Walker Edgar Rodgers, son of William Kennedy Rodgers and Elizabeth Rodgers, was born in Piqua, OH, October 10, 1840, died at his home in Atoka, Thursday morning, Sept. 2, 1920, lacking just a few weeks of being 80 years of age. Mr. Rodgers was one of the old residents of this part of the country, having settled at Stringtown in 1872. After a long residence at Stringtown, Mr. Rodgers removed to Tollabina. He has lived at Atoka since 1901.
Mr. Rodgers was engaged practically all of hi life in the lumber business, but for the past few years because of advancing age and ill health, he has been in retirement. He suffered much and endured with patience and Christian fortitude.
Mr. Rodgers was married at Stringtown in 1876 to Mrs. Fannie Rutherford Cline, who survives him. He also leaves two daughters; Mrs. M. E. Rosser of Muskogee and Miss Cora Rodgers of Atoka, a son; Mr. W. E. Rodgers, Jr. and a step-son, Mr. John Cline of Durnat, who has really been to him as a son, besides grandchildren and many friends.
Mr. Rodgers has been a member of the Presbyterian Church for 35 years, having united first with the congregation at Stringtown.
Funeral services were held at the residence at Atoka on Friday after September 3rd and were conducted by Rev. O. B. Irelan. Interment was in the local Cemetery.
