EUBANKS
Funeral services for Roy EUBANKS, 72, were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday,
December 2, 1998 at the Hart Memorial Chapel with Rev. Michael FINK officiating.
Burial was at the Spade Mountain Cemetery.
He was born May 30, 1926 in Lyons Switch Community to Hubert and Ollie PETREE
EUBANKS. He died Monday, November 30, 1998 in the home at Rocky Mountain
at the age of 72 years and 6 months.
Roy was a retired dairy farmer and a volunteer fireman with Hwy. 100 West.
He was also a member of the Rocky Mountain Bible Church. He was married to
Wilma Jane CAIN on June 19, 1948 in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; Leonard, Floyd, Boyd,
Loyd and Troy EUBANKS and one sister Gladys SWAFFORD.
Roy is survived by his wife, Wilma of the home; one daughter, Brenda of Okla.;
five sons, Rickey, Randy, Roger, Mickey and Mark; two sisters, Ethel and
Goldie; one brother, Claude, all of Okla.; 14 grandchildren and 2
great-grandchildren.
HOGNER
Graveside services for Katie Lee RILEY HOGNER were held at 1:00 p.m.Thursday,
December 3, 1998 at the Fairfield Cemetery with Bro. Andy GONZALES officiating.
Services were under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
She was born February 26, 1917 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to Robert H. and
Eva Lee HANCOCK RILEY. She departed this life November 30, 1998 in Evansville,
Arkansas, at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 4 days.
Katie was a retired waitress and was of the Baptist faith. She was married
to Junior HOGNER on March 6, 1970. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Katie is survived by two daughters, Barbara of New Mexico and Frances of
Illinois; and by 10 grandchildren.
KELLEY
Funeral services for W. Russell KELLEY, 63 of Tahlequah, were held Tuesday,
Dec. 8, at the Tahlequah Church of Christ with Lloyd COPPEDGE officiating.
Burial will follow in the Moody Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver
Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Pallbearers will be Billy BLISS, George CARR,
Richard CONRAD, Felix JOHNSON, Jim ROBBINS and Donal SHRUM. Honorary pallbearers
will be Gene COLBURN, Ed EVANS, Jerry FORD, Carl GREENHAW, Bartow HIX, Dale
MATTHEWS, Donald OGLE, James OGLE, Roy ROBBINS, Dawes STEVENS, Morgan WHITMORE
and Myron WOODS.
Kelley was born Feb. 2, 1935 in Moody, Okla., the son of Harry "Fuzz" and
Cordelia BELL KELLEY, and he died Dec. 5, 1998 in Tulsa. Russell attended
Moody Grade School, Tahlequah Central High School and Mason City, Iowa,
Auctioneering School. He graduated from Northeastern State University in
1962 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. Russell married Barbara
LEWIS at home in the Liberty Community on April 7, 1962. His first teaching
job was at Nelagony High School near Pawhuska. He then taught at Stilwell
Junior High until 1968. From 1968 until 1975, Russell was the District I
Cherokee County Commissioner. In 1975 until his retirement, he was a heavy
equipment instructor at Bill Willis Skills Center. In 1985, Russell received
the Future Farmers of America's Junior Master Farmer, Farm Family of the
Year Award.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Harry "Fuzz" KELLEY on Nov. 24, 1998
and his grandparents.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two sons, Aaron and Jason; two
grandchildren; his mother Cordelia; and one sister, Dovie, all of Okla.
MADISON
Ollie Mae MADISON, resident of Tulsa, daughter of Robert Baxter SANDERS and
Charlotte WOLFE SANDERS, was born May 29, 1910, in Stilwell and departed
this life into eternity at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of
88 years, 6 months and 3 days.
She is preceded in death by both parents, first husband Artie John WALLS,
second husband George E. OWENS, third husband Clyde MADISON, one son, Jackie
OWENS, and one infant daughter, Sallie Mae OWENS.
She is survived by one daughter, Rosa of Okla.; two sons, John of Mo., and
Robert of Okla.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec.5, at Stilwell City Cemetery with
Bro. Roger HANEY officiating under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral
Home.

DANDRIDGE
Bernice Irene DANDRIDGE, daughter of Eber S. BLACK and Millie DUNCAN BLACK
was born May 24, 1918 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and departed this life to
be with her Lord December 9, 1998 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at
the age of 80 years, 6 months and 14 days.
She was married to John DANDRIDGE on July 11, 1936 and to this union were
born eight children: John Jr., William, James, Sandra, Melvin, Rhonda, Tommy
and Freddy.
She attended Rocky Mountain Community Church for over 45 years where she
taught Sunday School classes for many years.
She is preceded in death by both parents, one daughter, Sandra SCOTT; one
grandchild, Tommy GALE Jr.; three brothers, Bernard, James and Lloyd Dale
BLACK.
She is survived by: her husband John of the home; six sons: John of Texas,
William, James, Melvin and Tommy, all of Okla.; one daughter, Rhonda of Okla;
one brother, Vernon of Okla.; twenty-six grandchildren, and thirty-three
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in
the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill ROUNDTREE and
Bro. Audie VAUGHN officiating. Interment will follow at the Stilwell City
Cemetery.
COOKSEY
Funeral services for Paul Edward COOKSEY Sr. will be held at 2:00 p.m.December
12, 1998 at the Marble City School Gymnasium in Marble City with clergymen
Carl HANKS and Briggs CHUCULATE. Burial will be in the Flute Springs
Cemetery.
Paul Edward COOKSEY Sr. was born March 24, 1945 in Tahlequah, Okla. He departed
this life on December 9, 1998 in Sallisaw, Okla. at the age of 53.
He worked as a mechanic and equipment operator for Sequoyah County.
He is survived by wife Mary, sons: Paul, Benton Thomas and Dan; sisters:
Daggie Mae and Ella Mae; brothers:William and Roy; and three grandchildren:
Elizabeth, B.J. and Panther, all of Oklahoma.
PUMPKIN
Funeral services for Agnes CHRISTIE PUMPKIN, 76 of Tahlequah will be held
at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 1998 at the Cedar Tree Tabernacle with
Rev. Dale WILSON and Rev. Jim HENSON officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pumpkin Hollow Cemetery under the direction of
Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Pallbearers will be Carl ROSS, Gary
SMITH, Thomas PUMPKIN, Warren TYON, Roger CAIN and Michael CHRISTIE. Honorary
pallbearers will be Kadah ROSS, Tim WILSON, Long Elk ROSS, Carl ROSS Jr.,
and Jonathon ROSS.
Mrs. PUMPKIN was born March 30, 1922 in Adair County, Oklahoma, the daughter
of William and Jennie CHRISTIE, and she died December 12, 1998 in Tulsa.
Mrs. PUMPKIN attended Wauhillau schools in Adair County. She was an Elder
for the Cherokee Historical Society and taught Cherokee to missionaries from
all over the world. She was a member of the Cedar Tree Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Bill CHRISTIE Jr.
and Lacy CHRISTIE and two sisters, Nancy RUNABOUT and Nellie SMITH.
Survivors include her husband, George of the home; four sons, Carl, David,
Gary and Thomas; four daughters, Florene, Merry, Ernestine, all of Okla.
and Maxine of Arizona; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and many other
relatives, as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
ROSS
Funeral services for Elizabeth Ann SHEFFIELD ROSS will be held 10:00 a.m.
Thursday, December 10, 1998 at the Hart Memorial Chapel in Westville with
Bro. Rick GASSAWAY officiating. Burial will be in the Wetville City Cemetery.
Elizabeth Ann SHEFFIELD ROSS born November 7, 1934 at Westville, Oklahoma,
to William and Willie Mae SHEFFIELD. She departed this life on December 5,
1998 at home. Elizabeth was raised in the Westville community and continued
to make this area her home. She worked for Cookson Hills Community Action
Headstate for several years. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her
parents; two brothers: William Elbert SHEFFIELD Jr. and Mitchell Dean SHEFFIELD
and one infant child.
She is survived by one son; Jim of Connecticut; two granddaughters, Kasi
and Amanda, both of Okla; one nephew Michael; and one great nephew, Patrick
both of Okla.
PHILLIPS - PARK
Pearl Elsie PHILLIPS-PARK, daughter of James SHELL and Mary MITCHELL SHELL
was born January 31, 1906 near Westville in Indian Territory, and departed
this life to be with her Lord on December 11, 1998 at Memorial Hospital in
Siloam Springs, Arkansas, at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 11 days.
Elsie was born and grew up about three miles south of Westville on what is
commonly known as Shell Branch and lived there on the family farm until she
married in 1924. She attended the Union Hill School. She was married to Calvin
H. PHILLIPS in 1924 and to this union were born five children: Rachell Marie,
Tom, Harold (Jiggs), Lucille and Carlos. She lived most of her adult life
with the exception of a few years in Californai with her family in Westville.
She was a faithful Christian and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She
was a life-long member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church having become a
member in approximately 1937 where she served as choir leader for many years.
She was an original enrollee of the Cherokee Nation and her father was a
Cherokee minister.
She is preceded in death by both parents; two brothers: Bill and Ed SHELL;
two sisters, Eunice SHELL and Susie NEWLAN as well as two infant brothers,
first husband Calvin PHILLIPS, one son, Carlos, and one daughter, Rachell
Marie and second husband Leo PARK.
She is survived by two sons: Tom of Calif., and Harold (Jiggs)of Okla.; one
daughter, Lucille of Calif.; one sister, Flora of Calif.; nine grandchildren,
and eighteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday December 13, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at the Roberts
Funeral Home Chapel in Westville with Bro. Audie VAUGHT and Bro. John MUNSON
officiating. Interment followed at the Westville City Cemetery.

BRUNER
Donald Edward BRUNER, son of Edward O. BRUNER and Thelma Rose RITCHIE BRUNER
was born March 14, 1937 in the Titanic community near Stilwell and departed
this life to be with his Lord on December 20, 1998 at W.W. Hastings in Tahlequah,
Okla., at the age of 61 years, 9 months and 5 days.
Donald married to Carolyn Louise WITT on June 22, 1960 and to this union
were born 4 children; Chris, Tommy, Dawn and Jerry. He was a lifelong farmer
in the Titanic community and a mechanic by trade. He was a long time member
of the Bidding Creek Baptist Church
He is preceded in death by both parents.
He is survived by: three sons, Christopher, Tommy and Jerry Wayne, all of
Okla.; one daughter, Dawn of Okla.; one brother Dewayne of Okla.; two special
nieces, Linda and Debbie; and nine grandchildren, Thomas, James, Dalton,
Dana, Dara, Ramie and McKenleigh of Okla., and Brazen and Lauren of Texas.
MAXWELL
Funeral services for Helen Cleo MAXWELL were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December
18, 1998 at the Hart Memorial Chapel in Westville with Rev. Mark CHENOWETH
officiating. Burial will be in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction
of Hart Funeral Home of Westville.
Helen Cleo MAXWELL was born September 27, 1912 in Chouteau, Okla., to Robert
Lee and Anna Lea WOOD DENTON. She departed this life December 14, 1998 in
Lyons, Kansas, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 17 days.
She was a child care provider in Westville to many of the area children.
She worked at the Baptist Children's Home and the Methodist Children's
Home. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Westville and
later transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church in Bushton,
Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; R.L. and Anna DENTON, two husbands;
Otis FULLER and Arlie MAXWELL; three brothers and four sisters.
Helen is survived by one daughter; Patt of Okla.; one son, David of Kansas;
one granddaughter, Susan of Kansas; two grandsons, Bill and Michael, both
of Okla.; and two great grandsons, Eric of Kansas and Will of Okla.
KIRBY
Funeral services for Julie Mae KIRBY were held Thursday, December 17, 1998
at the Hart Memorial Chapel in Westville with Rev. Raymond MULLIN officiating.
Burial will be in the Old Baptist Mission Cemetery.
Julie Mae KIRBY was born August 14, 1908 in Westville, Okla., to Frank and
Nannie EDGEMON KIRBY. She departed this life December 11, 1998 in Westville
at he age of 90 years, 3 months and 17 days. She was a nurse and homemaker.
She worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in California, Westville Nursing Home
and was a home health nurse in the Westville area for several years. Julie
was married to Tom KIRBY on March 30, 1929 in Missouri. She was of the Holiness
faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom KIRBY; one son
Ruben KIRBY; one grandson, Bob EBERT; three sisters, Dollie PALONE, Ova THURMAN
and Virgie RHEA.
Julie is survived by two daughters; Rose and Mary.

Funeral services for Berniece CANADA, 59, of Westville were held Wednesday,
December 23, 1998 in Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shirley FORD officiating.
Burial will follow in the Old Baptist Mission Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were John MILLER, Michael MILLER, Jamie MILLER, David
LITTLE, Travis SUGG and John PATTON.
Berniece CANADA, daughter of Claude and Thursle Alice MARTIN BROWN, was born
March 25, 1939 in Tahlequah, Okla., and died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998 at her
home in Westville. Mrs. CANADA was an employee of Campbell Soup for over
21 years and a member of the Church of God in Lincoln, Ark.
Her parents and grandson, Brandon MARTIN, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Dale and Rick, both of Okla.; three daughters,
Anita, Tina and Angela, all of Ark.; two brothers, Haskell and Harold, both
of Okla.; three sisters, Virginia, Katie and Pauline, all of Okla.; and three
grandsons, Jeremiah and Jason, both of Ark., and Adam of Okla.
BOND
Beulah C. BOND, 95 year old resident of Watts, Okla., died Wednesday, December
16, 1998 at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born
February 12, 1903, in Muskogee County, Okla. (I.T.), she was the daughter
of John Calvin CALICO and Sinty Susan TOLLINGER CALICO.
Mrs. BOND had been a resident of Watts since 1984, formerly of California.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Henry of Okla.; one step-daughter, Laura of Oregon;
15 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; over 90
great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pearl of California. Funeral services
were held Monday, December 21, 1998 at Wasson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Luke
CHURCH officiating. Burial followed in Bell Cemetery.
AUTRY
Funeral services for Charles Harold AUTRY, Jr. will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Sunday, December 20, 1998 at the Hart Memorial Chapel in Westville with Rev.
R.T. PERRY and Bob JOHNSON officiating. Burial will be in the Westville City
Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Westville.
Charles Harold AUTRY, Jr. was born August 16, 1926 in Cass County, Texas,
to Charles Harold AUTRY, Sr. and Minnie GARRETT AUTRY. He departed this life
December 18, 1998 in Springdale, Ark., at the age of 72 years, 4 months and
2 days.
He was an industrial fireman for North American Rockwell on a federal government
space program. He served two enlistments in the Navy from 1942-1948. He served
aboard the U.S.S. Champlin (destroyer) during World War 11 and was in the
Amphibious Scouts and Raiders which is today's Navy Seals.
He was married to Ruth ROLLINS on Sept. 1, 1947 in Odessa, Texas. He was
a member of the First United Methodist Church in Westville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Charles is survived by his wife; Ruth of the home; three daughters; Carlene
and Vaulene of Tennessee and Shirley of Texas; one son, Charles of Colorado;
10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

BIGBY
A.C. "Mac" BIGBY, 74, died December 1, 1999 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Mass
of Christian Burial was held in St. Pius X.Catholic Church. Military honors
were provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1383 at Haven of Rest
Mausoleum in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. BIGBY was born November 24, 1925
in Stilwell to David and Lettie THOMAS BIGBY. He moved with his family to
Klamath Falls, Oregon, in September 1942, before enlisting in the Navy and
serving in the South Pacific during World War 11. He married Marvis MURPHY
on April 26, 1952, in Reno, Nevada. He worked at the Kesterman Mill and
Johns-Manville before an accident forced his early retirement. he was a life
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of American Legion. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife; brothers, Ken, of Oregon, George and Arsie of
California; and sister, Euphamia, of Oregon. He was preceded in death by
two brothers, Felix and George S. BIGBY
GANTT
Irene GANTT, 67, of Muldrow, passed away Sunday, December 26, 1999 at Fort
Smith, Arkansas. Services were Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at Agent Chapel
in Muldrow. Interment followed in Cottonwood Cemetery south of Muldrow. She
was born May 27, 1932 in Stilwell to Evitt SEATON and Evelyn WALKINGSTICK
SEATON. She was a member of Victory Temple Pentecostal Church of
Roland.
Survivors include seven daughters, Kathy, Alice, Sherry, Debra and Myra,
of Arkansas, Nettie, of Texas and Susan, of Oklahoma; two sons, James, of
Oklahoma, and Bill of Tennessee; 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren;
two sisters, Kahleetah and Sue, of Oklahoma; and one brother Earl.
CHRISTIE
Ida Mae CHRISTIE, daughter of Daniel CHRISTIE and Charlotte FLUTE CHRISTIE,
was born June 26, 1920, in Barber and departed this life, Monday, December
20, 1999 at Stilwell Nursing Home at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 23
days. Ida served her country proudly in Europe for three years in the U.S.
military. She retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs after working at
Seneca School, Jones Academy and as a matron at Sequoyah High School. She
spoke the Cherokee language fluently, as well as English. She is preceded
in death by both parents; and two brothers, Richard and Ned CHRISTIE.
She is survived by one brother, Isaac; one sister, Lucy; one sister-in-law,
Maggie; three loving cousins, Diane, Pat and Mary, all of Oklahoma.
Funeral was Thursday, Decembeer 23, 1999 at the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral
Home Chapel in Stilwell with Rev. Charles DUVALL and Rev. Charley SHELL
officiating. Interment followed at the Barber Cemetery.
COX
Graveside services for Dora Lee COX were held Monday, December 27, 1999 at
the Piney Cemetery with Rev. Jerry GATEWOOD officiating. Services were under
the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell. Dora was born April 22, 1911,
in Stilwell to Tom PALONE and Susan E. THORNTON PALONE. She departed this
life December 24, 1999 in Stilwell at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 2
days. She was a homemaker and was of the Holiness faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Clyde PARKER,
her second husband Paul COX; one brother Richard PALONE and one sister Irene
POOR.
Dora is survived by one nephew, Lenard, of Oklahoma; several cousins, other
relatives, loved ones and friends.
OVERTURF
Funeral services for Winford OVERTURF were held Monday, December 27, 1999
at Hart Funeral Home Chapel in Westville with Rev. Audie VAUGHN officiating.
Services were under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Westville. Serving
as pallbearers were: Noel MORRIS, Benny DENTON, Sam ADAIR, Phil BRAMLETT,
Dennis KIDDY, Jim DOYLE, Bill ENGLEMAN and Joe HUFFAKER. Winford OVERTURF,
son of William and Pearl L. SOUTH OVERTURF, was born August 30, 1926 in Caraway,
Arkansas, and departed this life, December 24, 1999 in Westville after reaching
the age of 73 years, 3 months and 24 days. He was a retired plumber and attended
the Westville Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving
his country during World War 11. He was married to Wilma HOWARD on December
31, 1988 in Westville.
He is preceded in death by his father; one daughter, Marie HAGAN; and one
sister, Verona RALSTON. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; three sons, Butch,
of Arkansas and Dwayne and Greg, of Oklahoma; two daughters, Wendy, of Texas
and Debra, of California; his mother, Pearl, of Arkansas; two brothers, Howard,
of Texas, and Billy, of Arkansas; two sisters, Wilma, of Arkansas, and Jo,
of Oklahoma; and by six grandchildren, Cassie, John, Brittney, Bradley, Didra
and Kyle.
WALKER
Funeral services for Sherman Francis WALKER were held Monday, December 27,
1999, at the Hart Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim NOBLE and Rev. Jim SISCO
officiating. Interment followed at the New Hope Cemetery under the direction
of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell. He was born December 17, 1905, in Prairie
Grove, Arkansas, to William Columbus "Lum" WALKER and Maggie Lee TURNBULL
WALKER. He departed this life December 24, 1999 in Tahlequah at the age of
94 years and 7 days. He was a mechanic and was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Donald WALKER. Sherman
is survived by; Eldee, Shirley, Christopher, Pamela, Maggie, Fran and Mitchell,
of Oklahoma; Glenda, Harold, Tommy and James, of Missouri; 31 grandchildren
and 10 great grandchildren. [There is no explanation of relationship with

WILLIAMS
Wesley Sedell WILLIAMS, long-time Westville resident, was born April 28,
1918 in Chillicothe, Texas, and departed this life to be with our Lord, Thursday,
December 23, 1999 at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at
the age of 81 years, 7 months and 24 days. At age 26, he entered the U.S.
Navy and served his country proudly in World War 11. He was permanently disabled
in July 1945 after being blown from a Navy destroyer and was honorably discharged
July 10, 1945. He married Pearl MCCOWN on March 22, 1980 and made Westville
his home. He has resided with his step-granddaughter, Rhonda, who cared for
him the past six years. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Pearl;
two step-sons, one step-grandson and one step-granddaughter. He is survived
by three step-daughters, Eileen, Dolores and Imogene, Oklahoma; one step-son,
Glen of Arizona; 13 step-grandchildren and 34 step-great grandchildren. Graveside
services were Monday, Decembeer 27, 1999 at the Downing Cemetery in Baron,
in Rev. Claude MCGEE officiating, under the direction of Roberts Funeral
Home of Westville.
WILLIAMS
Teresa WILLIAMS, daughter of Leon WILLIAMS and Delores MCCOWN WILLIAMS was
born January 9, 1964 in Upland, California, and departed this life, Tuesday,
December 21, 1999 at Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, at the
age of 35 years, 11 months and 11 days. Teresa worked as a lineman at
Cobb-Vantress. She was a devoted mother to her 5 year old son, Rusty. She
is preceded in death by one brother, Robert WILLIAMS.
She is survived by her son; her parents; one sister, Victoria; two brothers,
Richard and David, all of Oklahoma. Graveside services were held Thursday,
December 23, 1999 at the Westville City Cemetery with Rev. Mike HAYES
officiating, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Westville.

LATTA
Funeral services for Florence Melvina YORK CHRISTIE LATTA were held December
23, 1998 at the Hart Memorial Chapel in Stilwell with Bro. Randy PROCTOR
officiating. Burial was in the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction
of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
Florence CHRISTIE LATTA was born July 20, 1920 in Cherokee County, to
William"Bill" and Niecie DEARMAN YORK. She departed this life December 21,
1998 in Stilwell, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 1 day.
Florence was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; Bill and Niecie YORK, one son:
Rob CHRISTIE, one daughter: Annie CHRISTIE, one grandson: Harvery William
CHRISTIE, two sisters; Opal YORK and Alice SCOTT.
Florence is survived by; five sons; Bill, Jack, Jessie, Lonnie and Rick;
three daughters: LaVonna, Mary and Vicki, all of Okla.; one brother, Eugene
of Okla.; 27 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and a host of friends
and loved ones.
RUTHERFORD
Paul J. RUTHERFORD was born on January 31, 1929 in the Chalk Bluff community
to Wilburn RUTHERFORD and Pearl COWAN RUTHERFORD. He departed this life at
his home on December 26, 1998. He was 69 years old.
In 1944, Paul began working at the Stilwell Canning Factory shoveling beans
and he retired in 1994 as Vice President of Production. He received a plaque
for his 50 years of service and devotion to Stilwell Foods.
During the 1950's Paul served his country as a Combat Medic in Korea where
he received a special divisional commendation for faithful service.
On December 20, 1957, Paul married Helen MATTOX, to this union were born
three children: Paul David, Karen Irene and Bradley James. His wife Helen,
his daughter Karen Irene, his parents, Wilburn and Pearl, and his brother
J.C. preceded Paul in death.
Paul is survived by sons, Paul David and Bradley, both of Okla. He is also
survived by three brothers, and three sisters: Walter, Wallace, Clealus,
Thelma, and Charlotte, all of Okla., and Wilburn of Alaska.
Paul will be remembered as a quiet, thoughtful man, a loving father and a
caring brother.
On August 14, 1998, Paul accepted Christ as his Savior. During the last few
months of his life he wanted to make sure that those of us around him were
also saved.
Funeral services were held December 31, 1998 in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral
Home Chapel with Bro. Robert SHOOK and Bro. Carl CLARK officiating. Interment
followed at the Stilwell City Cemetery.
HENSLEY
Josie Mae HENSLEY, daughter of John FIELDS and Mamie MATHEWS FIELDS was born
February 26, 1921 in Stilwell, and departed this life to be with her Lord
on December 21, 1998 at her home near Stilwell at the age of 77 years, 9
months and 24 days. Josie married Frank HENSLEY on May 15, 1943 in Stilwell,
and to this union were born two children; Francis and Bill.
She was a homemaker and was a faithful member of the Whitmire Church. She
is preceded in death by both parents, husband Frank, on July 2, 1986 and
one sister, Irene FIELDS.
She is survived by: two sons, Francis and Bill, both of Okla.; four
grandchildren, two step grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She
is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many
friends.
Funeral services were held December 23, 1998 at the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral
Home Chapel with Bro. Darrell LACIE officiating. Interment followed at the
Reese Cemetery.
ENGLAND
Ginger Jeanette ENGLAND, daughter of Charley HITCHER, Jr. and Margarite MARTIN
HITCHER was born March 31, 1955 in Houston, Texas, and departed this life
December 22, 1998 at Northwest Arkansas Medical Center at the age of 43 years,
8 months 21 days.
Ginger was married to Martin ENGLAND, Jr. and to this union were born two
children; Adrian and Lance.
She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charley and Jennie
HITCHER and maternal grandparents, Joe and Ethel MARTIN.
She is survived by: her husband: Martin, of the home; two sons, Adrian, of
Ark., and Lance of Okla.; parents, Charley and Margarite, of Okla.; one sister,
Joy of Texas; one brother, Jimmy of Okla.
Funeral services were held, Decembeer 26, 1998 in the Roberts Funeral Home
Chapel in Westville with Bro. Richard PICKUP of Salina, officiating. Interment
followed at the Old Green Cemetery in Westville.
MURPHY
Funeral services for Archie MURPHY, 85, of Tahlequah, were held December
26, 1998 at the First United Indian Methodist Church in Stilwell with Rev.
Grover JAMES officiating. Burial followed in the Flute Springs Cemetery.
Arch MURPHY, son of Ned and Wachene PETTIT MURPHY, was born February 14,
1913 at Bunch, and died December 22, 1998 in Tahlequah. Arch worked for the
City of Tulsa. After retirement he lived in Stilwell and later moved to
Tahlequah. He was a member of the First United Indian Methodist Church in
Stilwell.
He was married to Bessie HUGHES MURPHY in 1936 and she preceded him in death
February of 1977.
Besides his parents and wife, one sister, Lizzie DIRTSELLER, and three
grandchildren also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two sons, Haskell and James D., both of Okla.; four daughters,
Marie, Margaret and Jessie, all of Okla., and Bessie Sue of Kansas; 28
grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
HALE
Mary Lea GRAYSON-HALE, daughter of James GRAYSON and Lula COLE GRAYSON was
born January 2, 1905 and departed this life December 23, 1998 at the Bartlesville
Care Center, at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 20 days.
Mary was married to Barney HALE and to this union were born five children:
James, Phyllis, Ted, Robert and Madge. She was a member of the Epworth Methodist
church in Tulsa.
She is preceded in death by both parents, husband Barney and one son,
Robert.
She is survived by: two sons, James and Ted, both of Calif.; and two daughters,
Phyllis and Madge, both of Okla.
Funeral services were held December 28, 1998 at the Stilwell City Cemetery
with Minister Tom LOUDEN of Bartlesville officiating under the direction
of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Stilwell.
GIRDNER
Nevell Lee GIRDNER, Jr., son of Nevell GIRDNER and Nora COOK GIRDNER was
born October 14, 1968 in Stilwell, and departed this life, December 25, 1998
at Hillcrest Medical Center, at the age of 30 years, 2 months and 10 days.
Nevell was married to Pam SMITH on October 9, 1987 in Welling and to this
union were born three children: Dustin, Bryan and Lisa. He was a horse jocky
for over thirteen years.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lee and Pauline COOK,
two brothers, Steve and Britten GIRDNER.
He is survived by: his wife, Pam of the home; two sons, Dustin, and Bryan;
one daughter, Lisa, all of the home; parents, Nevell and Nora; three brothers,
Brad, Clint and Randy; paternal grandparents, Leroy and Dorothy; two nephews,
Britten and Christopher; and one niece, Brittany, all of Okla.
Funeral services were held December 29, 1998 at the Barber Baptist Church
with Rev. Charles DUVALL officiating. Interment followed at the Hungry Mountain
Cemetery.
HOLLOWAY
George Eugene HOLLOWAY, son of William and Julian MCLEMORE HOLLOWAY, was
born September 17, 1917 at Lyons Switch, and departed this life December
5, 1998 at Saint Francis Hospital, at the age of 81 years.
George was married to Idell TISHER in 1947. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy, and a resident of Tahlequah for the past 26 years.
He is survived by his wife, Idell, of the home; two sons, Billy of Ark.,
and Robert of Okla.; one daughter, Brenda, of Okla.; two brothers, Barney
and Kenneth, both of Okla.; six sisters, Imogene, Christine and Dorothy,
all of Okla., Virginia of Neb., Vera of Ark., and Modena of Ga.; eight
grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
WILKIE
Graveside services for Ruth Oilton WILKIE were held December 27, 1998 at
the Alberty Cemetery in Westville with Rev. Audie VAUGHT, Bro. Lester WILHITE
and Bro. Jeff MORRIS officiating. Services were under the direction of Hart
Funeral Home of Westville.
Ruth Oilton WILKIE was born March 3, 1915 to George and Edna HAVENS. She
was the first baby born in Oilton in a tent beside her father's blacksmith
shop. She departed this life December 24, 1998 at the age of 83 years, 9
months and 21 days. Ruth was married to George W. WILKIE in 1932. She was
of the Holiness faith.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, George and Edna; her husband,
George; an infant son; two brothers and one sister.
Ruth is survived by; two sons, Bud and David, both of Okla.; two daughters,
Loretta of Ark., and Virginia of Okla.; seven grandchildren, and eleven great
grandchildren.
