Trails of Tears

"The Trail of Tears" is a term used for removal of Native Americans from their homelands to Indian (and, later, Oklahoma) Territory, but it includes many different physical routes.  This worksheet is a place to accumulate links to additional information, in an effort to paint an overall picture of removal as it related to old roads, but I recommend checking the individual ITGenWeb sites for more information about specific Nations/Tribes

Cherokee

Chickasaw

Choctaw

Creek

Seminole  So far, Tampa Bay is the only departure point I have found but apparently a number of minor trails led to it.  The first leg of the journey was by boat across the Gulf of Mexico to New Orleans. Then the journey continued by land along a Military Road that roughly paralleled the Mississippi River.

Thanks for stopping by!
