four grandchildren Ronda CHERRY of Holdenville, Robin HARRISON of Glenpool, Ran Dee and Isaac CHERRY of the home, her six great-grandchildren: Cody WHETSTINE of the home, Sara and Rachel VANCE and Megan SANDERS, all of Holdenville, and Tyler and Madison HARRISON of Glenpool; three nephews, Don YAHOLA of Lebanon, TN, Thomas YAHOLA of Wetumka and Jim WOLFE of Sapulpa, as well as other relatives and friends.

GRIFFITH
GLENPOOL - Shellie Barber GRIFFITH, the oldest recorded tribal citizen of the Muscogee Nation, died November 30, 1998, at the age of 103.
She was born September 7, 1895, in Indian Territory, south of what is now Glenpool, OK to parents Robert T. and Alice Ann BARBER. She was the daughter of Broken Arrow Tribal Town.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her paternal grandparents, Silas H. and Sarah Posey BARBER, and her paternal great-grandparents, Benjamin and Liza Berryhill POSEY, her husband Sim GRIFFITH, and two sons, Earl and Howard.
Survivors include four granddaughter; one grandson; four great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; one great-great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

FISH
CHEROKEE COUNTY - James FISH was born in Okfuskee County, January 24, 1942. He died July 28,
1998. Funeral services were held August 1 at Glorieta Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Terry Fish, Jimsey
Fish, Mitchell Fish, Jr., John Fish, Alex Fish, Jr., and John Hulwa. He was buried at Greenleaf Baptist
Church Cemetery.
He was survived by his wife; one daughter, Melanie FISH; one son, William James FISH; stepchildren, Terri
TIGER and Keith TIGER; brothers, Mitchell FISH and Pete FISH; sister, Mary; eleven grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews.

HARJO
TULSA - Mosey HARJO was born December 2, 1936, in Okemah. He died October 28, 1998, at St. John
Medical Center, Tulsa. Funeral services were held October 31 at Little Quarsarty Baptish Church.
Pallbearers were Willie Hale, Carlan Thompson, Amon Deere, Buster Washington, Church McHenry and
Chebon Buck. Honoarary pallbearers wee Tom Lindsey, Andy Hale, Amos Noon, Bobby Russell and Tom
King.
He was the son of Parnosky HARJO and Sara BUNNER. He married Loretta WASHINGTON on March
20, 1962. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Tammy HARJO; son Jerry HARJO; three
grandchildren; brothers Thomas HARJO and Ben HARJO; sisters Lucille, Lenora, Kay, Jeanie, Carolyn, and
Joy (no last names given); and numberous relatives and friends.

HAYNES
?? - Roman HAYNES was born January 1, 1923. He died July 22, 1998. Funeral services were held at
Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers were Darwyn Stevens, James Morgan, David Morgan, Jeremy
Hall, and Jim Kelly. Burial was at Green Hill Memorial Gardens.
No information was given on his parents. He was married June 20, 1953, to Shirley LOCKLEAR, who
survives. Other survivors include four children: Richard Thomas HAYNES, Randall Lloyd HANEYS,
Sherrie Lynn HAYNES, and Pamela Rose HAYNES; one brother, Newman Arthur HAYNES; and one
sister, Rosetta MORGAN; eight grandchidlren and one great-grandchild.

MOORE
TULSA - Marcy McKinley MOORE died October 26, 1998, at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. No
information was given on his birth date and place. Funeral services were held at Concharty United
Methodist Church with full military honors and were conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft.
Sill. Pallbearers were Mike Headrick, Allen Lewis, Dustin Headrick, Randy Fleetwood, Jimmie Fleetwood,
Freddie Fleetwood, and John Randolph Moore IV. Interment was at the Bruner Family Cemetery.
He was the son of William N. and Leona M. MOORE, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by
brothers, William McKinley MOORE, N.B. MOORE, Kelly MOORE, Kenneth MOORE, and his twin
brother Maurice William MOORE.
Moore was married to Agnes FLEETWOOD on July 15, 1963. She survives. Other survivors include five
brothers: John R. MOORE, Thomas E. MOORE, Lawrence R. MOORE, Edwin S. MOORE, Sr., and
Glenn M. MOORE.

SCOTT
BRISTOW - Billy James SCOTT was born August 30, 1934, in Wetumka. He died October 17, 1998, in
Sapulpa. Services were held at Sand Creek Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Richmond Carr and Judson
Deere. Pallbearers were Michael Lindsey, Arron Culley, Denniss Culley , Reuben Culley, James Johnson,
and Farron Culley.
He was the son of Henry SCOTT and Jemima YARGEE. On July 29, 1962, he married Nannie May
LINDSEY, who survives.
