ZUMWALT
Mabel Catlin Zumwalt of Tecumseh, Okla., was born Nov. 12, 1906 in Pineville,
Mo. to Bert and Meda STORY CATLIN, and passed away Feb. 28, 1998 at the age
of 91.
Mabel's family moved to Vinita in 1909, where she was reared and graduated
from high school. She has lived in Tecumseh since 1985. She married Virgil
"Wade" Zumwalt in Vinita, Okla., in 1926. He preceded her in death in 1982.
She and her husband worked in the grocery business for 30 years in Vinita.
Together they published the Afton American for four years before publishing
the Stilwell Democrat Journal for 25 years. Mable was a member of the Trinity
Baptist Church of Vinita and the First United Methodist Church of Stilwell,
Daughters of the American
Revolution, and was a hospital volunteer in Stilwell. She was preceded in
death by: her parents; her husband; a daughter Patty Wade ZUMWALT in 1931;
a brother Hugh CATLIN and two sisters, Lois WAUGH and Christine NORMAN.
She is survived by two sons, Robert and Jerry, both of Okla,; two sisters,
Laura of Okla., and Bertie of Ill.; four grandchildren, Kurt, Kristin and
Gretchen, all of Okla., and Robin of Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Patty,
Phillip, Collin and Ben.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 4, at the Fairview Cemetery
in Vinita with Will Busch of Trinity Baptist Church of Vinita officiating.
Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh was in charge of arrangements.
NUTT
Funeral services for Thomas Grant "Simp" NUTT, 58, of Hulbert, were held
Wednesday, March 4, in Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wilburn Redfearn
officiating. Interment followed in Blue Springs Cemetery under the direction
of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Serving as pallbearers were: Sam ADAIR,
Francis NEZ, Anthony TRIMBLE, Herbert DAVIS, Gary ALRED and Vince VESTAL.
Honorary pallbearers were Dewayne FARMER and Bill BAILEY.
Tom was born Dec. 18, 1939 in Braggs, Okla., the son of the late Virgil Russell
and Edna Mae REDFEARN NUTT, and died Monday, March 2, 1998 at his home in
Hulbert, Okla. A lifetime resident of the area, Tom was a mechanic and truck
builder with Crane Carrier and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was married
to Belinda Joyce CLEESEN on June 1, 1996 in Tahlequah, Okla.
He is survived by: his wife; three daughters, Linda, Rene and Peggy, and
their mother, Joy, all of Okla.; three sisters, Deloris and Shirley, both
of Okla., and Dorothy of Ark.; one brother Marvin of Utah; seven grandchildren,
Melissa, Samantha, Cody, Wesley, Deena, Caitlin and Mitchell.

THOMPSON
Floyd Augusta THOMPSON, Jr., son of Floyd Augusta THOMPSON and Lillie ETHERIDGE
THOMPSON, was born June 4. 1919 in Fairfield, Texas, and departed from this
life to be with his Lord on March 5, 1998 at Washington Regional Medical
Center in Fayetteville, Ark., at the age of 78 years and 9 months.
Floyd served his first military enlistment in the U.S. Army. After being
discharged, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country during World War
11. Floyd was married to Hazel HUNTER on Oct. 21, 1939 in San Antonio, Texas,
and from this union were born three children: Darrell, Tommy and Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by: his wife, Hazel
of the home; three sons, Darrell of Texas, Tommy of Ill., and Michael of
Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Gyles of Evansville, Ark., officiating. Interment
followed at the Stilwell Cemetery.
MORTON
Funeral services for Jencie FLANAGAN MORTON, 91, of Stilwell, were held Friday,
March 7, at 2 p.m. at Hart Memorial Chapel with Rev. Roger Haney and Dr.
R. Dwayne Conner officiating. Burial was at the Stilwell City Cemetery under
the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
Jencie FLANAGAN MORTON was born to Daniel Milton FLANAGAN and Bertha Ellen
SAYLOR on July 4, 1906, in Indian Territory, in what is now Sequoyah County.
She married William Guy MORTON on July 5, 1923. He preceded her in death
Oct. 3, 1966. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers,
Dallas, Dean and Thel FLANAGAN; and a great-grandson, Alexander JASER.
She is survived by; two sons, Billy Lynn and Neil of Okla.; eight grandchildren:
Lynda, Stephen, Patricia, Joyce, Camille and Nason, all of Okla., Stanley
of Ark., and Shawna of New Mexico; and by 13 grandchildren: Cara, Mike, Daniel,
Cate, Wade, Will, Emily, Karol and Nick of Okla., Holly and Nicole, both
of Ark., and Jamil of New Mexico; and by one great-great-granddaughter, Brittany
of Ark. She is also survived by one sister, Maud and one brother, Olen, both
of Okla. At the time of her husband's death, they lived in Sallisaw, Okla.
After his death she moved to Stilwell, Okla., where she lived until her death
on March 4, 1998. She was a charter Foster Grandparent and worked with that
program at Stilwell Schools, Maryetta Schools, Watts Schools, and Cave Springs
Schools until her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
PERRIN
Jimmie Dean PERRIN, son of J.D. PERRIN and Jeffie Lee OLIVER PERRIN, was
born Oct. 13, 1939 in Queen City, Texas, and departed this life to be with
his Lord on March 7, 1998 in Grove, Okla., at the age of 59 years, 4 months
and 21 days.
Jimmie served in the Air Force and was a self-employed property manager for
many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by: one son, Scott
of Ill,; one daughter Stephanie of Fla.; two brothers, Jay of Okla., and
David of La. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, March 9, at the
Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral
Home of Stilwell.
BRIGGS
Newman Lee BRIGGS, son of John COOMBES and Mary Mae FOURKILLER COOMBES, was
born Oct. 30, 1941 in Stilwell, Okla., and departed this life to be with
his Lord after a lengthy illness at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort
Smith, Ark., on March 3, 1998 at the age of 56 years, 4 months and 2 days.
Newman is survived by: his parents, John and Mary COOMBES; two daughters
Lisa and Laura, of Okla.; five grandchildren, Amanda, Amber, Jennifer, Kimberly
and Brandon, all of Okla.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, 1998 in the Roberts/Reed-Culver
Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Darrell Lacie officiating. Interment followed
at the Reese Cemetery.
CURTIS
Graveside services for Lerah G. CURTIS, 89, of Harrah were held March 13,
at the New Hope Cemetery in Meeker, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral
Service in Harrah.
Miss CURTIS was born Oct. 17, 1908, in Sallisaw, to Felix Wade and Maude
Alma (ADAIR) CURTIS. She died Tuesday March 10, 1998.
Survivors include one sister, Nola Mae; two nephews, Mark and Dick ; and
one niece, Mary Jane.

MILLICAN
Ethel Bernita MILLICAN, daughter of William WHITMIRE and Mary Alice BROWN
WHITMIRE, was born Dec. 18, 1925 in Westville, Okla., and departed this life
into eternity at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 19 days. She was preceded
in death by: her parents; first husband Burlan Gene BUTLER; and second husband
Auzzie D. MILLICAN; two brothers, Hollis WHITMIRE and Jewel WHITMIRE.
She is survived by: two sons, Dale of Okla., and Larry of Ark.; three daughters,
Karen of Ark., and Gail and Sandra, both of Okla.; one sister-in-law, Eva;
ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 13, 1998 at the Roberts Funeral
Home Chapel in Westville with Brother Claude McGee officiating. Interment
followed at the Old Green Cemetery.
CASEY
Karen Irene RUTHERFORD CASEY was born Dec. 12, 1959 to Paul J. RUTHERFORD
and Helen Irene MATTOX RUTHERFORD. She passed away on Monday, March 9, 1998
in McAlester, Okla.
Karen was born and reared in Stilwell, Okla. She graduated from Stilwell
High School in 1978. After graduation she attended Northeastern State University.
On Sept. 8, 1979 she was married to Randall Blake CASEY of Pryor, Okla. Karen
was preceded in death by: her mother Helen Irene MATTOX RUTHERFORD; her
grandparents Wilburn E. and Pearl RUTHERFORD, and James R. and Katie K.
MATTOX.
She is survived by her husband; her father; two brothers, Paul David and
Bradley James, both of Okla. Funeral services were held Friday, March 13,
at the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home Chapel in Stilwell with Brother Aaron
Barton officiating. Interment followed at the Stilwell City Cemetery.
SCOTT
Lizzie PUMPKIN SCOTT, daughter of George PUMPKIN and Betsy ROSS, was born
Jan. 9, 1927 in Welling, Okla., and departed from this life to be with her
Lord after a lengthy illness March 9, 1998 at Westville Nursing Home at the
age of 71 years and 2 months.
Lizzie was a charter member of the Fourkiller Baptist Church of Stilwell
and was a very dedicated church member. Lizzie was married to Charley SCOTT,
Sr. in 1946 and from this union eight children were born: Charley, Jr., Jimmie
Joe, John, Shirley, Betty, Sharon, Marie and Lydia. She was preceded in death
by her parents, her husband Charley, and two sons, Jimmie Joe and Charley,
Jr.
She is survived by: one son, John of Okla., five daughters, Shirley, Sharon,
Betty, Marie and Lydia, all of Okla.; one brother Waldo GRITTS of Calif.;
and six grandchildren, Scottie, Charles, Tonya, Mathew, Crystal and Mary
Lynn.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 12, at the Fourkiller Baptist
Church in Stilwell with Brother Raymopnd Glass officiating. Interment followed
at the Tyler Springs Cemetery.
KESTER
Lonnie Leslie KESTER, son of W.I. KESTER and Bessie YARBOROUGH KESTER, was
born Oct. 22, 1922 in Stilwell, Okla., and departed this life to be with
his Lord on March 14, 1998 in Stilwell at the age of 74 years, 4 months and
19 days.
Lonnie was married to Vivian "Reecie" PATTERSON, June 12, 1948 in Auburn,
Wash. From this union three children were born, Charles, Kenny and Jannet.
Lonnie was an Army veteran of World War 11. He was proud to have served his
country in time of need. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine
Liberation Ribbon. Lonnie was a deacon in the Bell Baptist Church for more
than 44 years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church for the past
year. He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Floyd KESTER;
two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is survived by; his wife; two sons, Charles and Kenny of Okla.; one daughter
Jannet of Okla.; three brothers, Clarence of Okla., Cline of Texas, and J.C.
of Mo.; four sisters, Juanita and Effie of Okla., Clara of Md., and Cecil
of Mo.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 17, in the First Baptist Church
with Bro. Roger Haney and Rev. Eugene Kester officiating. Interment followed
in the Stilwell City Cemetery.
HERBER
Peggy J HERBER, daughter of Aaron S. WHITENER and Oleta Neff WHITENER, was
born Sept. 22, 1934 and departed this life March 4, 1998 in Corpus Christi,
Texas.
She is survived by: her husband, Milton; two daughters, Leann and Robin,
both of Texas; four grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Dianna and Clayton all
of Texas; her mother Oleta of Okla.; one brother Aaron of Texas; two sisters
Janeth and Mildred, both of Texas; two uncles Dennis of Okla., and Jimmy
of Calif.; three aunts, Novella and Daisy, both of Okla., and Simon of
Okla.
She was buried at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, Texas, near her
father's grave.

PADGETT
Emma PADGETT, daughter of Abraham GUINN and Mary TAYLOR GUINN, was born July
29, 1908 in Stilwell, Okla., and departed this life to be with her Lord March
20, 1998 in Skiatook, Okla., at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 19 days.
Emma moved to Skiatook in 1997 to be near her daughter. She was a resident
of the Skiatook Nursing Home. She was married to Perry PADGETT in 1945 and
from this union were born two children - Jeanie and Jane. Mrs. PADGETT is
preceded in death by: her parents; husband; daughter Jane STEPHENSON; two
sisters, L.D. WILLIAMS and Carrie BLACKBIRD; and one infant brother Andy
GUINN.
She is survived by: one daughter, Jeanie of Okla.; one brother Wayne of Calif.;
two sisters, Leta May of Okla. and Geraldine of N.D.; three grandchildren,
Michael, Ronald and Diane, all of Okla.; and one great-granddaughter, Kimberly
of Okla.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 24, at the Roberts/Reed-Culver
Funeral Home Chapel in Stilwell with Rev. Earl Dunson of Glenpool officiating.
Interment was in the Stilwell City Cemetery.
