HINKLE
Charlie Tillman Hinkle, born December 30, 1898 in Pocahonta, Arkansas to
William M. and Alice ( UPSHAW ) Hinkle died August 31, 2001 in Guthrie.
He married Phoebe Ann HAGAR on Oct. 23, 1922 in Chandler. She preceded him
in death Aug. 29, 1923. He married Jewel SNEED on July 6, 1927 in Guthrie.
She preceded him in death Dec. 23, 1994.
Charlie was also preceded in death by sons, Carl and Leon Hinkle,
daughter-in-law, Tillie Hinkle, one granddaughter, Micalin Sue STATEN, four
brothers and four sisters.
MELTON
Donald Lee Melton, born April 6, 1919 in Oklahoma City to James Leslie and
Gustava ( HAYNES ) Melton died August 30, 2001 in Edmond. Don was a WWII
veteran, serving as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member
of the American Legion LeBron Post No. 58, the IOOF Lodge, the Guthrie Masonic
Lodge No. 35, Guthrie Consistory, a 33rd degree Mason and KCCH. He graduated
in 1937 from Classen High School.
Don married Ellen Kaye PATTERSON on May 17, 1941, she preceded him in death
April 6, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers,
Gordon and Glen.
LEONARD
Carl Adophe (C.A.) Leonard died August 30, 2001, at the Driskell House in
Guthrie, Oklahoma, at the age of 87. Mr. Leonard was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma,
but spent most of his childhood in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where he became a
baker at his father's wholesale bakery. He married Emma Lee Godbey of Ardmore,
Oklahoma, in Dallas, Texas on July 26, 1936. They lived in Chickasha, Muskogee
and Ponca City, Oklahoma; Phoenix and Sun City, Arizona; and-for the past
five years-Guthrie, Oklahoma. For twenty years he operated the Tasty Bakery
in Ponca City, during which time he served in several positions for the Oklahoma
Retail Bakers Association, including statewide President.
Mr. Leonard was an active lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his brother, Eason Leonard, of Carmel, California, by his
three sons and their wives, Joe and Karen Leonard of Edmond, Jack and Karen
Kay Leonard of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Bob and Connie Leonard of Eugene,
Oregon. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial and burial service for Mr. Leonard, and for his wife (who died
February 17, 2001) will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Guthrie,
Oklahoma, at 2 P.M. on Saturday, September 29. Funeral arrangements have
been handled by the Davis Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Guthrie First United
Methodist Church or to World Neighbors, Oklahoma City, or to the charity
of the donor's choice
