SPINKS
Tressie Mae SPINKS was born August 20, 1936 to John David and Gladys INMAN
SPINKS in Westville, and departed this life to be with her Lord on June 26,
1998 at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 61 years, 10 months
and 5 days.
Tressie married G.B. EAGLETON on September 2, 1955 in Camden, Okla. They
made their first home in Tulsa for six years before moving to Westville in
1961, where they have resided since.
Unto their union were born three children, Sheryl, Sheila and David.Tressie
was a a member of the Westville Pentecostal Holiness Church forthe past 37
years, where she served as church secretary. Tressie felt extremely blessed
to have all of her children and grandchildren attend the same church with
her.
She leaves behind a loving family consisting of her faithful husband of almost
43 years, G. B. EAGLETON of the home; three children, Sheryl, Sheila and
David; seven beautiful grandchildren, Jeremy, Jordon, Ashleigh, Melissa,
Philip, Chad and Kristan. She is also survived by one sister, Ida Sue of
Mo., and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, and many friends.
Tressie is preceded in death by both parents, John David and Gladys SPINKS,
and one brother Jack SPINKS.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at 10 a.m. in the Roberts
Funeral Home Chapel in Westville with Bro. Lynn ICE of Moore and Bro. Audie
VAUGHN of Westville officiating. Interment followed in the Westville Cemetery
under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
JONES
Nora Bell RHOADES JONES departed this mortal life to live a beautiful life
with our heavenly father. She was born to Georgia Ann and George Washington
RHOADES on June 4, 1909, and died on July 4, 1998. She lived to be 89 years
and 1 month.
She is preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Pete Madison JONES;
one infant daughter, several grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Nora is survived by her children, Paul and Orene of Ark., Silas and Eunice,
Mary and George, Ruth and Jose, Martha, Ella and Tommy, Daisy and Kenny and
Connie and Orville, all of Okla.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and a host of other relatives, and many friends.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at 10 a.m. at
the Chuculate Cemetery, with Rev. Robert HEIDT officiating, under the direction
of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Stilwell.
LONG
Grace LONG daughter of William Alec LONG and Nora GILBERT, was born January
6, 1919 in Wetumka, and departed this life to be with her Lord on June 30,
1998 at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital at the age of 79 years, 5 months
and 23 days.
Grace has been a long-time resident of the Westville and Lincoln area. She
is preceded in death by both parents; her step-father, Alexander CALDER;
one sister, Anna WOODUM and one brother, Alfred LONG.
She is survived by two nieces, Patricia and Taressa; one sister-in-law,
Geraldine; one great-niece, Kimberly; one great-nephew, Jack; and a great-great
nephew Jack, all of Ariz.; and a host of friends.
Graveside services were held Thursday, July 1, 1998, at 10 a.m. at the Stilwell
City Cemetery with Bro. Frank BUTTERFLY officiating, under the direction
of Roberts Funeral Home of Westville.
MAYS
Funeral services for John Croley "Bill" MAYS were held Monday, June 6, 1998
at 10 a.m. in the Hart Memorial Chapel with Brother Bill ROUNDTREE officiating.
Interment followed in the Bunch Cemetery.
He was born June 11, 1924 in Bunch to Jim Terrel MAYS and Judy Hanna MCCOY
MAYS. He passed from this life Friday, July 3, 1998 at Memorial Hospital
in Stilwell at the age of 74 years and 22 days.
He served in the navy aboard the U.S.S. North Carolina in the South Pacific
during W.W.11. He was awarded 13 major battle stars and received an honorable
discharge from the Navy. He was also a member of the V.F.W.
He was married to Mary Lois MCLEMORE on June 21, 1947 in Stilwell. He had
made his home in Stilwell for 19 years and was of the Christian faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Judy MAYS; one brother,
Gill Fin MAYS and one sister, Fanny MAYS CHRISTIE.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lois, of the home; one son, Johnny, of Okla.;
one daughter, Pamela of Kansas; two grandsons, Jonathan and Travis, both
of Kansas; one granddaughter, Shana of Okla.; one great-grandson, also of
Okla.;five sisters, Grace, Polly, Cora, Angeline and Delores, all of Okla.
PROCTOR
Graveside services for Jackson Fredrick PROCTOR, 81, of Tahlequah will be
held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 1998 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery
with Rev. Charley CAREY officiating, and under the direction of Reed-Culver
Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Pallbearers will be Arthur ROASTINGEAR, Martin
ROASTINGEAR, Jackson ROASTINGEAR and Kenneth HOGNER.
Mr. PROCTOR was born December 25, 1926 in Stilwell, the son of George and
Sallie FEATHER PROCTOR, and he died July 5, 1998 in Tahlequah.
Mr. PROCTOR attended Sequoyah schools. He entered the U.S. Army on November
3, 1939 and was discharged September 27, 1945. After the military, Jackson
worked on ranches in Wyoming and Colorado. He moved back to Tahlequah around
1984.
Mr. PROCTOR was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his close
friends, Christine ROASTINGEAR of Tahlequah and Ann KETCHELL of Tulsa and
a host of friends and loved ones.
RACKLEFF
Laura June RACKLEFF was born November 16, 1959 in Tahlequah. She passed from
this life Saturday, July 4, 1998 in Tulsa at the age of 38 years. Laura had
been a Tulsa resident since 1992. She was a school bus driver for Broken
Arrow Public Schools, and a member of Rhema Bible Church.
She is survived by her husband, Victor RACKLEFF; three sons, Michael, Christopher
and Codee, all of Okla.; one daughter, Lisa, also of Okla.; grandmother,
Irene; granddaughter, Mariah Nicole; her mother Frieda of Okla.; father,
Lloyd of Okla.; three sisters, Anita and Sandy of Okla. and Diana of Wis.;
three brothers, Mitchell, David and Alan, all of Okla; two step-sisters,
one step-brother, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
POWELL
Lillie Myrtle POWELL, 89, longtime resident of Okmulgee, died in Bartlesville
on Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at her daughter's residence following a several
month illness. Services will be held Thursday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the Kelly
Funeral Chapel in Okmulgee with Rev. Jim EBY of Stilwell officiating. Interment
will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of Kelly Funeral
Service of Okmulgee. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made
to the Hospice Association of Oklahoma.
Mrs. POWELL was born October 9, 1909 in Bristow, Okla., to Harmon and Cordella
BISHOP. She married Jack POWELL, Sr. on August 26, 1926 in Bristow and later
helped her husband establish Powell's Meat Packing Company in Okmulgee. She
performed the role of financial bookkeeper until the sale of the company
following Mr. POWELL's death. Mrs. POWELL was an active member of the First
Assembly of God Church in Okmulgee.
Survivors include: her two sons, Jack and Johnny, both of Oka.; two daughters,
Betty and Pat, both of Okla.; 16 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack POWELL, Sr., on May 12, 1972.
GLASS
Funeral services for Lynch Tom GLASS were held Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at
2 p.m. at the Oakridge Baptist Church with Rev. Richard PICKUP and Rev. Jerry
NOFIRE officiating. Interment followed in the Oakridge Cemetery under the
direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
He was born December 21, 1910 in Adair County to John T. GLASS and Emma LIVERS
GLASS. He passed from this life June 26, 1998 at the age of 87 years 6 months
and 5 days. He was a farmer and a lifetime resident of Adair County.
He was married to Fannie Mae STEPP on October 6, 1936. He was also a member
of the Oakridge Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, John and Emma GLASS; two brothers,
Richard and George GLASS; and two sisters, Betty PRITCHETT and Daisy PINKEY;
and five infant children.A
Lynch is survived by: his wife, Fannie of the home; two sons, Lynch Jr. of
Texas, and Joe of Okla.; three daughters, Corena, Mary Belle and Shirley,
all of Okla.; and three sisters, Lucy, Leona and Ada, all of Okla.; 28
grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a
host of other relatives, loved ones and friends.
BEARPAW
Funeral services for Thomas BEARPAW, Sr., 74, Tahlequah, were held Monday,
July 6, at Reed-Culver Chapel with Rev. Andy GONZALES and Maxie THOMPSON
officiating. Interment followed at the Tyler Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Charlie SOAP, Walter SOAP, Leroy SOAP, Albert SOAP, Jimmy SOAP and Carl
SOAP, Honorary pallbearers were James T. BOLTON, Boyd HAMBY, Henry SOAP,
Jack GOSS, Gene SOAP, Johnson SOAP and Norm FISHER.
Mr. BEARPAW was born September 18, 1923 in Adair County, the son of Stand
Watie and Sally SOAP BEARPAW, and he died July 2, 1998, in Tahlequah. Mr.
BEARPAW attended Peavine Schools. Thomas was a veteran of W.W. 11, serving
as a U.S. Army Darby's
Ranger, and was a Cherokee Nation police officer from 1974 to October of
1993, when he retired. Thomas married Josephine CHRISTIE in August of 1949.
Out of this union were born four sons and four daughters (also 33 grandchildren
and 12 great grandchildren)--George, Stand Watie, Thomas Jr., Betty and Mary,
all of Okla., Stanley and Sallie, both of Wyo. A daughter, Roseann, his parents
and grandparents preceded him in death. He later married Mae Guess CRITTENDEN
on September 1, 1964 in Pryor. They had one son, Jonathan and two
granddaughters.
Other survivors include: one half-brother, Dennis; three half-sisters, Virginia
and Billie, both of Okla. and Bonnie of Kansas; 31 grandchildren; 15 great
grandchildren; and many relatives, as well as a host of friends and loved
ones.

SPRINGWATER
Funeral services for Joyce Marie SPRINGWATER, 43, of Tahlequah, will be held
10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998 at the Echota Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck
GLASS officiating. Interment will follow in the Echota Cemetery under the
direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
Pallbearers will be Jason CUMMINGS, Duane SPRINGWATER, Larry PRITCHETT, Brad
FISH, Barry BURROWS and Russell JOHNSON.
Ms. SPRINGWATER was born October 2, 1954 in Stilwell, Okla., the daughter
of Crawford and Edna THIRSTY SPRINGWATER, and she died July 9, 1998 in Tahlequah.
Ms. SPRINGWATER attended Wichita, Kansas schools. She resided in Shelby,
Ala., for about 16 years, working as a bricklayer. She moved back to Tahlequah
in June of 1998.
Ms. SPRINGWATER was preceded in death by one sister, Rowena Dea FOREMAN.
Survivors include: her mother, Edna of Okla.; her father Crawford, also of
Okla.; two daughters, Nita of Ala., and Jennifer of Kansas; three brothers,
Leroy and Duane, both of Okla., and Clifford of N.M.; and three sisters,
Juanita and Cherokee, both of Okla, and Shirley of Texas.
CRITTENDEN
Funeral services for Marguerite Louise CRITTENDEN will be held Saturday,
July 11, 1998, at 10 a.m. at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel in Westville with
Rev. Hershel BLAIR and Bro. Jesse BUTLER officiating. Burial will be in the
Oakhill Cemetery in Siloam Springs, Ark., under the direction of Hart Funeral
Home of Westville.
She was born June 2, 1922 in Westville, Okla., to W.E. SYLER and Charlotte
WEBB SYLER. She passed from this life July 6, 1998, at Washington Regional
Medical Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark., at the age of 76 years, one mont
and four days. She earned her master's degree at the University of Arkansas
and was a teacher at Westville Public Schools for 37 years. She was a member
of the O.E.A., N.E.A., and Retired Teachers. She was also a member of the
First Baptist Church of Westville.
She was married to John R. CRITTENDEN on June 18, 1949, at the First Methodist
Church in Tahlequah, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.E. and Charlotte SYLER, and one
brother-in-law, Dale MATNEY.
Marguerite is survived by her husband John of the home; two sisters, Marianne
of Okla., and Barbara of Fla.; one brother, George of Ark.; several nieces
and nephews, and a host of other relatives, loved ones and friends.
RENKE
Funeral services for Mildred Delois YOUNG RENKE, 74, of Tahlequah, were held
Friday, June 10, in the Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Burial followed in
the Proctor Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard SMITH, Mike KELLY, Joel NOYES, Mike HEATON, Larry
HENLEY and Tommy SMITH.
She was born September 21, 1923, in Poteau, Okla., the daughter of Green
Bethel and Susie MANNON HENLEY. She died Monday, July 6, 1998 in Tulsa. She
lived in various locations around the U.S. and Cochabamba, Bolivia, where
her husband's work took the family, before settling in Proctor. She served
as school secretary in Watts and Grandview Schools before retiring.
She was married to Dewey D. YOUNG who preceded her in death in 1977. She
later married Myron RENKE of Fairbanks, Alaska, who preceded her in death
in 1980. Two sisters, Clara EDWARDS and Laura WHITE, and two brothers, Roy
and Lowell HENLEY, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: three daughters, Susan, Rebecca and Kathryn, all of Okla.;
two sisters, Edith of Okla. and Naomi of Ore.; and four grandchildren, Kristi,
Brian, William and Matthew.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
MARTINEZ
Usmaro SANCHEZ MARTINEZ was born June 29, 1973 in Puerto De La Victoria,
M.P.I.O. De Xilitla to Lino SANCHEZ and Leandra MARTINEZ. He departed this
life July 4, 1998 at Tahlequah City Hospital in Tahlequah, Okla., at the
age of 25 years and 5 days.
Funeral services will be held in Mexico City, Mexico.
BLISS
William Lindburg BLISS son of William BLISS and Ethel Annie MEYERS BLISS,
was born May 9, 1927 in Lincoln, Ark., and departed this life to be with
his Lord on July 10, 1998 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla., at
the age of 71 years, 2 months and 1 day. William was married to Alyene VICK
on July 6, 1947 in Stilwell, Okla., and from this union were born three children:
Gary, Linda and Donna.
He was preceded in death by both parents; one daughter, Donna Lynn PERKINS;
four brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Alyene of the home; one son, Gary of Okla.; one
daughter, Linda of Okla.; three sisters, Mary, Evelyn and Martha, all of
Texas; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 14, at the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral
Home Chapel in Stilwell with Bro. Tracy MEGLI officiating. Interment followed
at the Stilwell City Cemetery.

BAHRS
Addie Bahrs, daughter of Fred Palone and Elizabeth (Maupkins) Palone, was
born Nov. 14, 1909 in Westville, Okla., and departed this life to be with
her Lord July 10, 1998 in Broken Arrow, Okla., at the age of 88 years, 7
months and 25 days.
Addie attended the Assembly of God Church. Addie was preceded in death by:
her parents; her first husband, Joseph Kelley in 1951; her second husband,
Henry Bahrs, in 1988; six brothers and two sisters.
She leaves to mourn her passing; one son, Fred; two daughters Betty Lou and
Carolyn Sue; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 16 at Roberts Chapel in Westville with Bro. Claude
McGee officiating. Interment was at the Baptist Mission Cemetery under the
direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
DOYLE
Andrew Richard Doyle, son of Caswell Thomas Doyle and Bertie Mae (Clinton)
Doyle, was born Feb. 22, 1919 in Stilwell, Okla., and departed this life
into eternity on July 19, 1998 at his home in the Stilwell area at the age
of 79 years, 4 months and 26 days.
Andrew was married to Edna Falwell on Jan. 7, 1946 and from this union were
born four children: Joyce, Patricia, Jim and Vivian. Andrew served his country
during WW11.
He was preceded in death by: both parents; three brothers, Ed, Brownie and
Robert Lee; one sister, Pearl; and two infant brothers and one infant
sister.
He is survived by: his wife, Edna, three daughters, Joyce, Patricia and Vivian
, one son Jim; two sisters Viola and Wanda.; two brothers C.E. Shorty and
Hearl Ray; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Wednesday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Westville
with Bro. Bob Johnson of Siloam Springs and Bro. Charles Cash officiating.

of Roberts Funeral Home.
STALCUP
Funeral services for Milton Evans Stalcup were held Friday, July 17, 1998
at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel in Westville, Okla. with Rev. Bill Buttram
officiating. Interment followed in the Westville City Cemetery under the
direction of Hart Funeral Home of Westville.
He was born Jan. 15, 1906 in Indian Territory to Robert Lee Stalcup and Myrtle
(Loflin) Stalcup. He departed this life July 15, 1998 at Siloam Springs Memorial
Hospital at the age of 92 years and 6 months. He served in the Army during
World War II and was a game warden and police officer for Adair County and
Westville for eight years. He married Ova Lea Cowan on April 13, 1936 in
Tahlequah, Okla. To this union was born one daughter, Pat. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Robert and Myrtle Stalcup; one brother Bill Stalcup;
and one sister, Pauline Shupert.
Milton is survived by his wife, Ova Lea, one daughter, Pat, two grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
KOTSAREV
Oma Mae Roberts Kotsarev was born May 4, 1917 in Hominy, Okla. Her parents
were Harrison Goad and Docie (Ingle) Goad. She married Roy Roberts in 1936.
During their years together they raised five children of their own; Barbara
Mae, David Henry, James Roy, Jack Carl and Nancy. In addition, they provided
a home for more than a dozen foster children.
She was remarried to Nikolai Kotsarev in 1991. With this marriage, Nick's
daughter, Tania was added to the family. She was an active member of the
Stilwell Pentecostal Holiness Chuch.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Roy Roberts; one son, David H.
Roberts; daughter-in-law Charoline Roberts Hamlin; and grandchildren Roy
Lee Thomas and Robert Lee Tonne.
She is survived by: her husband, Nikolai Kotsarev, of the home; two sons,
James and Jack; two daughters, Barbara and Nancy; three brothers Dick and
Pete of Okla.,and Bill of Nev; one sister, Josie of Texas; 14 grandchildren;
12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Friday, July 17, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church with
Rev. Dick Goad, Rev. Richard Goad, Rev. Mark Roberts and Rev. Jim Eby
officiating. Interment followed at the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction
of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
WATKINS
Tony Lee Spurling Watkins, age 35, of Grove, Okla., died Friday, July 17,
1998 in an auto accident near Grove. The son of Nancy Paulette Watkins and
Harold LeRoy Spurling, he was born June 19, 1963 in Concorde, Calif. Tony
married Roseann Katherine Wilson on May 30, 1992
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim Wesly and Dessie Othella
Watkins, who raised him.
Tony is survived by: his wife, Roseann; his mother Nancy; his father, Harold;
a sister, Tammie; a brother Joseph; paternal grandmother, Rita; a stepson,
Joseph; a stepdaughter, Michelle; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, July 21, in the Worley Luginbuel Chapel with
Paul Thompson officiating. Services were under the direction of the
Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.
FOURKILLER
William Hooley Fourkiller, son of Nick Fourkiller, Sr. and Joanna Manus
Fourkiller, was born Oct. 27, 1946 in Tahlequah, Okla. and departed this
life on July 14, 1998 at Stilwell, Okla. at the age of 51 years, 8 months
and 16 days.
Hooley accepted the Lord as his Savior in June 1990 at Fourkiller Baptist
Church.
He was preceded in death by his father; his son, Brian and one brother, Jimmy
C. Fourkiller.
He is survived by: his mother, Joanna; one daughter, Wynema DeeAnn; one brother
Nick; three sisters, Louise, Anna Bell and Carolyn Sue; three grandchildren;
one niece, four nephews, and one grandniece.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 17, at the Fourkiller Baptist Church
with Bro. Raymond Glass officiating. Interment followed at the Fourkiller
Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Stilwell.

PALONE
Richard Ralph "Dick" Palone, 85, Klamath Falls, Ore., passed away July 14,
1998.
Graveside services were held in Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens. Eternal Hills
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Palone was born July 11, 1913 in Stilwell, Okla. to Charles and Susie
(Thornton) Palone. His wife, Lucetta "Pat" Fields, whom he married in Reno
in 1951, preceded him in death.
Survivors include: his sister, Doralee Cox; and stepchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
GUTHRIE
Alfred Harvey GUTHRIE, son of John Guthrie and Minnie (JOHNSON) Guthrie,
was born June 29, 1906 in Boxley, Ark., and departed this life on July 22,
1998 in Stilwell, Okla. at the age of 92 years and 36 days.
Alfred was married to Jessie, his first wife, on Aug. 19, 1927, and together
they had 11 children. Alfred was a farmer. He also served as pastor at Hern
Community Church for eight years and he pastored Colony Church in Cincinnati,
Ark. for three years.
He was preceded in death by: both parents; his first wife Jessie, who died
in 1954; two infants; two brothers; one sister; and one grandson. He was
also preceded in death by his second wife Mary, in 1987.
He is survived by: five daughters; Geraldine, Eileen, Viola , Ninalee and
Wanda; four sons Lemuel Guthrie, Liman, Leslie and Fred. He is also survived
by 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren,
a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 27, at the Roberts Funeral Home Chapel
in Westville with Bro. Charles Strode of Fayetteville, Ark. officiating.
Interment followed at the Westville City Cemetery under the direction of
Roberts Funeral Home.
FEATHERS
Mr. Bill FEATHERS, 67, of Independence, Kansas, died at 8:20 p.m. Monday,
July 20, in Joplin, Mo., where he had been undergoing treatment as a result
of a bulldozer accident.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 24, at the First Southern Baptist
Church of Independence, Kansas. Cremation followed services.
William Earl Feathers was born June 26, 1931 in Stilwell, Okla., the son
of Thomas Grant Feathers and Eva Clyde (BATT) Feathers. On Oct. 15, 1955
in Madison, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Mary Elaine HUDSON, and
she survives.
Surviving in addition to the widow are three daughers, Debra Lynn, Desiree,
and Beth Ellen; two sons, Mark Earl and Aaron Marshall; four grandchildren;
two sisters, Joyce CRAVER , Texas, and Mildred WEBB, Okla.; and one brother,
Leo, Okla.
CAUGHMAN
Services for James Edward "J.E." CAUGHMAN, age 76, of Park Hill, were held
Monday, July 27, at the Tahlequah City Cemetery Pavilion. Arrangements were
under the direction of Hart Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Mr.
Caughman's grandsons, Ed, J.W., Shawn, Jimmy, Jack, Casey and Tommy. Honorary
pallbearers were Will WATKINS, Austin GLORY and Ryan BRIDGES. Flower girls
were Mr. Caughman's granddaughters, Jeannie, Heather, Debbie W., Amy, Cathy,
Annie, Cindy and Sharon, and the foster grandparents.
James Edward Caughman, son of Isaac and Grace (DIFFEE) Caughman, was born
July 8, 1922 in Sallisaw, Okla., and died Thursday, July 23, 1998 in Tulsa,
Okla. On Nov. 18, 1941, he and Nathelia WEBB were married in Stilwell.
His parents, brother, Jack Caughman, and sister, Opal Nolte MOORE, preceded
him in death.
He is survived by: hiw wife, Nathelia; seven children, Rebecca, James L.
, Bobbie Sue. Jerry, David, Kevin, and Ginger; a sister and brother, Sue
SARK of and Carney Caughman; 38 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and
a host of friends and loved ones.
CONNER
Graveside services for Flossie Lovena Rhetta May (CARPENTER) CONNER were
held Friday, July 24 at Highland Cemetery in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Services
were under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
Flossie was born May 2, 1910 in Andale, Kansas, to William Henry Carpenter
and Mary Stella (MCDANIEL) Carpenter. She passed from this life July 20,
1998 in Fayetteville, Ark. at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 18 days.
She was married to Joseph Wilson Conner on April 18, 1928 in Alva, Okla.
From this union were born four children: Rose Ellen , Wilma Josephine, Floyd
Henry and Maurine Bell. She was preceded in death by: her parents, William
Henry and Mary Carpenter; her husband, Joseph Wilson Conner; one daughter,
Wilma (Conner) HITTLE; two sisters, Martha (WARD) TAYLOR FOSTER and Geneviae
Carpenter; and six brothers Fred and Lloyd CARPENTER, Leo, William, Fred
and Lewis Ward
Flossie is survived by: two daughters, Rose and Maurine, Kansas; one son
Floyd Conner, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four
great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, loved ones and
friends.
MCMILLAN
Memorial services for Mary Lou MCMILLAN were held Thursday, July 23, at the
First Christian Church. Services were under the direction of Hart Funeral
Home of Stilwell.
Mary Lou was born May 4, 1928 in Carthage, Mo., to Lee Brooks and Mary Leona
(NORTON) BROOKS. She departed this life July 20, 1998 in Stilwell at the
age of 70 years, 2 months and 16 days.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; one son, David MCMILLAN; two brothers,
Leo and Fred; and three sisters, Ruth, Elizabeth and Helen.
Mary Lou is survived by: three daughters, Mary, Linda and Nancy; one son
Jim McMillan; one sister Virginia MCCLINTOCK of Mo.; nine grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren.
KILLER
Roach KILLER, son of Roland Killer and Maggie MUSKRAT, was born Sept. 7,
1916 in Stilwell, Okla., and departed this life on July 24, 1998 in Stilwell
at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 16 days. Roach mever married and never
had any children.
Roach was preceded in death by both parents, four brothers and four
sisters.
Funeral services were held July 28, at the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home
Chapel in Stilwel. Interment followed at the Killer Cemetery under the direction
of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Stilwell.
ESSARY
Shelby Dow ESSARY, son of Sherman Essary and Maggie (LEWIS) Essary, was born
July 14, 1920 in Monterey, Tenn. and departed this life on Sunday, July 19,
1998 at Memorial Hospital in Stilwell, Okla. at the age of 78 years and 4
days.
Dow, as he was known, was a longtime resident of the Stilwell area. He was
married to Ruby Naomi PATTERSON on Dec. 17, 1941, and from this union was
born three children: Billy Ray, Jimmy Dale and James Edward. He was preceded
in death by: both parents, one brother, Ray Essary; three sisters, Gladys
Patterson, Treva Essary and Jessie Essary; and one grandson, Michael Dale
ESSARY.
He is survived by: his wife Naomi, three sons, Bill , Jimmy Dale and James
Edward; two brothers, Charles Essary and Raymond Essary, both of Kansas;
six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 24, at the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral
Home Chapel in Stilwell. Interment followed at the Stilwell City Cemetery
under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
HENDRIX
Thomas Jefferson (Jr.) HENDRIX 111, 68 of Auburn, Ala., died July 20, 1998
at the Veteran's Nursing Home, Tuskogee, Ala., of complications of a malignant
brain tumor resulting from lung cancer.
Mr. Hendrix was born March 25, 1930 at Nicut, Okla., the son of Thomas Jefferson
Hendrix II and Charlotte RYAN Hendrix.
He is survived by: his wife of 44 years, Virginia Colendino; a daughter,
Patricia; three sons, Thomas A., David Hendrix, and Michael; seven grandchildren;
an aunt, Sarah Lurana TRUESDELL; two sisters, Dorothy and Betty; two brothers,
Jack and Owen Neal.
Mr. Hendrix was predeceased by his mother, father, and a brother, Donald
Lee Hendrix.
A memorial stone will be placed by the grave of his mother at the Seabolt
Cemetery, Nicut, Sequoyah County, Okla.
PINKERTON
Virginia Lea (Jackie) PINKERTON, daughter of Marvin VICKERY and Virginia
LOCUST SHELL, was born Jan. 7, 1938 in Stilwell, Okla., and departed this
life on July 20, 1998 in Tulsa, Okla. at the age of 60 years, 7 months and
12 days.
Jackie, as she was known, was married to Charlie Pinkerton in 1967, and from
this union were born five children: Dianna, Paul, Jackie, Lee Wayne and
Kathy.
She was preceded in death by: her father, Marvin Vickery, stepfather, Ross
Shell; husband, Charlie Pinkerton; and one sister, Betty WHITE. She is survived
by: three daughters, Dianna, Jackiel, and Kathy; two sons, Paul and Lee Wayne;
five brothers and sister, Jimmy, Kathy, Jerry, Connieand Sandy; six
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held July 23, at the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home
Chapel. Interment followed at the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction
of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
